Great place to come for a friendly ambiance, social time with friends, and enjoying flowing drinks! It's okay for the food. I'm not much of a drinker so I have to review more of the food versus the rest of it. Like I said the atmosphere is great! Tons of sports playing on the televisions and there's always a fun neighborhood vibe here. Service has always been friendly and attentive. Food is okay. They have quite the menu but it really is just bar food and when it comes down to it it's pretty medium quality. And that's okay! That's how they work here. It's really easy to access as well considering most of the other food joints in Mount Lookout square can be kind of fancy and require reservations and what not. A Monday after the Bengals opener so the service was a tad slow, but still friendly. The smoked wings were scrumptious and the sauce presentation (6 sauces at the table to sample and mix!) The patty melt was salty, tangy and the Texas toast was crispy and buttery. Fish sandwich- flaky, fresh and loaded with sauce. A must- order: the onion rings! Decided on Mt. Lookout Tavern when we discovered the restaurant we were planning on visiting was closed. We ordered the bbq burger, and breakfast style burger. Both ordered without bacon. Bugers were ordered medium rare. Both came out well done. They still were flavorful. Yolk on the burger was perfectly runny. Unique french fries. Fries are kind of like a steak fry. Unlike a steak fry, there is a v shape cut out of them. This adds more surface area, and makes them have even more crisp edges. I would come here again just for these fries. My husband also wanted onion rings, so we got an order of those. The ranch from the onion rings went well with the fries. Onion rings were good too. They had a crunchy outside, and soft onion inside. They were textbook onion ring. True to their name, they are a full tavern. Beers and ciders on draft and in can/bottles. There is also a full bar. Various drink specials are posted around the bar and door. The bartender was planning double duty as server and bartender. He still managed to look in on us. read more

We had a hankering for a hamburger and have been wanted to check out Mt Lookout Tavern. What a great neighborhood bar and grill! I got a basic cheeseburger and it was great - juicy, flavorful and perfectly cooked. The fries were exceptional with a great crisp on the outside. Hubby got the fish sandwich which he liked a lot - it had a "nice crunch on the outside, flaky on the inside" and the "the tomato slice is great - amazing for this time of year". There were plenty of tables and a bar inside, and another bar and big patio with tables in the back. We chose the patio. We were there midday so there was no crowd and service was prompt and friendly. It was very casual and just what we wanted for a lunch in a tavern. We found street parking nearby which on a busy evening would probably be a challenge, but not an issue on a Saturday afternoon. read more

Their management decided to take Away a bunch of their tables for a DJ to play music During the NFL PLAYOFFS. Poor leadership. Bartenders are extremely rude and don't respect their customers. I have a lot of memories of Mt. Lookout Tavern from college, but none of them are centered around a dining experience. Back then it didn't seem like a good place to grab a bite, but the reinvented MLT has surprised me by offering really good bar food. The inside has changed a lot since those college days. There are more tables that I remember, though it does seem like the tables can now be moved out of the way for the late night bar scene. The bathrooms could use some work though, as those don't seem to be have been updated yet. For lunch I went with the Chicken Philly with sauteed banana peppers, onions, and mushrooms topped with melted provolone and mayo on a hoagie roll ($9.49). I was really surprised by the good quality of this sandwich, and it was very filling. I also had added a side of freshly prepared onion rings for $3. There is no kids menu to speak of, but our little ones were happy ordering from the appetizer menu. Two of their favorite items are at the top of the list, hot pretzel bites with MLT bier cheese ($6.49) and mini corn dogs with honey mustard ($5.99). Both were large servings and the kids had no complaints. My wife ordered a build your own quesadilla ($5.49 to start, veggie fillings $.50 each, meat $1.99 each). Nothing out of the ordinary here, but again another solid option for a decent price. On another visit I thoroughly enjoyed the buffalo chicken wrap ($8.99) and the loaded nachos that were enough for an entire family ($7.99, $2 to add chicken). MLT has been added to our neighborhood rotation of restaurants for a solid lunch or dinner. read more

