We were staying a few minutes away at our VRBO and realized... somehow... some way... we missed ordering our daughter's 21st birthday cake NEVER HAD WE EVER. No matter where we are in the world, we FaceTime and sing Happy Birthday... especially now that all our babies have moved out So missing the cake? Absolutely not. We walked into Myrtle's a little stressed and left smiling. I wish I had gotten the name of the woman who helped us because she was a whole vibe. She looked at us like, "Now how in the world y'all let this happen?" and I'm over here reading faces like I've got a degree in it... IYKYK But once she realized we were out-of-towners trying to make it right for our baby, she jumped right in to help. Cake ordered. Cake pops secured. Cookies added. Indy cakes in the box. And yes... I'm taking pics and videos while holding a full conversation with her and my husband at the same time. Multitasking at its finest A couple days later we picked up the cake and it was PERFECT. Simple. Cute. Exactly what we wanted. Our daughter absolutely loved it... and that's all that mattered. And because self-control was not on the itinerary... we grabbed more desserts to take back with us to Sunny Fl... and, of course, to "sample" while we were still there Because why not? Love this place. I seen it randomly while sitting in construction on emancipation Lol. I pulled off and walked in. Instantly the smelled like a fresh candle of any pastry you desire. I've had the pecan pie. Wonderful crust and crispy, texture was perfect and nice size fresh pecans. The cheese cake is also delicious, I only wish the crust was a little thicker for so much of the cake part they give you Lol. Definitely no complaints but just a little more you know. I also grabbed a chocolate chip cookie at the register. Soft with just a little crisp and over sized so you get what you pay for. read more

I just had the best sweet potato pie of my life! It lasted maybe 2 days in the house -- amongst two people. And there may have been a little jealousy on who got the last bite. Luckily, Not Jus' Donuts is just a two miles away from us. The bakery is 20 years old, but their recipes scale back from generations on end. It's female-owned, Black-owned, and family-owned. And - according to their Yelp page - their main ingredients: Love and prayer Well that love and prayer is delicious, because we can't stop thinking about that sweet potato pie. We went back today but they were sold out; we got a single serving of the banana pudding and buttered pecan pie. Friends, it takes like butter. And pecans. Very rich. According to their menu, each day features a special on a particular item, like vegan cookies on Tuesday, banana pudding on Wednesday; peach cobbler on Thursday; and donuts are only available on Saturdays. Can't wait to get in on those. Check out their website for their full menu, both catering, curbside and specialty cakes. Everything here is great especially the millionaires cake and the peach cobbler is off the charts. Also at thanksgiving stop by for the stuffing!!! I have been coming to this place for over ten years but my last straw was this past weekend where I ordered a cake for my son ! This cake was so dry and stale like cornbread! I paid over 100$ for the cake was specific with my design ideas and I felt like they just provided me with a quick item! It was stale it didn't come out how I expected and when I emailed them about it they basically told me I was lying about the consistency of the cake and they could tell the cake was indeed moist from pictures I took. I bragged on this cake to all the party goers and no one was happy about that cake not even my 5 year old son . He didn't even eat his piece . I asked for it to be colorful and look at these pictures . Plus the ink on the edible image was horrible . I can't patronize them anymore I feel bamboozled :( and I definitely won't be bragging or recommending them to anyone anymore!!! read more

I was visiting from Illinois in September and wanted to buy a cake for my husband's birthday. I ordered my cake on-line. The staff followed up via telephone the next day to confirm the accuracy of my order. On the day of pick-up, I was running late. Staff stayed over to wait for me to pick up my cake. The cake was beautifully decorated and taste even better. Very moist cake and icing was delicious. I am saddened to learn the owners have decided to close the business. So just relocating and looking for a place we stumbled across this gem. As a baker, my standard is a little different for what constitutes good and this place checks off all of my boxes. They even have vegan options. The cakes are made with love, the service is great and it's always great to see someone designing a cake right before your eyes when you walk in. Poor business etiquette   On this past Father's Day weekend (2022), for my father who is turning 101, my wife placed an order for a German Chocolate Cake. It was not only a big weekend because of Father's Day, but my family was looking forward to celebrating Juneteenth and this cake was going to be a part of that celebration. We have never ordered a full cake here before, but we have had the small bundt cakes that are sold in the case. WARNING: If you order a cake from here you will not be given full details about the cake. The woman that takes your order is rude and unprofessional. It seems the owner is aware of this because if you see the reviews, there