I love this shop. It's been on our list for awhile, and I'm so glad we finally got to check them out! We parked on the street and paid the meter - there were plenty of spots. The shop itself it's huge, but the selection is vast, and they make really good use of the space. Plus, it seems like they just celebrated their one-year anniversary - congrats to them! Besides the usual stationery store findings (notebooks, stickers, pens, stamps), there are quite a few things that make this shop unique. First, they have a lot of shop-specific swag. I came away with a Mt. Fo'rest sticker and pin, but they also had a cool tumbler that I was eyeing. Second, they have a pretty robust stamping station. Like, really robust. My son spent almost the entire visit stamping. They also gave him a free sticker sheet! They provide some paper, and I grabbed their business card and stamped the date on the back as well. They also have store stamps there, and plenty of them! And they have this stamp that you press down 3 times and each time it lays down a different layer of a design. It's really cool. They also have a pretty nice testing table with pens, paper, and the little tabletop rolly vacuum thing. Somewhat randomly, they also sell teas and matcha, including some mystery bags. Service is also really friendly. We spent so much time here and came out with some great swag. read more

Very cute and intimate stationary store featuring lots of Made in Japan products and niche artists! Their aesthetic is cozy kawaii mixed with sophisticated modern art that caters perfectly to my tastes, since I love cute things but I'm an adult hah... it reminds me of being at the various stationary stores in Japan, but sized down to a smaller space with very friendly staff. I really love what this business is doing and the niche it's tapped into. I also really appreciated the artist feature, and even bought some of their postcards since I love collecting art (affordably). It's such a nice tangible way to discover creative talent away from the digital space. I was in the Pasadena area and knew I had to stop by at Mt. Fo'rest! My friend had been raving about this stationary store since he visited during a stationary crawl and said this was his fave. It's a small, cozy shop with a plethora of different writing utensils, journals/note pads, and everything from stickers to stamps, to washi tape and everything in between! We came in on a Saturday afternoon and shop was filled with people inching around the store, but the staff were so friendly and kind to check-in on everyone and offer help and suggestions. I was surprised at how many different things could fit here. Every nook was purposefully used, and I could turn the corner and find binders or envelopes, or even matcha and teabags! They have a helpful guide on Instagram showing where to enter the store, with a helpful QR code posted outside near street parking. read more

I have been wanting to visit the store for about a month now, and today I finally made it there. It was everything I expected not a very huge store, but every little table has something wonderful. I had been wanting to purchase a TWSBI Root Beer and I couldn't believe that they had it so of course I bought it. The prices were spot on nothing was overpriced that I saw in the staff was extremely helpful and very friendly. I even spoke to another customer at the stamping table and she was very impressed that I had one of the original Midori Travelers Notebooks. I will be excited to go again real soon. read more

They carry notebooks, pens of all types, cute art, stamps, stickers, post its, stationary, and so much more. You will spend at least an hour browsing through everything. I picked up 2 notebooks, several erasable pens and highlighters, and washi tape. They have a section where you can try out all the different pens. A great store to pick up cute and functional items or give as a gift! Staff is super friendly and helpful and knowledgeable about their products. The biggest issue is the parking. Since the store has reduced and frequently changing hours, it becomes extremely crowded during the limited time it's open, making it very difficult to find parking and shop comfortably. The aisles feel packed, and the overall shopping experience is stressful because everyone is trying to shop at the same time. I also noticed many items were out of stock, which I understand can happen, but I really hope they reconsider extending or making their hours more consistent. It would make shopping much more convenient for everyone. read more

The workers at Mt. Fo'rest are super attentive and clearly know their stuff. They had a bingo event going on and it was a fun way to get to know the store as a first time visitor. I enjoyed sharing my journal with them and they gave me some suggestions on new supplies I could use. They had a decent variety of pens (frixion, sarasa, juice for example) as well as fountain pens that I'd consider trying out next time. Although prices can be a little up there, they're comparable to other stationery stores and not really surprising to me. I would say the only downside (and this isn't on them) is that it's limited to street parking and the main road is pretty busy, with the entrance being in the back of the building, so keep that it mind when you visit. read more

3.5 stars This store is tucked away between Peach Pl and Del Mar. This stationary store is small, but it carries quite a few sticker brands that I like. It doesn't really wow with a clutter of stuff like Kinokuya, but it's also not overly crowded and makes shopping a comfortable experience. Price point-wise, I'd say it is quite expensive with washi tape costing somewhere between $5-$10 per roll and stickers also being $5-8 per sheet. They got the famous hobonichis and other journals and plenty of pens to choose from. I bought their matcha, some 0.38mm & 0.50mm pens, and some stickers. You don't want to know how much I spent...trust me ;p (After trying the matcha, I can tell you that it is nice and smooth, not bitter. Idk if it's worth the price, but it was definitely a nice treat for me.) Overall, my experience was pleasant and I'd come back. read more