I can mimic what others are saying re: a female bartender. If it's the same one we had, it was quite clear that she doesn't enjoy her job. Sadly, we felt like she hated us for no reason. We sat down at the bar around 9 on a Wednesday just to grab some cheap drinks for an hour or so. I asked for the specials and they had $4 wells and $3 domestics. I went with a Miller Lite and she acted like I was being a high maintenance cheap skate. Oh well. We took our time with our first round and then I went with a Strawberry Milk Stout that was listed on the wall. She came over with an opened Neapolitan Milk Stout and said, "I don't know why he wrote Strawberry Milk Stout." By that time, I didn't have the option to choose something else because she already opened it. It was tasty nonetheless. I then grabbed her for an order of fries and I actually felt really bad asking her because she obviously didn't want to serve us anymore but $5 later we got an order of fries that looks better than it tastes, unfortunately. After she left and the new male bartender started working, the service was much friendly. It was a tough hour and a half for us. read more

I had the worst possible experience at MT Lookout Tavern yesterday (September 23rd, 2023) I gave the bouncer my real ID to prove my age and he proceeded to bend it in half and claim it was fake. After trying to reason with him by showing him my business card, he still denied me entry. A few minutes later, his coworker came out checked my ID and let me in after I showed her my university alumni card. There was absolutely no reason for the bouncer to destroy my ID and it ruined my night. If you are the owner of this establishment, please consider firing the tall skinny blonde bouncer that worked last night. read more

The female bartenders will literally not serve you if you are a woman. The first time I came I stood for six minutes at the bar waiting for a drink and the bartender just stared at me and as soon as my guy friend came up she immediately served him then walked away. He had to ask her if she will serve me. The second time the same thing happened. He had to get my drinks for me all night. My friends and I often head up to Mt Lookout Tavern as we are walking distance on Linwood Avenue. It happens to always be the place we wind up at when we have no plans on weekends - which is most weekends. While the bar is better in the summer with more outdoor space to hangout in, they do have heaters and a cover for the colder winter months. "MLT's" is an awesome local watering hole to meet up with friends and always run into neighbors. The $1 jello shots are also a great addition ;) read more

LOVE this place. Recently renovated and now has the cutest exterior. I used to go after my weekly kickball league games for buckets of beer and appetizers. The fried Mac & cheese is the best I have ever had. I will go out of my way 10/10 times if I'm craving fried Mac and cheese. The ranch for the Mac is what I call "restaurant ranch"-- the runny, salty, delicious, homemade kind. You can also get legit white queso to dip them-- which is a game changer. MLT also has lots of other delicious food. The back patio is really cute and there is a second bar out there for when it gets crowded. I went here this past Friday with two friends to grab something quick to eat and enjoy a few drinks before heading out for the evening. I got the gourmet grilled cheese and we split an order of fries. Their fries were exceptional. The grilled cheese was pretty good too for the price. We had 2-3 beverages each and our bills were about $15 including the food and drinks, before tip. It wasn't the best meal I have ever had in my life but for bar food, it was pretty good! The only thing was, we were there at about 7 or so on a Friday and there was no music playing. The only music playing at that time was music that we played by paying for it ourselves so that was a bit of a damper on our expereicne. What can I say - the last time I was here was when I was 21 at UC and my friends took me to all of the staples in Mt.Lookout. Now I'm here with my youngest son after going to the Concours D'Elegance. We had a great time! Food was great - I had the "Hellboy" burger and a salad with Italian and a Great Lakes, my son had the chicken tenders with tavern fries with a Coca-Cola. Cheap drinks, friendly bartenders. I honestly never thought I would step foot in there, and when I did I was greeted with a very strong smell of vomit... Seriously. But somehow I made it to the bar, where they were serving up buckets of beer for $10. I am a fan of that. I also had mixed drinks later in the night. At $4, they were very strong. The jukebox has a good selection. Back to the bartenders- our friend decided he needed to "ice" our two other friends- and the bartenders devised a really funny way to do it, and were really fun the whole night. Waitress, one of many just standing behind the bar, said she just got there and had no clue what we were talking about although she was there the entire we were. When we asked if she could finally take our order she said "I'll go ahead and tell you right now food is taking a really long time to come out". We ended up leaving. For a restaurant 1/3rd full we couldn't for the life of us figure out why the service was so poor. I had family in town and am embarrassed now taking them here. Won't be returning.