are many complaints about the service here. Not only did our cake look nothing like the bundt cakes that they sell, but they also added birthday cake icing to it. We did not ask for this frosted icing, nor were we given any details about the fact that they decorate the cake differently that the smaller cakes that they sell. When I called to express my disappointment with the icing, I asked if they could please take the birthday cake icing off. The woman on the phone got agitated, stated that is how they make their cakes and did not want to anything I had to say. After a bit of back and forth, the woman decides to agree to take the icing off and tell me I can pick it up later. Shortly after hanging up the phone, my wife received  a text message stating that we had been refunded for the cake. When I found out about the refund, I called back to find out what was going on and spoke to George. I was told that the woman had changed her mind, she didn't want to fix the icing and just decided to cancel the order. I told George fine, I will just take the cake with the icing since we needed it for the celebrations, and he told ne he would check on the cake and call me back. He mentioned before ending the call that he could not guarantee that I could get the cake because they have 70+ orders and losing one order will not hurt them. Please be careful when doing business with Mrs. Myrtle's Bakery because it is clear that customers are not valued. My girls and I love to visit Not Jus' Donuts. Me, because most of the cakes remind me of the cakes I grew up eating, whether they were made by family or one of the sisters at church. Where are all my church folk that know about that cake and punch in the fellowship hall after 3 o'clock services?! Carrying on... These cakes are moist, buttery, and made with love. One of our personal favorites is the billionaire cake. I will add that this cake is a little rich and heavy, so make sure you have either worked out before or plan to work out after you eat it. Sadly, on our last visit I decided to try the tea cakes and I wasn't a fan. They had too much lemon flavor and not enough nutmeg. Also, they were not soft. I was hoping they would taste similar to my grandmother's, but they weren't. However, my youngest daughter has tried some of the other cookies and she's been pleased. I have had the heavenly butter cake for years, which is always moist. I ordered the strawberry cake, and it had a weird texture. It was firm and dry. I gave a 48-hour notice; therefore, I didn't understand why the cake was like that. Maybe it was frozen. I was also told they use dried strawberries, so I was expecting to see strawberry pieces in the cake, nope. I sent an email commenting on the strawberry cake and whether the marble cake was the same because my son wants one for his birthday. Unfortunately, no response, and unfortunately, I won't be back. I went in, and browsed their delictables that they had on display. I chose the Billionaire Cake, a piece of Sweet Potato Pie, and a Mini Butter Cream Bundt cake w/ Cream Cheese. (All for under $13.00) Now the ladies working in there were genuinely nice and even gave me a Delia's Tea Cookie for free, so that I could try it, to see if I liked it!! (I had inquired about it's sweetness). The Tea Cookie was just as it is supposed to be: not too sweet with a lovely texture and taste. The Bundt cake: The cake itself, while moist, wasn't very flavorful own it's own--it HAD to be eaten in conjuction with the cream cheese icing. Eaten together, it was quite tasty and satisfying! I visited Not Jus donuts after my mother co-worker told her about it. There is something about tea cakes which remind me of a big cookie, but they are called cakes. I've had tea cakes before in the past that were good, but Not Jus donuts tea cakes are a bit dry even when heated or ate cool. There was too much flour and lemon extract. We won't be back for any tea cakes. I did see a pina colada cake there and if you know me.. you'll know that I love pina colada. I would like to try how that tastes I'm very curious. My sister ordered cupcakes for my nieces 9th birthday on a Saturday and her party was Sunday. The pick up time was set and they were still over 50 minutes behind. Needless to say the cupcakes were a total disaster. They were hard, dry and nowhere near fresh. No one was impressed, even the birthday girl threw it away. Not Jus Donuts are closed Sunday/ Monday so when she spoke to someone today (Tuesday) their response was, "you should have saved them, and we've had customers who have been coming back for years!" At no point did they try to empathize or resolve the issue. I am totally disgusted in the manner in which this was handled and wouldn't recommended them for your special occasion. As someone who takes their cake super serious, I am picky when it comes to eating this delicacy. The back story, I happened to come into town for business, I brought my mother along because she just lost her husband, and it was my mother's birthday. Thanks to Yelp, I saw "Not Jus' Donuts Bakery" and was pleased with the reviews. I called the bakery the day before my mothers planned "birthday party" and the sweet woman I spoke to on the phone took my order perfectly. I arrived around 24 hours later (as promised) and like a fairy tail, my mother's cake was ready. I ordered the "Heavenly Butter Cake," with butter cream frosting and the name did this cake justice!