What a cute little shop! Stopped by today to check it out and it didn't disappoint. While the location is quite small, they make the most of the space they do have. Everything is displayed and organized perfectly well. The staff is extremely nice and welcoming. While they were extremely busy, they still make time to answer questions and point people in the right direction. I did love the selection that they have available. I was hoping that they had more writing journals. But I was informed that they will be restocking soon. They had an absolutely beautiful sailor fountain pen that I was fortunate enough to get as a gift for my husband. Loved this place! They had every pen you could think of, plus the cutest selection of stickers and washi tapes-truly a stationery lover's dream. The store itself is small but they're able to pack a lot of goodies inside. I really appreciated the community table where you can try out different pens and writing tools before buying. It did get a little crowded and overwhelming at times, but the crowd seemed to come in waves. Service was friendly and helpful, and prices felt pretty comparable to other stationery shops. I'll start with the cons first. I paid to park only to find free parking around back. You can't go in the door on Del Mar. You have to scan the code on the door to find out where to go. What if you don't have a phone? It was much smaller than I thought from the pics I'd seen. I bought a $10 roll of tiny stickers that I thought was washi tape that was wrapped up so I couldn't tell. I opened it when I got home and it wasn't what I thought. You can't pay cash. :-( It seemed like there was a private party taking place behind a curtain that was taking up half the store. The pros- the staff was super friendly and offered me a cookie when I walked in. There were lots of cute Japanese stamps. My purchase came in a cute little cloth drawstring bag. This past Saturday was International Stationery Store Day... I chose to begin my journey with Mt. Fo'rest! This is a new Stationery Shop that isn't usually open on the weekends, so I knew it would be busy due to the accessibility to all who couldn't make it there during the work week. If you like the Japanese artists' sticky pads, washi tape, stickers etc. You'll also find a great array of journal notebooks - I spotted my favorite Maruman and Leuchtturm1917 as well. Paint supplies are here too!! The staff are so gracious, and it was a hot day, and the lines were long to get inside, but they came out with water bottles and thanked us for our patience. This place is so lovely. Full of so many incredible fountain pens, inks, washi tape, journals, and more! I loved the wide variety of brands they had. They even had a lot of Traveler's Company items for sale, including inserts and various covers. They have a beautiful selection of Kakimori inks that were so hard to resist. I love that they had so many inks including Kakimori available in the fountain pens at the testing station for customers to try out. It was so fun to try out all of the different items and I ended up finding some lovely dual-sided Sailor brush pens to purchase! I hope they add chairs or stools to their testing station in the future because it was hurting my back and neck a little bit to try out the pens there. The prices are actually very fair and comparable to other stationery places/sites like Jetpens, which was a very pleasant surprise! Made me feel like I was getting a fair deal for my purchases. I also want to point out - when I came, it was such a hot day. They were quick to offer water and a little snack to us and their other customers which was so considerate. I'm not sure if those were just leftovers from their recent grand opening (congrats to them, btw!) but it was very much appreciated. Hot and new, Mt. Fo'rest is a new addition to the bustling local Pasadena makers scene. I love stationary and have eagerly been waiting to check it out after seeing it on social media. I parked conveniently through street parking, they also have a small backlot shared with neighboring businesses. The shop is small in size but large in the amount of stock and variety. I browsed through watercolor palettes, sketchbooks, bullet journals, pens, post-its, and seasonal cards. I loved seeing a section of local craft makers, including handmade wallets, bags, and scarfs. It's a wonderful collection that is so thoughtfully curated by the staff. I love how each staff was knowledgeable and eager to help me find the perfect stationary and even considered various aesthetics and leather binding. For the quality, these items are worth it all. After my recent trip to Japan, aka stationery Mecca, I'm so happy to discover this local stationery store and had a really nice experience. First off, I suggest not parking on Del Mar but going on De Lacey Ave to find their parking and entrance at the back. I came the day after the Christmas, so much of their stock was low due to Christmas purchases, however if that means this local store will continue to be open for awhile to come, then that is happy news for me. I was still able to find much of what I was looking for and a few items I wasn't. 10/10 for service as the employees were friendly and very helpful. I probably took up too much of their time as there were many others customers, but one particular employee was so patient with me as we talked through various pens and inks. I recognized many items and brands I had seen in Japan and felt like the prices were standard for what you would find from imports. When checking out they put my smaller items into a small canvas drawstring including a few branded stickers and a pack of Pocky. Overall I had a super great experience and will be returning soon! read more

As a self proclaimed stylophile / stationary junkie, I visited this location after coming across a reel on IG. I have to say I was a little disappointed. First of all, the parking situation was a little confusing. Apple Maps takes you to the store front but you actually enter through the back alley. Along the alley, there are parking signs for the various store. Good luck figuring it out. Upon entering the store, it was packed. It seemed like the shelves were empty but as I walked around, it was just the style and simplistic layout of the store. Very much the minimalist aesthetic. The did have an island with paper and pens to try. As mentioned, the store was packed and it was hard to get a space to test out some of the products. The thing that stood out to me the most of the pens were .38. Also, some of the pens unnecessarily pricey. All that said, I'm not the pen collector I thought I was and this store was a whole other level of enthusiast. I did see the $500 Sailor Moon pen on display. The cashiers were friendly and offered an opportunity to join their monthly drawing. read more

The pricing was fair and they had items at different price points for different budgets. I have the absolute best time at the stationary store. I've been getting into stationary supplies lately and it's nice to see that there is finally a spot in Pasadena that caters to the pen and paper community. The parking situation is a little bit confusing because the actual entrance to the store is in an alleyway on Peach Street, but the address is Del Mar. thankfully, there was a sign that directed me to go to peach Street so that I could find the main entrance. When you first walk in, you are greeted by the friendly staff, and they offer you a little snack. I was also offered water which I thought was very thoughtful. There is a station for you to check out stamps and you can even use them for your own journals. I thought that everything was reasonably priced, considering a lot of it is imported, and in comparison to other stores that I have been to. I loved that there was a little pink basket. You could put your supplies in while you go shopping. They have a whole section for Midori, and even an ample selection of fountain pen, inks. When I had questions about the products, they were very friendly and answered all of my questions. Also showed me some of the products and gave me some tips. Overall, it was such a great experience. I can't wait to see how the store grows as some of the products are limited. Definitely recommend if you need some stickers, want to check out some nice fountain pens, or need to restock on your Midori diaries. read more
