My latest subscription/repeat delivery canned food arrived with 5 badly damaged cans. Online it says go to local store. Friday 22 august I go to cashier Eva and say I'd like to replace the 5 damaged cans. Ok she says. When she tries to sort it on the petco POS system, doesn't work. Manager (julie I think) said store has no access to my online purchases (what would walmart/walgreens/kroger etc etc say about that??) and that if I return without the receipt, after 3x I will be blocked from ever returning again (wow customer friendly?). Eva still could not process the return and replacement. 2nd manager chris tried to help. I brought up my online purchase on my phone - same account name and number for online and store by the by. Chris entered order number, then more problems, more of my time wasted. I'd been at the store for 30 minutes trying to do the return and replacement of damaged items sent to me by petco (of their petco brand whole hearted). I suggested that they give me the 5 replacement cans and do the fiddling with their system afterwards as I had to leave because I had another appointment. Chris said no - that would get him in trouble....that officially means that customers should be inconvenienced rather than an employee get into trouble (for helping a customer)???? Eventually chris and eva got it sorted but did not think I had a right to be upset about spending over 30 minutes at the store. Neither ever said 'sorry you were shipped damaged product', or 'sorry for taking up so much your time', or 'thank you for being a great customer with regular recurring subscriptions for petco branded canned dog food'. Eva then 'disdainfully 2 fingeredly' handed me the receipt as she was turning her back on me. Chris just starred at me. I told eva that was very disrespectful and upset that chris thought her disrespectful attitude was ok. I will email this to petco customer service, and maybe head of marketing, to find out if this is the way they want their regular customers treated. Make of this review as you will, the net is that they don't value customer loyalty, so customers should suit themselves at all times, because being disrespected is not the value that makes me want to spend more money. Steer clear and do NOT get your pet groomed here. Not only did their groomers rip out huge chunks of our dog's top and main coat (down to the skin!) and try to blame it on her harness, but they also were so unhygienic that she came home with fleas as well. Unless you want a $180 vet bill and to wash your pup in flea shampoo, don't ever go here. Disgusting. Would give 0 stars if it was possible. read more

I think this is wonderful place. I haven't done a lot of shopping here for my cat, but I've enjoyed wandering around this nice store while my partner gets supplies for his birdies. He introduced me to Petco, and I became especially glad that he did when I searched all over town for Arm & Hammer Absorbex cat litter. I had tried two of the other Arm & Hammer varieties of clumping cat litter, and I did not like them (too easy to leave the box along with the cat! Not a happy experience if the cat gets into my bed!) But I liked Absorbex very much, and the manufacturer kindly gave me $60 worth of replacement coupons. The trouble was finding a place that carried sufficient volumes of litter for me to be able to use the coupons fully. I called all over town (B'ham is small, after all!) And one of my last calls was to Petco. Not only do they carry my preferred litter, but they had the size I needed! Po-ou was true to his word, saving their last box for me, along with instructions on how to follow-up if needed. When I went in, I was helped by Kim who was wonderful. The staff were so helpful, good-humored and just terrific. And at the end of my saga, I was rewarded with an amazing sight: A huge metal container filled with giant Lamb Chop stuffed toys--and I do mean giant!--at a steal of a price. Having fantasized that my mom named me for Shari Lewis, I had to indulge, and Lambie is now happily ensconced in my home. What a great store! read more

They communicated really well. Employees were kind and you could tell they love animals. My dogs cut looks amazing and he smells great!

We have a super nervous chipoo who we brought in for some grooming. Everyone was super nice and Amanda (who was her groomer) was really thoughtful about what she needed to be comfortable. They held off on the drying process because they could see it would be really scary for her. We're so grateful for how thoughtful everyone was towards her! read more

Took my reluctant dog to get his nails trimmed. They did a fantastic job with him. My vet said they'd only trim his nails if I sedated him first. So glad I took him here! Am so relieved! read more

