M's Pub used to be a go to place. We took a couple visiting from California, for dinner, Sunday night. I can't tell you how bad it was. Everything we had was the worst. How can you ruin a Rueben and Patty melt. Brie appetizer and a Dirty Bird martini, which should have been called a Pickle Juice Martini. We live in West Omaha so don't venture down to The Old Market much anymore. I had a business down there for 21 years. We probably dine out 4 night's a week. We know good dining. Really looked forward to enjoying their food. What a disappointment. Won't rush back. read more

If any place can survive - and even thrive - in the face of this competition, it's M's Pub. I came here half an hour before closing time, but it was still hopping. It seems that the locals have already figured out what I I've just found out tonight. And, here's the thing: I didn't get the burger the way I ordered it, but I still loved it. I wanted medium, and I got medium rare. But, I was hungry, so I decided to take a bite. Well, dang, Omaha certainly does know their beef, don't they? I normally wouldn't want a burger this pink, but this was really closer to a cut of steak, which I always get medium rare. The beef brisket soup was mind blowing. What did I just say about Omaha and beef? It was hearty, but at the same time seemed light, probably because of the quality of the meat. M's also made the rather bold decision not have fries or onion rings on the menu. I seriously had to stop and think about that for a moment to let it settle in. But, what they serve is so good that I don't miss them. The selection of local beers on tap is terrific, and the service was crisp and attentive. Even though I didn't get the burger the way I ordered it, everything was so good that I forgot about that by the time I finished it. I ate every last scrap in my order. M's pub I just finished up dinner here at M's Pub. It was overall not bad but not great. In the past I had gone there for dessert and dessert wine as a final stop for the night and that was fantastic. This time around.. Service: 2 out of 5 The service was pretty slow, and for some reason we had 2 different servers so it was a bit confusing. They didn't even fill up our water cups once and they were empty after about 10 minutes of being there. Food: - Appetizer: 5 out of 5 We got the seasonal Brussels sprouts dish. It had a sweet chili sauce and they were fried well. The flavor was very deep and delicious. They were cooked fantastic and the overall quality was really good. Entree: 1 out of 5 I got the Pasta from the light entree section. It was a fettuccine pasta with a basil pesto sauce and grilled tomatoes. The way it was written on the menu i thought the grilled tomatoes would be in the pasta but they were just a side component where it was 2 1/4 tomatoes one looked way over cooked the other looked like it sat on the grill just long enough to get the grill marks. Nothing flavorful there and I was disappointed they weren't in the pasta. The pasta was super bland. Didn't have much flavor at all. As a main entree I expected the basil pesto to have a much more flavorful pallet with a more full body. Dessert: 4 out of 5 I got the sour cream pound cake and it had amazing flavor. It was a large piece of pound cake with an amazing bourbon sauce. The pound cake itself was a more dense and velvety texture. The sauce almost had a caramel flavor to it but it was more complex. There was a bit of whipped cream at the top but not much. Overall it was really yummy but It was very rich. Had an unplanned lunch here, but definitely a good call! Amazing food, very accommodating staff, willing to make lots of adjustments to the order. GET THE LAHVOSH! My boyfriend hand I split the Sicilian (but replaced tomato with spinach) and it was really good. Warm, fresh crispy bread, very loaded with cheese! It cracked so perfect when I open and had a beautiful cheese pull! The toppings went really well there too, but I feel there were too many olives and not as much spinach; made the thing a bit salty overall. I took off the olives and it was amazing. 