Both individuals had very erratic schedules that made them difficult to track down and we only had 2 days to serve them since the initial order was given to the sheriffs department to serve and the sheriffs department took 2 weeks but were unsuccessful. Mike met with me Wednesday evening to go over the details, he said he was confident he could get the job done and quoted me a fair price. That same evening he was already successful at serving one of the individuals and by Thursday night he was able to serve the second person in the middle of the night who was being very difficult. We are truly grateful for what Mike has done and will highly recommend him to everyone we know if they are in need of a process server. Service was completed, but the overall experience was frustrating. Communication was inconsistent, and I had to follow up multiple times for updates and additional service attempts. The main issue was the proof of service. Ignorant of the process, I requested a specific court form be used from the court I was filing with, which ended up containing incorrect state information. My mistake but I expected the process server assigned to my case to be the expert and thought he would have caught and corrected something like this or make a different recommendation which didn't happen. When the court flagged it, I asked for a simple correction, but the process server became uncooperative and unresponsive, not replying to my texts and avoiding my calls, leaving me to look into the issue myself. Court staff indicated the process server's fee was higher than typical, and I was only awarded partial reimbursement when judgment was issued in my favor, which made the lack of responsiveness and attention to detail even more frustrating. Service was ultimately accepted by the court, but the process required far more effort on my end than expected. I'd recommend confirming communication, pricing, and documentation expectations upfront.

One of their phone numbers just always gave a busy signal with no option to leave a voice mail. Samara at CalExpress answered right away, told me immediately what my options were and stayed in touch via email during the whole process, as did the server. The defendant was served at home on a Friday at 3:30 and the proof of service was filed with San Diego Superior Court on Monday and sent to me both as a pdf and hard copy via USPS. Their prices were as good or better than the competitors I considered. Their service was excellent, but the real reason I am writing this review is to point out that when my case came to trial the first thing the judge asked me was if I had seen the defendant's and his son's filing prior to the hearing. I had not and was told that he claimed his son was served by mistake and that he was out of town, which would have further postponed the trail without my having said another word. I replied that I had a copy of the proof of service indicating it was served to the defendant himself. The judge already had it and said that because the service had been certified by an established server recognized by the court I could proceed. In five minutes I had won my case and was glad I had relied on CalExpress.