The number one reason I would recommend this Petco is that their employees have heart! We have gone here over the years but for the past few, we have had our dog food on repeat delivery with Petco. Owning 3 large dogs, it is super convenient to have the massive bag show up on our doorstep just as we are finishing off a bag. Happy dogs, happy us. Unfortunately the dogs are now sick and my concern was the food that they were eating. I brought the bag we just received at home in to the store where I was greeted by Sue. She listened to my concerns and asked questions about my dogs. She let me me know that she and the other employees would be happy to answer any questions. She made several recommendations and I ended up choosing a new food For my dogs. They took my new unopened bag and refunded it simply because I no longer had confidence in the food. One of our dogs is 15 plus years old and she understood my not wanting to take any chances. Even though the food might not have been to blame, Sue did not hesitate to take the food back. As a customer, I appreciate this excellent customer service by Sue and the rest of the crew at Petco. So far the dogs are doing better and Hopefully we will be back in soon for that giant bag! Very uneducated and discriminating employee. Employee at the cashier asked me to wear a mask next time I come into the store. I told her I have a medical exemption. She said no exemptions exist. Seconds later she was asking to see my medical card. I told her per my doctor I don't have to show it to her. Then she starting pressing me to find out what kind of medical issues I had. Like are you serious?! Then she went on about how she has severe asthma and wears a mask 8 hours a day. CDC site still has a section for "exemptions" so don't know where that lady got info about no exemptions. She might be on the wrong CDC website. I'm taking my business elsewhere Petco. read more

Never any staff to help. You ask about products and you get minimum response or help. No professional assistance available. They say they have it in stock and point you in the direction and the whole shelf is empty, do they not know of their own products? And if they have it or not. The woman there named Brianna was blatantly homophobic to my partner and I. She refused to respect my partners pronouns, and when we held hands once while walking around the store she told us to be respectful to others in the store by keeping our PDA to a minimum. She interrupt us mid-sentence on multiple occasions, raised her voice and spoke to us like we were idiots. God forbid she is ever in a position of leadership, because any store that leads by her example is sure to fail. it's Thursday now and management still hasn't called me back about my horrible, humiliating experience on Sunday. I ordered 3 items online, 2 to pick up in store & 1 to be delivered. so I go in early Sunday & have to stand in line while the female cashier chats endlessly with thx customers ahead of me. ok that's fine, I have a counter to lean on at least. then my turn, I hand my license over and say I'm there for pickup. she gigglea & holds up her handheld thing and says she's not logged in, go stand by the doors & she'll call over someone to help me. no one was in line behind me. so I stand and wait and wait. as I start to put away my license & wallet, she walks over - hadn't helped another customer, just I guess I wasn't important enough to be helped. she confirms my name & I point to the cart with my 2 bags of litter and say that's it. she confirms on her handheld & asks if I'd like help out. if anyone else has arthritis in most of their joints, including knees & lower back, maybe you'd understand how standing there for so long hurt and I just wanted to go. so I say no and head out to my car. it's pouring rain out. I open my trunk & plunk the two bags into my car & right then this cashier & a large male are standing right there telling me I can't take the items. there's a problem with your card. but I say the shipped item was already sent out, are you sure. yes it says card failed. I can't let you have stuff for free. I say fime, take them. the male seems like some sort of enforce. I asked her why should couldn't have checked this while we were still inside. she repeats I can't have free stuff. I said you could run my card again, or I have cash?!?! sgd waves me off, walking away saying it's all electronic. what?! so as I'm leaving to go to petsmart, I call customer service and explain to the woman on the line. she assures me that yes my other item From Thd Same Order has shipped. she takes my info and says management will call back. again, today is Thursday and still no call. well, the kicker is, that after thd whole charge was pending for a day or two, and new, bogus charge was put through on my account for $43.60, I think it was. the item that was shipped, and I received, was $31.38 plus tax. so I get on to petco's chat and she keeps giving me excuse after excuse, making up different reasons including, this is the charge for the 2 items I was basically accused of trying to steal. and now they're stealing from me!! she offered me coupons-not an offer to make it right asap but coupons!!! after a decade of being a loyal customer, I'm accused of trying to steal, humiliated, stolen from & I had to drive to another store & try to find these same items. management still hasn't called me. the wrong charge is sti on my account. I will never return. if you have a disability, do not go to this store. they will not deliver to you car anymore and apparently it's too hard to have them pack your items into a cart so all you have to do is manage to wrangle it into your car. if you have had a stroke, or other mobility issues, do not go to this store because, rather than treat you like a customer and having you stand at the counter while they complete assisting you, they will leave you to struggle to stand in the entryway under fluorescent lights which, again if you've had a stroke, you will understand the disorienting feeling of a growing migraine under those lights coupled with trying to stand unassisted all wrapped up in joint pain getting increasingly worse. and then and only then will 2 people show up to call you a thief. petsmart, Costco or Amazon from now on. never ever again petco read more

