By Golly's used to be the place where you left wondering if you'd just pulled off a heist...huge portions, real flavor, actual value. Now it feels like the new management has flipped the model to: charge more, deliver less, hope nobody notices. We noticed. Prices are premium, but the experience is bargain-bin. One overworked employee juggling the entire floor on a half-full Sunday isn't service...it's triage. And the food? Bacon so undercooked it practically squeals, burgers and buns burnt like they lost a bet, and somewhere under the carbon you can taste what used to be a pretty good patty. If you eat in, they have those fancy new platters for improved presentation...I'd rather have good food than a sexy plate. The milkshake is the real magic trick...almost $7 for a "large" that's one-third whipped cream, two-thirds regret (looked like 8-10 ounces of shake). Across the street, you get about 3X more, better, faster, and cheaper. That's not competition...that's a tutorial. To-go order? No napkins, no utensils. Fast food places get that right...and for a third of the price. But hey, nice paper boxes. Really elevates the disappointment. At this point, it's not a restaurant with a bar...it's a bar where food is an afterthought. Fancier plates, sure, but that's lipstick on a burger that used to matter. They might be making money for now, (although I've not seen the Milford parking lot packed since the old management) but this is how places lose the room...families fade out, regulars disappear (except for the bargain beer drinkers...heck I may come for $3 Miller Lites in March, but I'll eat elsewhere), and suddenly "pretty good" becomes "why are we here?" I wondered by their reviews have tanked. It didn't used to be like this. That's a problem...and yet with all the locations it's as if they think they're worthy of franchising. I could go to a big chain, buy a much better couple of burgers, fries and a shake and afford new platters and still get a better meal and reusable utensils and plates, for much less. I give em 2 years. What private equity firm would even look at such a mediocre product. I used to be one of their biggest fans. :-( In accordance with Yelp standards, no specific competitors were mentioned in this review. Only the general state of the competitive market.

A Very Disappointing Experience at By Golly's Bar & Grill in Milford…read more I had a very disappointing dining experience at By Golly's Bar & Grill in Milford. After we ordered our drinks and spent about 25 minutes looking over the menu, we were finally informed that the restaurant was out of French fries, chicken tenders, and several other sides and menu items. By that point, we had already been waiting and were disappointed to learn how limited the menu actually was. We ended up ordering hamburgers, which unfortunately were overcooked, and there were very few options available to accompany them. My biggest frustration was that we were not informed about the extensive shortages until well after we had been seated, ordered drinks, and spent considerable time reviewing the menu. In my opinion, customers should be made aware of major menu shortages when they are seated or given the menu, rather than discovering them after ordering. I hope the owner and management take this feedback seriously. A simple notice at the entrance or a clear explanation when customers are seated would have saved us a lot of time and frustration. Based on this experience, I won't be returning. I hope the restaurant can address these issues so future customers have a better experience.

At the time there was a man playing acoustic guitar. I noticed that the view from the back was the East Fork Miami River. Very pretty. They have plenty of seating outdoors. Inside is open and spacious. Open that there is no air. They serve coffee and lunch. At night they open up for dinner and libations. Their menu is basic pub and grub. I was interested in the pizza because they mentioned wood fired. We ordered: Drinks: Pinot noir Braxton Ballpark Beer Food: Burbage burger w/ fries Margherita pizza We got our meals less than 15 minutes. I tried my fiancées burger and it was super delish. Loved the seasoned coated fries. For the record, the pizza is not wood fired, but still good. You can either get it artisan, hand tossed or cauliflower. I opted for artisan. A little thick for me but I still enjoyed it. The service was great and for the alcohol pricing, very reasonable. Great place to hang out with friends and enjoy the outdoors. Nice experience and I can see myself trying other items from the menu.

We ordered the Coconut Shrimp and a beer for my husband and Enchiladas Verdes for me. My grandson ordered the kids pizza. The complimentary salsa and chips were ok but likely just jarred salsa. My husband said his coconut shrimp wasn't bad but it wasn't great. He said he could tell it was frozen prepared coconut shrimp. My enchiladas verdes weren't good at all. Unseasoned meat in tortillas that had lukewarm, canned sauce poured over it. I could taste the metallic taste of the tinned sauce. It was the strongest flavor. And boxed rice. My grandson liked his pizza and fries. We won't be back. There is a better Mexican restaurant just a couple blocks away.

