The grouper sandwich was good. It needed a little bit of salt but I can see why this is a specialty here. Tender meat, good sauce. Definitely a top seafood spot if you're looking for something less tourist-y.

Nonetheless, I checked in and identified myself with the hostess that we were to get the dinner check(this was arranged ahead of time). She said "ya." We went to the table, received water and I excused myself to go to the restroom and at that time I encountered our server and reminded him we were to get the check to which his response was, "this is going to be a fun evening." I didn't think too much of it. We continued on with ordering wine, appetizers and our dinner. Guest gets up to go to the restroom and I said to my husband I think she wants to pay the bill and my husband said it shouldn't be a problem because he told the hostess and I said, good because I told the hostess and our server also. Fast forward, check comes and server hands the check to our guest. We were mortified and he acted like he didn't know, was arranged ahead of time, and guest had already taken care of it, etc. Our guest is not from the area, she had no idea where we were going for dinner, and could not have arranged to receive the check in advance of us. It was our reservation, with my husband and I requesting the check 3 times before dinner was even ordered only to have our check handed to our guest. Food and service - server was LOUDLY describing the entire menu to our table, even though we've been there before. After about 5 minutes of descriptions we were starting to get uncomfortable. No other server was doing this. Didn't have the wine we wanted, brought a comparable bottle without even letting us look over the wine list again. Ordered Caser salad and asked for anchovies. Was told they do not have anchovies, not even in the dressing but he would get me some anchovies on the side. Brought the salad and no anchovies on the side, I said nothing. Ordered the cod, it was not cooked in the center under the crabmeat and was cold. Waited a while for server to come back and check on us. When he finally did I asked him if the kitchen could heat up the cod (pointed to the raw fish), he said of course and took it away. He came back 3 minutes later with the fish in a to-go box??? I guess the kitchen wasn't in the mood to cook my fish Husband's paella had dried, overcooked seafood and salty. Honestly, did not want to make a big deal because we had a guest with us but when the server delivered the check to the guest, despite multiple confirmations we were paying, that really ruined it for us. Yes, people will say that it's not the job of the staff to figure who is fighting over the check, but having owned a fine dining restaurant for over 30 years, if person makes a reservation, and confirms through reservation, AND with hostess, AND server AND husband does the same AND restaurant could care less, then that tells you all you need to know. They do not care about food or service.

The food as delicious and super fresh. We tried the grouper bites and the special our first night, which is pictured. I believe the daily special was a crab stuffed/skin on Pompano. The photo doesn't do it justice, it was great. The second night we enjoyed the mussels, bacon wrapped scallops, and side salad. Also great. Both nights had lovely live music, and it wasn't too loud. But it turns out at 2:50 on a Friday afternoon I could still order the daily lunch special - grouper with hearts of palm, rice and pea pods. Wow! Absolutely amazing. Seriously the favorite meal on my mini vacation. Service was friendly, and prices were reasonable for quality and ambiance. Don't forget the key lime pie. Hubby and I each got our own and I'm glad that was the case. I could have eaten two slices:) We will be back to Casey Key Fish House.

My family's favorite appetizer is the Brooklyn Style Wings - maybe because we are from Brooklyn, but the wings are addicting with the flavors of sausage, peppers, and a vinegary sauce.
