They weren't the cheapest--I got a text from a woman at another service saying they'd be able to do it for $198, but they couldn't come until tomorrow and unfortunately in this case time was definitely of the essence. The guys came within an hour and had all the appliances loaded within five minutes--from the time they pulled up to the time they pulled away was ten minutes tops. They were pretty transparent about pricing, though they couldn't give us an exact cost because they charge based upon how much it fills the truck. There was a $25 fee for Freon removal. Since I wasn't sure if pricing, and after reading a few posts- I also followed up with some companies on Thumbtack. I had two companies say they could do the yard waste removal for $200 and $220 respectfully. I reached out to Andrew, with 1-800-Got- Junk, who had texted earlier on Friday to see if they could come that evening. I asked if they would be able to give a price with pictures as I had other individuals who had. I sent the photos and he gave the price of $249. I thanked him for his time but asked that we cancel my appointment. That I will be going in a different direction. He asked if there was a number he could match and I shared $200. He agreed and shared he let the crew know it was a flat $200. Upon arrival today I showed the guys the pile. I mentioned on the phone to Brandon, when he called to share he was on his way and asked where the items were, that a few pavers were out front but otherwise everything was in the back. When they arrived I showed him and his partner the spot. I shared I didn't want all the pavers in the photos I sent removed, just the scallop ones and that there's a few out front. Which would be a total of less pavers than the original picture had. I asked if I paid now or later, as he confirmed they were told the flat rate of $200. He said after when they were done. Brandon and his partner got to work. After 5-10 minutes, my doorbell rang. I was shocked it was that fast. They were almost done but Brandon shared his manager Miguel was on the phone and wished to speak to me. He said that because the pavers out front weren't in the photo it would be a different charge. Okay- I mean there were a ton of pavers in the photos sent and I didn't want them to take the majority of those but I understood. He went on to say that even though it is a very small amount of pavers, it would be an additional $100. Yes, you read that right - 50% MORE than promised for the pavers out front. I said that was crazy. He said he knows it seems like a lot but that Andrew already gave me a huge discount, so it'll need to be that price. No mention of just not taking the pavers and honoring the price agreed upon. I shared I had another company willing to do this job for $200. He then started accusing me of adding items. I was transparent and wasn't trying to trick anyone. He then started grilling me on the phone and I said it doesn't matter as he shared they wouldn't be doing the job for less than $300. I said no thank you and that the guys would need to put the items back. He laughed at me. I immediately stop them as they were about to haul another pile. I didn't realize it was almost the last pile. When I shared what occurred, they both seemed shocked of the additional $100 request, or rather demand. They did put all the items back but they threw it all over my backyard. I understand their frustration but what kind of bait and switch was that?!? I reached out to the number Andrew texted yesterday. Not sure if it goes to his work line or the company. I'm not asking for a discount nor for them to come back. I reached out to the other company and they will be coming to take care of this for the agreed upon $200. I'm not big of negative reviews. As you'll see from my profile and only write them if a line was crossed. The way I was spoken to on the phone and the way they left my yard was that line. Photos show what I sent. I told the guys when they got here they didn't have to take all of the pavers in the backyard but just the scallop ones. That there's a few scallop I moved to the driveway instead that would go. I highlighted the red section of the ones that wouldn't need to go. Again the agreed upon price included ALL of these pavers going. So swapping one those for others...don't get. Plus I understand and would have paid $20-25 more if needed. ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS...50% more. No.

This being said, roofing contractors have gotten a bad name over the last decade or so due to the prevalence of "storm chasers", or contractors that travel around, quick to promise new roofing and exteriors fully paid for by insurance and without a cost to the homeowner. There are contractors who lack integrity and honesty, and will pull any string available to get you to sign for subpar workmanship and materials, while you pay the premium. Enter Responsive Roofing. My first encounter with Ron was several years ago, when I had been in my home for a few years. At the time, I was worried about the age of my roof and had called his company to come inspect it. To my surprise, Ron told me that while my roof was older, it still had some time on it and that he would suggest coming back in the next 3-5 years to check again. I've gotta admit, I was impressed, if not a little shocked. He didn't try to use fear tactics, or sell me on something I didn't need. He spoke honestly, and gave me an understanding of the true situation and timeline I was looking at. As you can guess, this left an impression on me. Fast forward to summer of 2025. Remembering my encounter with Ron several years back, I again called him to inspect my roof and give me his fair opinion. He of course did exactly that. It was time to move forward with our project. We decided to add on improved shingles and venting, new gutters, and some Hardie Board siding to replace wood paneling that was deteriorated on the front of our house. Such a large purchase is nerve wracking, to say the least. But I cannot stress enough how absolutely ACCURATE the name of this business is. "Responsive Roofing" is not just a name. It encompasses every aspect of how Ron runs his business. From promptly answering every possible question I could have, to providing estimates and brainstorming solutions for what we wanted to accomplish, I could not be more impressed. His crews were friendly and polite, and left not a trace that they were here each day. Ron was on the job site, and was so proactive in protecting our landscaping and house exterior so that we never had to worry that something would go wrong. The finished work (see pictures) was impeccable. Every detail was perfect, and the value of our home and increase in curb appeal was everything we could have wanted in this project. Lastly, I learned SO much from Ron. It is evident that it is important to him to make sure his clients understand exactly what they are purchasing, as well as the function of each part. At no part in this process did I stress that I had made the wrong decision because Ron's responsiveness and attention to detail was so strong that I never needed to. We hired College Hunks (Naperville, IL) for a local move between two homes that were only about five minutes apart. Before the move, we answered detailed questions about the size of the homes, the number of rooms, and what needed to be moved. Based on that information, we were given an estimate of approximately 6 hours of work and an expected cost of around $2,000. The reality was very different. The move ended up taking approximately 13 hours--more than double the estimate--and our final bill was nearly $4,000. We were told the extra time was due to a two-story walk-up and a blocked alley entrance, but these explanations do not justify such a massive difference from the estimate we were given. The men on the team also did not inform anyone that they were going on break and we have no idea when they started/stopped their break. To make matters worse, several items were damaged during the move: * The back panel of a dresser was damaged. * The center support leg for that dresser was lost. * A small piano was broken. We submitted a damage claim during the first week of May and have repeatedly attempted to follow up. Despite numerous calls, we have received no meaningful update or resolution. At this point, the lack of communication has been just as frustrating as the damage itself. I understand that estimates can change and that moving is difficult work. What I do not understand is how a move can take more than twice as long as estimated, result in damaged property, and then be followed by weeks of silence when a claim is submitted. All we have asked for is a fair resolution regarding the damages and a reasonable review of the charges. Instead, we have been left chasing answers. Based on our experience, I would strongly encourage anyone considering this company to get every detail in writing, ask detailed questions about how charges are calculated, and carefully document the condition of all belongings before the move.

It's a shame, but when you're starting your business, reputation is everything, and if you don't have staff with your same work ethic, then you're going to go down fast!
