I was repeatedly informed by "Fremont quick smog" that the completed smog check passed and will be automatically transmitted to the DMV. This year, 2025, DMV is requesting yet another smog check. I called DMV seven times today and spoke to 4 individuals (with 3 calls dropped). The 3rd individual said "uhh no you did your smog in 2023 and your vehicle requires a smog check every 3 years." I drive a 2016 SUV. Go elsewhere for a smog check. Massive headache, tremendous amount of time wasted, and money wasted. Totally not worth the potential trouble.

He walked me through what the process would involve and initially quoted just over $500. After I mentioned that was a bit outside my budget, he adjusted the price to $450 and explained clearly why he couldn't go lower given the labor involved. No pressure, just transparency. I dropped the car off at 8:15 AM and it was completed around 1 PM. When I returned, Perry again personally inspected the vehicle with me and showed me the results. The paint looks dramatically better -- smooth, uniform, and restored. The heavy spotting is gone and the finish has great clarity. What really impressed me was the integrity beyond the paint correction. Perry noticed uneven wear on my front right tire. Instead of trying to sell me new tires, he explained tire rotation intervals (about every 5,000 miles) and recommended simply swapping the rear right to the front right for now. Given that I replaced all four tires at the same time a few years ago, his recommendation made sense. They completed the swap in about 15 minutes for $39.99. No upselling. No scare tactics. Just practical advice. Overall, I left feeling that I was treated fairly, educated properly, and given honest service. That combination is rare. Highly recommend.

I was advised the issue would need to be fixed before it could pass. Something didn't sit right with me, so I sought a second opinion. I had the vehicle visually inspected by a knowledgeable friend and then took it to my regular smog technician. Neither could find the spacers that were supposedly present. My regular smog shop ran the vehicle through the machine and it passed immediately with no issues. In addition, I was uncomfortable with a comment made suggesting I should have a "husband" handle the situation for me. That felt unnecessary and unprofessional. I'm grateful I trusted my gut and got a second opinion, as it saved me a lot of stress and an unnecessary long drive. I recommend others do the same if something doesn't feel right.