A year and a half ago I bought a hermit crab from Petsmart. She is healthy and thriving to this day. 2 weeks ago I decided to buy 2 more friends for her. I went to Petco because it is closer to my house and tends to be a little less expensive. I bought a large crab and a small crab. After I got home, the large crab was incredibly lethargic and never moved from it's spot. About a week after purchasing it, it died, covered in mites. My tank is very clean with all new substrate, and the other two crabs were clean of mites as well so I have reason to believe that it brought mites from Petco's tank. Since that crab brought bugs into my tank, it was visible that at least half of the substrate was contaminated, so I boiled all of the toys and baked all of the substrate to start fresh. So exactly 1 week after purchasing the big crab, I returned it and exchanged it for 2 small, fancy crabs. Less than a week after that purchase, a fancy crab died. SO I RETURNED ANOTHER DEAD CRAB and exchanged it for one more fancy crab. At this point I was pretty disappointed with the circumstances. If I can keep a crab alive for almost two years now, then how are all of these new ones dying?! I took the new fancy crab home, mind you this was the 5TH CRAB that I have bought in 2 weeks. It died the next day. I understand that these are fragile animals, but that shouldn't be the same excuse that I keep getting from the employees. Something isn't right. **When I went back to exchange the first crab, I noticed that their food dish was caked and moldy around the edges-- this is where mites come from. I could see mites crawling in the substrate. Then when I returned one of the fancy crabs, I noticed broken off limbs strewn about the substrate. These crabs are not healthy. I am not writing this review to complain about 3/5 crabs dying in 2 weeks, but to bring attention to their lack of safety and care for their hermit crabs. I know they are not as exciting as a lizard or a gerbil, but they are still animals, not to mention inventory. I would expect these animals to be housed in better conditions than at home to set an example for how their habitats should look. I would expect employees to know better than to drop them into a little pile when sorting the housed shells from the empty shells. They are fragile, that's why they live in shells. Don't get me wrong, the people I talked to were very nice and seemingly knowledgeable about hermit crabs-- but when the only answer for them continually dying is "they're just sensitive animals", I am going to be frustrated. read more

The groomers are good grooming dog they're friendly the problem I had with this store is I tried to write a check and they say they take checks but really all they do is rent through machine and the Machine determines if the checks good or not well obviously it doesn't f****** work are we going to hold my three dogs hostages until I paid some other form of payment. So I would not take any dogs there they don't care about your pet. And I would have been you know fine but the manager she's an old grumpy b****. We took our very senior lab for a bath and a nail clipping. He has a difficult time getting around, especially getting in and out of the bathtub. His Groomer Madison took such great care with him and was able to accommodate him to make it easier for him. She did an amazing job. Madison is excellent at what she does. She also has a special sense about her when it comes to dogs. 5 Stars definitely for Madison. read more

I was here today to get dog food and look at fish stuff. A young man named Jake asked me if I needed help so I told him I just bought a one gallon tank and will be getting a beta . He was so polite and went through showing me what to get to prepare my tank. I was quite impressed with his professionalism and another reason to keep patronizing Petco. We called this store in advance and asked if they had Kaytee orange honey blossom treats available.. after checking they did, so we had them put 4 jars aside for pick-up. When we arrived yesterday they were waiting for us at check-out...and the sales person was a very nice lady (believe her name was Sue) asked us if we wanted to sign up for Petco rewards, which we did as we often are in Bellingham. After she 'signed' us in, she advised that we just had to complete the profile online with our established Pal's Rewards Number: 461041386. Now comes the dilemma, we are from Canada (Vancouver, BC) (which she was aware of) - but we are unable to complete the profile online as it seems that it is only available to residents of USA. ...so much for that....... read more

