I just got back from a 7 day cruise in/out of Seattle to Alaska, with a stop in Glacier Bay. I have friends that work for Holland America, so I thought I'd give them a shot. It was my first cruise so I didn't know what to expect, but I was pretty happy with the rooms. We called to arrange double twin sized beds, since I was going with a friend and thought that would be more comfortable, but they missed the note and our room was set up wrong, even though they told us it could be arranged no problem. Oh well.. the bed ended up being pretty comfortable and was probably a King cause we had plenty of space! The sheets were good quality and clean and the pillows were comfortable. I couldn't be happier with the rooms and the size of it! I was surprised how large they were - enough for a King bed, a sitting area, and a spacious verandah with a small table and two chairs, with foot rests! They were divided by barriers - enough so you can hardly see your neighbors. And the glass handrail was an amazing addition, so you can see the views when sitting low! The room stewards were amazing - we had a team of 2 people and they would come in and flip our rooms at least twice a day. Once in the daytime so our beds and bathrooms are cleaned and we had fresh towels after we woke up in the morning.. and again in the evening, to turn our beds and close our blinds before bed at night. We literally had a made bed all hours of the day! They would put the decoration on the beds during the day, and remove them when it was bed time at night. they even put luggage pads on our beds for boarding day and the night we needed to place our luggage outside to disembark! They have this system down to a T. The food was alright.. the burgers at the Dive-in were ok.. the fries were crispy and delicious! The wait was about 20-30mins at any given time. The NY pizza was indeed a disappointment. There was a wait but the pizza wasn't anything to rave about - frozen pizzas almost taste better. The Lido was on deck 9 and it was the buffet option on the cruise.. there were lots to choose from and the menu rotates and changes daily.. I liked the cereal/crepe/waffle option for breakfast. Though, the crepe station ran out of Nutella cause they had just a jar to work with? What?! They ended up giving me a plain crepe with two squeezy individual portions of Nutella to make my own crepe. Huh? And they didn't have bananas at the crepe station so I had to roam the boat to find my own bananas to cut into the crepe. Hah! I made it work.. but they need to do something about this! Also one person making crepes is not nearly enough for a boat of hundreds of people! There's a salad bar.. and a hot station with salmon/roast beef/etc and the sides... there's also an Asian station with rotating menus for Indian/Indonesian/Chinese, etc.. with a sushi selection (that was pretty sad). I think one of the best items from Lido was the Indonesian day with a spicy chicken over rice. The best part of the cruise was the ice cream.. you have ice cream flavors of the day and soft serve! I think I had one at least once a day.. and lots of little sweet pastries and mousse to choose from. The pastries were ok.. ice cream was top notch! You also have the formal dining room experience where you sit down for a 4 course meal each night.. this is a hit or miss.. but service was alway on par. Bring your own wine for a $18 corking fee! Well worth it! Or hit up the happy hours on board for $2 on your 2nd drink! You get 2 drinks for about $12! Steal! You can also pay for the 4ish restaurants on board and make reservations - we did the Tamarind for $25 and the food was delicious!!! Didn't get to try any of the other ones cause they rotate and could be closed one night in place of another restaurant. The entertainment on board was a bit lacking.. there wasn't enough to do.. We did lots of Billboards but the entertainment was mostly the same most nights.. Billboards, which was like a dueling piano with theme nights.. BB King show/dancing.. and some type of violin/piano/classical music show. There's the Test Kitchen and BINGO and the casino and pool.. but there needs to be a bit more variety! Overall, I enjoyed the cruise. It was very smooth going to Alaska in mid May.. the 2nd cruise to Alaska of the year.. early in the season. Smooth waters and we were really lucky with amazingly clear weather at every single port. Definitely plan for some excursions, I would recommend the helicopter and airboat tour in Juneau to land on the Taku glacier! Amazing views! Glacier Bay was equally as amazing to cruise through.. especially the wild life (we saw seals, sea lions, eagles, bears and whales). The sound of that glacier ice breaking into the ocean was crazy! I can't compare this cruise to anything since it's my first but I can believe there are more things to do and more food options on other cruises. I think this is a smaller ship but I had a good experience