2 of my friends split the Santa Fe (with chicken instead if shrimp) and it looked loaded!very generous amounts of all the toppings. They loved it too. For my order I had the Blackened Shrimp Salad (with spinach and artichokes, no tomato and avocado - to cut out fat). This was BEAUTIFUL! The shrimp was so perfect, well seasoned seasoned. That mango jalapeno dressing was beyond amazing! Perfect amount of sweet and spicy balanced and it was just so good. The whole combination of the veggies and shrimp and dressing was really really good. It came with a black bean cake which took me by surprise. The cake with the dressing was just unexpectedly good! I could have used a little more of the veggies so I asked the server for extras and he gave me a plate full. Very appreciative of this. My boyfriend got the Steak salad and loved it. Steak was rey well cooked, and a good serving size. Most restaurants add a load of meat and not as many greens but it was the other way around here. He had quite a generous amount of vegetables to begin with because it came with a side salad too. The dressing here was nice and he actually wiped it all out. Not something I've seen before! The two friends got the falafel and the pasta and Very much enjoyed the food as well. The falafel was soft and not crispy like usual ones. But they actually like this. The flavoring was really good and it came with a proper fresh bread. I saw the pasta and it looked very appetizing. Good amount of pesto and quite fresh as well. I've been here a few times and normally really enjoy it but I think we just ordered the wrong thing this time... we started with the Brussels sprouts as a starter from the specials menu and they were amazing. We scarfed them down immediately and I forgot to take a photo until they were mostly gone. Portion was also very generous. The entrees is where it was lackluster. We got the pasta and falafel. The falafel was different than traditional Greek falafel but still super flavorful. I'd give it alone a 4/5. The pasta, however, was not flavorful. It was noodles with a hint of pesto. I'd give it a 1/5. The dessert was redeeming with the crème brûlée and sour cream pound cake. Crème brûlée was a 5/5 as normal. Sour cream pound cake was delicious, with my favorite part being the texture. It was very rich though so I wish they paired it with vanilla ice cream instead of whipped cream to try and mellow it out. For that, I'd give it 4/5. All in all, 1 bad dish isn't terrible and I'll still be back for dessert in the future, but what solidified this as a 3 star experience was the service. Our waters were never refilled and our server wasn't attentive at all. They were busy but that's been the same in all my visits thus far. To start things off, we got the warm artichoke and the curry aïoli paired perfectly! We shared the Thai lavash which was on the sweeter side, but we asked for spicy chili flakes, which added some much-needed heat. Next we ordered the surf and turf - steak was cooked medium as requested and the shrimp were very succulent and not overcooked. The vegetables were perfectly seasoned and steamed without being soggy. As much as we loved eating here, I took off a star, bc restaurants were supposed to be social distanced and at a lower capacity due to covid. This was not the case and we were jammed in there like sardines. Tables were completely filled up and capacity was at 100%. Service was good, but a bit slow as they were BUSY! We have been loyal M's Pub customers over many years but when we decided to dine at the bar last week, food and service were below our expectations. Very surprised and disappointed. Menu did not offer choices that have been available in the past and the options that were offered appealed to a limited group of people. The cocktails were marginal at best. Servers were polite but we needed to ask them for most everything verses checking with us occasionally? When our food arrived it was just okay with a higher price. We will not pick M's as a preferred stop and will not recommend it to friends looking for a unique place to dine or have a special night out as we have consistently done in the past. read more

Had the misfortune of dining at Ms over the weekend. I was underwhelmed to say the least. Rice did not absorb sauce- was it plastic rice? Based on the texture, possibly (scant serving of rice). Vegetables were majority onions with a few tiny slices of red pepper and giant tough green beans. Yuck I am not an onion fan - said nothing about that on the menu. Their best beef cut tasted like it had turned, and was overdone even though I asked for med-rare. Had a vinegar taste. I didn't send back so as not to upset my date. Never going back. read more