Bite has been on my husband's list for awhile because he's all about local small businesses. Any who, here is what we ordered.. Blue crab smothered fries 7/10 - So I don't know if they used fresh blue crab or in a tin, but nonetheless this was fairly good. Quite an innovative plate I would say.. I didn't know what to expect, maybe something more like a poutine...? The flavor of the blue crab and shrimp were seasoned very nicely. My only two recommendation would be... 1) they should make their fries fresh in-house - I could tell these were frozen fries and then 2) I would have like to see the "smothered" cheese/sauce be thicker because it was quite watery. Chicken alla vodka 6/10 - The crispy chicken cutlet was very good! Probably the best part of the dish. As for the vodka sauce - I thought that this was just okay and possibly its just my taste preference. There was a heavy taste of possibly too much cream? Or maybe even sour cream? I can't put my finger on it.. I don't know if it's me (it probably is), but I tasted even a hint of mustard...? Anywho... this dish was okay, the chicken really saved it for me. I recommend that they should do grated pecorino vs slices only because the cheese would be even distributed throughout the dish. The vodka pasta tasted better the next day as a leftover because I put a ton of parmesan cheese. Blueberry maple salmon 9/10 - My husband ordered this dish and I would agree that this dish was the winner of the night. Another innovative dish for a quaint local establishment. The salmon had a real nice crisp, cooked perfectly to medium, and there was a really nice smokey taste to the salmon. Overall a good dining experience - definitely small recommendations on a couple of the things we ordered on execution, but nonetheless we'd come back here to support.

A Culinary Crime Against Fried Chicken…read more I've had bad meals. I've had disappointing meals. And then there's this place, which somehow managed to turn fried chicken into a personal insult. Let's start with the chicken. Dry, flavorless, and apparently seasoned with nothing more than the hopes and dreams of whoever forgot how to cook. Not salt. Not pepper. Not even a passing acquaintance with either. I've had cardboard with more personality, and I'm fairly certain a paper towel would have been juicier. Fried chicken is not complicated. Season it, bread it, fry it. Somehow, this kitchen managed to skip the first step and ruin the other two. If someone brought this chicken to a backyard cookout, they'd be permanently banned from cooking for the family. The neighborhood would gather, an investigation would begin, and the cook would be tried for crimes against poultry. They'd be burned at the stake, and somehow, after all that fire and smoke, the chicken would STILL lack seasoning. The service? Equally impressive, but for all the wrong reasons. Rude, short, and completely devoid of personality. I've had warmer interactions with automated customer service recordings. Apparently, hospitality here means making customers feel like an inconvenience for showing up and spending money. And the restaurant itself? Dark, dirty, and unclean. There's a difference between creating an atmosphere and simply neglecting to clean the place. This establishment seems determined to explore that distinction. The final verdict: Save your money. Save your gas. Save your patience. Save your taste buds. Go to McDonald's. At least there, the food has seasoning, the lights work, and nobody pretends they're delivering a fine dining experience. One star, because Yelp won't let me leave zero. What an absolute shitshow of a restaurant. I wouldn't recommend this place to someone I actively disliked.

Between the regular crowd and the event, parking in the main lot was a challenge. Fortunately, there is additional parking available across the street, which helped ease the situation. The venue itself is a great setting for a casual gathering. There are plenty of picnic tables, sand volleyball courts, pickleball courts, and a turf area for kids to run around or for guests to relax. It's a fun, energetic environment that works well for groups. Our group started to arrive a bit later than our reserved time, but we were surprised to find people already sitting and dining in our cabanas. Since these had been pre-booked and prepped for our party, it was inconvenient to ask the group to leave and then find a staff member to come over and wipe down the tables. While we recognize that we were running a little behind, we expected the cabanas to be monitored and held for our reservation. A staff member should have been assigned to oversee the area and ensure it remained ready for us. On a more positive note, the food was great and everything was ready and waiting when we arrived. The drinks were also solid, and we especially loved the variety of shakes! The staff was very accommodating when it came to packing up leftovers, providing takeout containers for all the extras without hesitation, which we really appreciated. Despite the small hiccup with the cabana seating, the evening was a success overall. With a bit more attention to managing reserved spaces, it would've been flawless. We'd definitely consider coming back for another group event or a casual night out.