I purchased everything that I needed, and there was many little animals and fish , I want to buy them all but my fiancé says that might not be a great choice haha. The only thing that I could potentially point out is that we had to wait for at least 10 minutes and there was no one else there, not even at the registers for a while. Scheduled my dog for a wash and "deshed" appt and that was pretty easy online. I normally take him to a smaller business or my local groomer but they were fully hooked until jan 2022! So, I though if try a chain co to groom him, quoted online for wash $60 + $40 d-shed. When I picked him up I almost had a heart attack with the final service charges! They tacked on a "brush" fee of another $40 totally almost $200! he is a big boy and they spent another hour or so, but I've never spent that much on a single wash on him! i picked him up late but the whole appt probably only lasted 3hrs which is the same amount of work time that my local groomers do for at most $120. Then the manager had the nerve to tell me "well you should consider staying with your regular groomer"! Yah ok thanks "Sue". DO NOT WASTE BRING YOUR DOG here for grooming! They will up charge you with extra fees they specially if you have a double coated pup. This was my first time for a groom appt and we never coming back! Not even for food and toys! While I try to shop local most times, when moneys tight I go to Petco. My cat and dog eat Science Diet, and they have a rewards program when you buy 10 bags you get a free one. Midwinter I take my pom-mix to city dogs grooming because Petco doesn't have a "middle ground" cut, it's a trim or shave. My dog is pretty squirrely (the cat beats him up sometimes :)) and came from an abusive home before ours, but he always comes home happy after his "summer cut" and doesn't seem scared or nervous afterwards. It's true that they may not give the most precise cuts, but I'm not picky as long as he looks blended (poms have ridiculously thick undercoats and quite difficult to cut around the ears and tail). The girls that work there are really nice, run on time and never left me nervous about leaving my fur child in there hands. read more

I just moved here, so I am comparing this Petco to the one I used to live near. I thought they would be virtually the same because they have a corporate parent to answer to. But, I will not go back to this one in Bellingham. I had my daughter with me last week and I had to hold her the entire time we were in the store because crickets were jumping around everywhere and scaring her. The entire store seemed like it hadn't been cleaned in a very long time. We went to look at the fish in the aquariums and half of the tanks were covered in algae. I also noticed a dead hermit crab. Bottom line - I was grossed out. And I have found better prices on premium dog food at the local co-op. read more

Terrible grooming department! I recently moved to Bellingham and have been bringing my dogs to Petco for nail trims. One of my dogs is squirmy and has long quicks. However, previous groomers have handled him with care and have only rarely cut a quick. Yesterday, the groomer cut a quick on the first paw. Of course that made my dog squirm more. Then when she went to the second paw, she cut another one. At this point, my poor dog really started to squirm and resist. Another staff member walked by and offered assistance but she said "no I got it". She proceeded to the third paw and by this time, he was fighting her. She cut a third quick and he yelped. At that point, I told her to call it good. She finished all but one dew claw. I received an online survey today regarding the service. I was honest about the bad experience my dog endured. When asked what they could do better, I recommended that the groomer should have accepted assistance from her coworker to prevent my dog from being hurt. I provided my name and number and this evening received a voicemail from the grooming salon manager telling me that based on my survey comments, it would be best if I found another place to get their nails trimmed! I am shocked that instead of using this as an opportunity for improvement they told me to take a hike! I will definitely not step a foot in that store again. read more

Spending hundreds and spoiling my only child... * my dog Duke* Petco is the one place that price matched competators and always had the best deals! Not just that but I found that they were helpful and people who loved their pets. They take back just about anything and provide amazing customer service. I vowed to buy only from Petco after three amazing trips and this great lady who works there.. she has long dark hair and really pretty.. I always see her and she is super super helpful! I visited this petco on vacation with my hamster Taco. He had a bad case of the stomach grumbles so I was wondering if anyone could help. I was approached by a employee .. i forget her name but she had the most lovely purple hair. Well she knew exactly how to help.. we went the the hamster section when suddenly Taco stomach issues came to a head.. and he started making stool everywhere.. well this girl saved my new white pants by catching his poop with her BARE HANDS. I screamed and accidentally dropped taco but this girl has the reflexes of a ninja and caught him out of the air.. not a hair harmed on his head. We got we needed and left.. still in awe of that employee.. Amazing Service.. Amazing attitude.. Amazing person. read more

I used to have a baby bearded dragon and would have to pick up crickets quite frequently, and they'would rarely be fresh or fed a proper diet so that the lizards get calcium and other vitamins. and when I asked for a fresh batch they always look at me like I insulted them. read more

My 2 roommates and I came in to get a cat. We asked the associate where the cats were, and she directed us to a corner of the store. One problem, there were no cats!