Must try: Thai Lahvosh and Mushroom Baked Dish! Why: What a unique menu in a neat restaurant in Old Market Omaha! The Thai Lavosh is an Armenian cracker with havarti cheese - reminds me of a thin flatbread. I loved the subtle taste of Thailand with the basil, peanut, cilantro, and Thai pepper sauce. It's actually quite filling! The Mushroom Baked Dish is broiled in garlic butter and havarti cheese - my mouth is watering as I write this! I savored each bite as the cheese melted in my mouth! Enjoyed a local beer that the waitress helped paired for my dinner, which was all-around wonderful! Notes: We did not have a reservation but only had to wait a few minutes to get seated for dinner on a weeknight. Workers were wearing masks and gloves. They sat us socially distant from the other parties, which the tables seemed spaced well. Every table had hand sanitizer also. This was my first dine-in experience in over 5 months but I felt safe. Let's start with a dirty wood table. The service was slow and substandard. Order one beer took forever to get. Table setup was missing forks. The one roll was hard and extra crusty and not edible. I'd only had one or two previous experiences here before the fire in 2016, but both were very good, so I'd been looking for a way to get back and my birthday was the perfect occasion. We made a reservation a few days out and they gave me a call a couple hours ahead to confirm, which I appreciated. Our table was ready for us. It looked exactly like I remembered it: classy, yet cozy. Lots of black and white with exposed brick, candles on the tables with overhead lighting dimmed to perfection. There was an energetic buzz about the place without being too loud. I felt very...content, better yet, fulfilled, sitting there with my family in the incredible atmosphere knowing we were going to be well taken care of and eat some delightful food. We started with two types of Lahvosh to share. Thai and Santa Fe (see pics for descriptions.) Both were wonderful but the Thai was the fan favorite. I ordered the fish burger, a grilled mahi-mahi filet, provolone cheese, and tartar sauce (on the side) on a toasted brioche bun. It also came with lettuce, tomato, and onion. It was just what I was after, light but tasty. I got one of the two daily special soups: Buffalo Chicken & Blue Cheese. It had a spicy kick at the end of each spoonful. To be honest it didn't really pair will with my fish sandwich but that's on me LOL. I also tried some of the lamb burger and it was even better, albeit heavier, than my fish burger. So, so good. Everyone liked what they ordered down to the person, and there were 10 of us. Service was classy but warm. She was pleasant and quick about things and everything came out as ordered. One person's meal was missed in the kitchen, so that came a little later, and I did have to wait on a drink refill once but when it was brought to her attention she had one right out. It was an amazing evening and if anyone else had wanted dessert, I definitely would have tried the apple crisp with ice cream and had a cup of coffee to go with it. Classy spot for a work lunch. The decor is modern chic and the atmosphere is lively with conversation and friendly banter. The menu has variety for all tastes, including gluten free. On this visit the lunch special (pork chops) was described in such a way that we could not order the salads we intended (the mashed potatoes have cream cheese!) M's Pub has always been a staple in Omaha's Old Market. Be prepared for a wait if you are a walk-in on most weekends. The decor has a great industrial chic look with waitstaff in all black to make you feel like you are in an upscale restaurant. Anything we have tried here has always been fantastic. The escargot with its cheesy goodness and the M's Greek Sandwich are absolute favorites. The service is hit or miss here. Clientele dressed in upscale clothes seem to get better service than those of us coming in after walking the Old Market. If we didn't love the food, this would be a three star review and had been a deterrent long ago. You would think this wouldn't be an issue as it is in a tourist location, but, we have been coming here for 20 years and it has always been the same. I was a little bit disappointed with M's Pub. We went for a friends birthday so we had a bigger group, which they accommodated for. Our waitress was nice, but a bit awkward. We had to request her for the bread. The menu is pretty diverse and prices range from 12 ish to 30. I got the falafel with a side of asparagus soup. The falafel was not great. There was no flavor and it was very soft all around. I would have preferred a crunch to it. The asparagus soup was alright, but again tasted a little bland. Pros for Ms pub is they have a great list of cocktails and can whip almost anything up! I got an aperol spritz and it was great. read more

