I can't say enough amazing things about Manny. I initially found Manny based on his Yelp reviews, and while initially worried about some of the other reviews, I actually appreciated that he took the time to respond to negative reviews. I decided to reach out to meet him and have him see our new 2 bedroom for some renovations before moving in. From the beginning, he was open and honest about what he could do and how long it would take. He was transparent about things he felt were outside his wheelhouse and where it could be better or even cheaper (no middleman) to have pieces done externally (e.g. electrical work, installing Elfa closets, millwork/carpentry). I've had construction done in places before, and last time, the contractor was 3 weeks late on a one-bedroom. So while I got a timeline of almost 8 weeks for the work, he insisted that he did not want to be one to undersell the time and he'd rather underpromise and overdeliver. He really instilled trust from the onset, and gladly, it's something I never lost. He ended up finishing only one day late...even though I added to the scope along the way. Manny was at the project site nearly every day, whereas I've had other contractors bring in a team and move on to the next project. Manny was actually hands-on in doing the work, taking every measurement, and ensuring the perfect execution of every detail. He's a perfectionist, and he took this project as if it was his own home. If something didn't look right or mismeasured, he'd point it out himself and re-do the task himself. He readily helped us think through every detail, even guiding us in our decision of where to be cost-effective vs where we should invest for quality in buying things like lighting, finishes, etc. He did such an incredible job with out apartment, we couldn't be happier with the quality of the work, his attentiveness to detail, and his responsiveness to us -- whether by phone, text, or email. I've since recommended him to my family for a variety of projects- big and small. I most certainly will be using him again for my own needs, and in fact he's already come back to look at some botched, partially completed millwork that I decided to source through another company. read more

I originally hired Manny to redo our circa 1950s upstairs bathroom which had plumbing and tile problems and was long overdue for work. He did a total renovation of the bathroom, including replacing the tub with a shower stall, repairing the trim around a small window, and tiling the floor and shower stall, all to the highest standard. I was so pleased that I then kept adding things that I had long put off but also needed to be done in my 110-year-old Brooklyn rowhouse -- replacement of ceramic tiles on my back deck, resetting concrete blocks that lead into the yard, fixing cracks in the hallway walls downstairs, putting in a new ceiling in the downstairs bathroom when the old one literally collapsed into the tub, and the most difficult job, dealing with perennial water problems in my basement office. Manny did excellent work on all of these, and every step of the way was a pleasure to deal with -- communicative, responsive, reasonably priced, and always eager to figure out the exact best solution to the work at hand. He is also very meticulous; for example, there is a curvature in the hallway wall that he replicated in the sheetrock and baseboard, and he managed the art of making the new door framing in the bathroom blend with the old framing in the hall. As you can tell, I've returned to him repeatedly and he is always very responsive and helpful. I would also add that he is quite careful to minimize the disruption that having work done on the house while we continue to live here, cleaning up for the weekend, containing dust, and so forth. Manny offered suggestions but never made a design decision on his own even calling me on whatsapp when I was out of the country to make sure he was giving me what I wanted. Very disappointed! Manny came to my home to repair floor joists in my crawlspace. He stated that he would sister the beams, requested to be paid for half the job to purchase materials, and never completed the job. Two engineers looked at his work and stated that he used the wrong materials and did an ineffective job which was going to make it more difficult to repair. He kept the money for a job that was not completed and had to be redone the correct way. I was completely taken advantage of as I trusted that he knew what he was doing. Thankfully, I found a good contractor that did the work with the correct materials and did not require any money until the job was completed, and he charged less. read more

If I could give them more than five stars, I would. Hired them to do some plastering/spackling/painting repairs/touchups in my co-op apartment. Professional from start to finish. The only one of the many contractors I called who actually called me back. Gave me a contract with the breakdown of costs. Was able to start the job shortly thereafter. Showed up each morning at the designated time. Used plastic and drop cloths while working and cleaned up every speck after each visit. I had a very bad experience with MRBK. Things were initially going well -- quick response, Menahem came out and gave an oral quote. When I tried to get the quote in writing, however, he explained that this would cost an additional $150. This struck me as bizarre and off-putting. Oral quotes -- free; written quotes -- $150?
