I had been calling around to different process servers in San Diego for a week and was constantly being denied for my particular situation with getting someone served. Luckily, I was referred to Cal Express by another server and I called and spoke with Samara. Not only did she listen to my situation with compassion and kindness she jumped on it and had a process server out without an hour to the location where they believed the person may be. I am so incredibly relieved and thankful for coming across Samara and this company. They are very fast and efficient, no time wasted here! What I was lead to believe I was paying for is listed on https://www.calexpress.com/. This is a direct quote from the above referenced site: "Safety, Courtesy, Accuracy, Speed CalExpress will provide your company with a same-day solution for all your delivery needs. Uniformed, bonded professional messengers will expediently complete your requests with guaranteed on-time delivery. Customer satisfaction is our measure of success." I can only speak for my experience with this service, and I will give CE, (CalExpress) both the RESPECT and BENEFIT of doing so with the utmost honesty. This is an account of what actually transpired. My initial call I spoke with a veiled, yet seemingly professional sales rep named Mike. Mike was polite, empathetic, and collected, as any half-baked sales rep would be with a hot-lead, and even a micro-fraction of sense. I was assured this would be handled with the highest levels of "Courtesy, Accuracy, Speed" as advertised on CE's website, and that this would be sent out "Right Away", implying some degree of urgent action. This was Friday, 11.9.18 @ 4:18 pm. Shame on me, I knew better, but I decided to place my faith in Mike and CE, given the exigencies surrounding my particular circumstances. Payment in the amount of $75 was sent well within 24 hours following our conversation. This was on Saturday, 11.10.18. I called the number I had previously reached Mike, to leave a message about my payment, and updated details about my case. I wasn't expecting anyone to pick-up on a Saturday. Not a huge deal at all, everyone works hard(ly) during the week. Fast Forward to Monday 11.12.18 circa 8-9AM, when the office opens for business. I called to verify that my message had been received, and to update Mike with some of the more specific details about my case as I had informed him I would prior to paying. It was still pretty early and I didn't really expect anyone to be in the office yet, but I did contact one of Mike's associates and left him a detailed message, including reiterating the address where the services were to be performed/delivered. This marks the 2nd time I relayed this information to CE. I requested that Mike call/email me after he got in and had time to do so. It's Monday, I get it. Neither happened. I called and e-mailed again on Tuesday 11.13.18, and again received no response or acknowledgment. I was deep into a well of doubt about the sincerity of the CE mantra at this point. Wednesday 11.14.18, I called again, no response, I emailed, no response, finally in the afternoon I received a smug text reply after I had sent Mike a text asking if he could call me. "Not really, what's this about" was damn near verbatim the response. I was more than disappointed. The situation I PAID for their help with was spiraling out of control, and I made the staff aware of this when I attempted to contact Mike. My house broken into, my car vandalized, and threatening calls and messages that wouldn't stop. The cherry on the top? The people I hired to serve legal documents on my behalf were flagrantly flippant about my state of duress. I relayed the information about the updated address to Mike (CE) for a 3rd time, pressing the importance beyond what I should have had to. I was angry enough I decided to just put it out of my mind and forget about it. It was clear the task they were hired to do, was not going to be accomplished. The Sunday following this shenanigans, 11.18.18, I was in my living room watching Sunday Night Football with my front door open. I heard footsteps approaching on the loose gravel outside my home. Naturally I shifted my attention on the approaching entity. A nice guy in street clothes meandered up to my door, and asked for Kaitlyn. This is the party that was to be served. At the address I had provided CE with 3 times. I was almost in shock, then I remembered who was running logistical point on my case. The same guy that couldn't/wouldn't/didn't make time to catch up with me about the details, or bother to take note of them. I chuckled and gave the server his bearings, after all the party to be served now lives a few blocks from me. He was embarrassed, and I felt horrible for the guy. He had no clue that there was a new address. I attempted to follow up with Mike the following week, but I'm sure one can surmise how that went. I did happen to get in touch with a secretary/admin asst that was a little rude on the phone, nothing to absurd, at least in comparison to my experience with CE thus far. When I explained the details of my situation, it was like a light-bulb had just come to life. It must have been a funny light-bulb. She promptly responded by laughing into the phone and I could hear other staff-members laughing in the background. I was the butt of joke, that I paid them for. I had to serve a small claims defendant in Oceanside within 5 days and tried a couple of other process servers in the area listed here first and could not get them to respond to phone calls or email. One of their phone numbers just always gave a busy signal with no option to leave a voice mail. Samara at CalExpress answered right away, told me immediately what my options were and stayed in touch via email during the whole process, as did the server. The defendant was served at home on a Friday at 3:30 and the proof of service was filed with San Diego Superior Court on Monday and sent to me both as a pdf and hard copy via USPS. Their prices were as good or better than the competitors I considered. Their service was excellent, but the real reason I am writing this review is to point out that when my case came to trial the first thing the judge asked me was if I had seen the defendant's and his son's filing prior to the hearing. I had not and was told that he claimed his son was served by mistake and that he was out of town, which would have further postponed the trail without my having said another word. I replied that I had a copy of the proof of service indicating it was served to the defendant himself. The judge already had it and said that because the service had been certified by an established server recognized by the court I could proceed. I have been using CalExpress for over 12 years. Customer Service is excellent and I get my documents back pretty quickly. A lot of process servers in the area have "deadlines", so it's difficult to find someone to get something delivered to the court's drop box around 4:00 PM. I never had this problem with CalExpress, they are always there to get my job done. Eric has always been helpful with me and makes sure my special job requests are taken care of. Their accounting system is terrible. They still send me past due notices for a service completed in 2016. When the billing error was first discovered in early 2017 I spoke to accounting. They said they would fix it and didn't. I then talked to the manager and owner. He said he would fix it and he didn't. And now I just got the same bill again yesterday.....21/2 years later. I made a courtesy call to then yesterday and they said they would call me back. They never called. These people are either incompetent or liars. Don't waste your time. Use someone else.