I hadn't been to M's Pub in years as I moved out of state, and wow!! It was beyond my expectations! I took some family members who had never been there and the food was perfection and the service was 100% excellent. From the Brie en Croute to the Steak and Shrimp, the Omaha Sandwich and the Chicken Pesto sandwich, the Salad with the delicious poppy seed dressing - all was excellent!!!! Also, as we walked into M's my 3 yr old grand-daughter boldly asked the first person she saw for some lemonaide, we all laughed at her bold directive, then before we even had a chance to view the menu our server brought her a cup of lemonaide with a child-proof lid! We were very conscious of the closing time and ordered light apps, dessert and an easy cocktail. So very thankful to M's Pub for the welcoming atmosphere they provided to fill our tummies after a long day of traveling. This is NOT just a pub! Excellent everything!!! Lamb Satay and Baked Dish Lamb tips (Havarti cheese) were excellent as was the Lahvosh (original). Sat on the patio. It was a bit chilly so the overhead heater was on to take the chill out of the air. VERY comfortable. Very popular place. Staff was super attentive and friendly. Reservations are definitely needed. I'll start with the positive-This is a beautiful bistro, loads of ambience, and a charming wait staff. If it weren't for the poor quality of the food we would dine here weekly. Not sure what's happened at M's but we've had better meals on an airplane. We started with the burrata from the daily specials, which we thought would have meant it was superfresh since it was a daily special. The burrata was served with prosciutto, dressed greens and toasted bread with fig spread. Sounds great, but the burrata was dried out and more or less solid, none of that yummy slightly liquid and oozey creaminess. It had zero flavor to it, none of the rich buttery flavor that we expected from fresh burrata. The prosciutto was stiff, dried out, stuck together, and completely hard. The dressed greens were quite wet, not with the dressing, but watery. The toasted (supermarket white) bread was completely hard as a rock and would have made better croutons for the caesar salad or crushed to make bread crumbs, not browned and sent out on a plate as part of an appetizer. Another in our group ordered the black bean cakes which were fine, but left them feeling slightly sick afterwards. The entrees were equally disappointing. The fettuccine with pesto was over cooked and the pesto was completely tasteless. The chicken satay, and pork satay were both dried out, hard, and old. The "basmati" rice was not basmati, most likely boxed minute rice. We tried to salvage the meal with an order a crème brûlée to share. The portion was generous and pretty tasty, though the custard was still a bit too chilled, and the crunchy top layer wasn't quite warm. But it was delicious, and after our sad starters and entrees it seemed like the only triumph of the evening. I don't know what has happened to M's Pub, it used to be a sure thing for a stylish evening with interesting and expertly prepared dishes. Omaha is full of restaurants- head down the street to La Buvette, or The Boiler Room instead. The cuisine at Cibo Vino is excellent, though the interior decor is a little lacking. The kitchen staff at the incredibly delicious Ooh De Lally and La Bodega are hitting all the high marks that M's is missing. The 5 pg menu at M's is maybe a little too ambitious, especially since our food was old and tasteless. M's may want to rethink their menu/chef/ kitchen staff. I have heard about M's for years and always wanted to visit, and I finally made it a point to try it out. My wife and I decided to dine-in, and made reservations (definitely recommend during this time, especially on weekends). Seating is limited during this time, but there is patio seating, indoor seating, and bar seating available. The inside is awesome since they remodeled...a center stage wrap around bar, beautifully designed glass front kitchen, and industrial exposed brick walls and ceilings. The atmosphere is the winner at M's. As far as food, we went with the Sicilian Lahvosh, shrimp baked dish, and a few drinks (served with house bread). The Lahvosh felt like a nice appetizer, thin and crispy, with a nice havarti layer. It was nice...not bursting with flavor or overwhelmingly amazing by any means, but it would definitely suffice as a suitable appetizer. The shrimp baked dish was incredibly buttery, and nice and gooey cheese. I really liked the texture, but honestly (make no mistake, I love butter) it was one dimensional in flavor, just very buttery. The menu also seems just a bit identify confused...I'm really not sure where M's is going with it, but maybe that's just my opinion and I missed something. The drink menu is expansive, many cocktails, beers and