We just had the pleasure of taking our second cruise aboard the Eurodam and our 7th cruise overall. We're a fan of Holland America Line for their understated elegance, excellent cuisine, and ships where there are lots of options for activities (including just staying in the cabin to enjoy some peace and quiet). Eurodam, the second newest of HAL's ships, delivers all of this on a mid-size vessel that accommodates around 2100 passengers. The itinerary we chose for this trip was a 7-day adventure to Alaska. We stopped in four ports, but the absolute highlight of the trip was the entire day we spent in Glacier Bay National Park. A special bonus to the spectacular scenery was picking up some NPS staff who narrated our trip through the park. On board the ship I enjoyed my daily visits to the Greenhouse Spa's deluxe thermal suite (you can purchase a weeklong pass as you board the ship), plus fun entertainment like a dueling piano bar and the BB King's Blue's Club with its phenomenal dance band. Other activites included America's Test Kitchen cooking demonstrations, several games and trivia contests, a talented magician (he made Pomeranians disappear - yes actual Poms!), a comedian, and a couple of Vegas-style shows. There was also live music throughout the ship (although we missed the band on the Lido deck which we'd enjoyed on previous trips). The Eurodam has several dining options, including the Main Dining Room, Lido, New York Pizza, and the Dive-In burger joint - all of which are included in your fare. There are also several higher end dining options which are available for an additional fee. On this trip we had an amazing Asian-themed dinner in the Tamarind (TRY THE SUSHI!) and a SPECTACULAR dinner called Rudi's Sel de Mer which was held in the Pinnacle Grill. There are also multiple bars throughout the ship. And don't forget their 24-hour room service - a fun and easy way to get breakfast each morning (and also included in the fare). The best part of cruising on HAL is the crew and staff, who provide service that makes you feel like royalty. From the room stewards who keep your cabin sparkling, to the servers, to the bartenders, to the dining room hosts, to the cooks...seriously I could make a list a mile long of the amazing smiles we met at each turn. I definitely look forward to yet another cruise with HAL, and would happily pick the Eurodam again if the itinerary was right.

We ended up really enjoying the tour and would highly recommend to visitors. This would especially be a great thing to add to your itinerary if you're only in the city for a short time, as you get to see a lot of landmarks in a short time. You also get to hear about the city's history and key industries. The ride overall is pretty smooth, and my husband, who gets motion sickness, was totally fine. The boat when docked can experience a little more motion, however, so your mileage may vary. We also found it easy to get seats with good views, and the guides were easy to hear anywhere on the boat. The crew were friendly and engaging, and Angelo and the other staff were very kind to us when my husband and I mentioned we were celebrating our anniversary.

The check-in and onboarding process was super easy. The ship promptly left dock at designated time. The top deck had open view. The second level had enclosed area with glass window views. Also both ends were open to guests as well. From start to end, the staff member did an amazing job of narrating many aspects of the views from the deck. A lot of it was about the downtown Seattle buildings, Space Needle, buildings and parks by the shore, the sea ports and many other cool facts along the way. I throughly enjoyed the hour long tour. The weather was also fantastic to take stunning pictures of the downtown, the mountains and the port. They also had a bar in second level where they served alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages, pop corn and some small snacks. Prices were decent for it being a tourist activity. We liked both popcorn and the strawberry lemonade.

This sailing was 2 hours long and the stays within Elliott Bay. Sailing Seattle has a fleet of 3 yachts. We were on a their largest vessel, S/V Obsession. This ocean racing yacht was designed by Sparkman & Stephens and was built for training US America's Cup teams. This yacht can accommodate up to 48 passengers and has a total length of 70ft. We boarded from Pier 56 and settled in for the 2 hour narrated journey. Boarding was seamless. The yacht has some non-slip surfaces and grab handles to help with balance and traction. Seats are first come first serve. After a brief safety demonstration on life vests, we set off on our sunset sail. This experience was further enhanced by their BYOB rule. We were allowed to bring our own snacks, wine, and beer. Our sailing path weaved in and out of ferry lanes and we completed some sharp turns, really showcasing the agility of the yacht. We pulled in after sunset providing everyone a beautiful nighttime view of downtown Seattle and waterfront. Service was fantastic. The crew was friendly and efficient. My biggest recommendation when doing the sunset cruise is to layer up (sweater/jacket) or even bring a nice blanket.
