I needed a Star Smog check for my 2011 Honda Accord registration. Since I showed up on a busy day, I had to wait about 25 minutes behind a couple of other cars. To my surprise, my car actually failed the inspection! This was quite a shock because I had just taken it to an auto shop in Union City for maintenance beforehand (a whole other story). Brian, the technician who handled the smog check, explained that my air intake hose was cracked due to old age. Even though it failed and I paid for the service, Brian let me know I had 90 days to replace the part and return for a free retest. I got the hose replaced the very next day and brought the car right back. The second round was super fast, taking only 10 to 15 minutes, and Brian confirmed that it passed! I just had to pay an additional $8 CA fee. Overall, the service was incredibly fast, the customer service was fantastic, and the price was a super affordable $51 for the smog check. While prices might vary depending on your vehicle, that's an absolute steal for the Bay Area! read more

I've come here for the last few years and every visit has been the same quality of service, nothing short of excellent! Oftentimes, there's not much of a wait - maybe 15-20 minutes - for the whole service to be completed. When you arrive, just pull up if there is space or back up into a parking spot if they're currently full. Seek out the staff (typically I've seen one individual managing the operation but this most recent visit, I was greeted and helped by a team of two) and leave your keys with them for them to conduct the test. They'll look up your documentation via the vehicle identification number on your vehicle and send the results directly to the DMV for processing. They make the whole process really simple! There's a waiting area with a few seats and some outdated magazines but you'll likely not need them as the wait isn't long at all. Once completed, you'll be prompted to complete any paperwork and payment (credit card and cash accepted). The location is great for midday errands or lunch breaks as it's close to a lot of great eateries just blocks away. There are also a few back roads that can be taken in case there's traffic or construction on the main roads. What I appreciated more is that he didn't mansplain it which was great!!! He then referred me to an auto shop here in Fremont and also told me what to do after the car was fixed. I told him I was going to forget so he wrote it down for me which i appreciated. I honestly forgot how much I was charged but I can remember it was not expensive.