wines to choose from. I like the local beer choice and took full advantage. I believe M's Pub is best suited as just that...a pub. I wouldn't treat this place as a restaurant that I would consider for a dinner date. Everything was good, not great. Service, ambience, food, and drinks, in that order. The service is exceptional. Special shout out to T.J. who made *both* of our visits last night memorable. He provided such noticeably great service that the four of us actually talked about how he was taking an already great evening and making it even better. He elevated the entire experience. Lavosh was, as always, the big hit. Thai chicken lavosh, vegetarian lavosh, and Florentine lavosh - all loved and all devoured. I was the outlier and had a delicious ribeye. And of course bites of everyone else's lavosh because that's how I roll :) But back to the review.... The food at M's is always good. Better actually, maybe like Good + You can rely on it. I don't know if I could say it's great - maybe, I'm not sure. But I'm also not sure it has to be. It is more than good enough. Because what you get at M's is the whole experience. It's beautiful, you feel special when you're sitting there part of it, you're taken care of with unparalleled service and attention. You feel and know you're having a magical time. The drinks though - I can't figure them out. We had a bottle (by which I mean two but who's counting) of a Sangiovese priced far below its flavor. What a nice surprise! Actual wine value in an environment like M's is rare. We all loved this wine, especially at that price. Then we came back later for nightcap drinks, which were just ok. This seems like a place that should scream great cocktails but somehow neither the cocktail menu nor the cocktails themselves spoke to us. Overall, I will happily come back here again. I like the vibe and suspect I'll enjoy working my way through the menu. Hopefully I can find a cocktail that excites me but until then at least I know we've got wine! read more

After reading reviews, I decided I should try the Crab Cakes at M's Pub. I was unaware how spicy they were. I ate most of one and gave my dtr the second one. My mouth was burning. Just now, I finished it. My mouth is burning again from the bit leftover. Service was great. Reuben was delicious. Next time I will ask before ordering how spicy something is. We were in town from Palm Beach and really wanted to eat at restaurants that were new to us. We were advised to make a visit to M's pub. We were really excited to go because we had not seen the downtown area since we had been in town. We walked in and were greeted and seated. Due to the force of the air coming out of the overhead vent we asked to be moved (I immediately began to get a sore throat). We were moved to a new table and reviewed the menu. As i scanned the room I noticed things that were not uniform across the restaurant. I assume they want it to feel lived in. I heard that the Lavosh is bar none the best so we started there. The joke as we waited for our food was us wondering if there would be hair in our food since it had happened twice that week at different restaurants around town. We received our Lavosh and it was so darned delicious that we had one waiting to be cooked to go. We ordered one original and Sicilian for there and a Sicilian to go. DEE-LISH! For entrees we orders the all beef hot dog (2), patty melt, and spinach salad. We received our entrees after about 30 minutes. My patty melt was ok. I have had better after 3 AM locally in Palm Beach at a dive bar to be honest. It was dry and flavorless in comparison to what I expected. My mom ate her hot dog but was not enthusiastic about it. The same for my daughter. The cocktails were okay. What we initially wanted they did not have the liquor in stock. My daughter ordered fruit with her hot dog and ALAS, she found a hair. We told our waitress, and she seemed to not really be concerned stating " That's odd, no one in the kitchen has long hair" and scanned the table. All she saw was an 80 yr old woman with a curly wig, me with my locs in a pony, a 10 yr old with braids in a pony and a bald headed man. No texture at the table fit the evidence left at the scene. After 10 minutes an older man came out with fresh fruit and a quite insincere apology. No offer to comp the meal, which wasn't as expected as it was the proper thing to do. Upon walking out, ALAS ....a man with brown hair and loose bangs/hair preparing food. Overall, the only thing worth eating there for us was the Lavosh. $180 with tip spent. In the oven the following day, the Lavosh reheated perfectly. read more
