The best tacos in Jacksonville. The hospitality was super nice and the food came out super fast.

I have been to Mr. Taco a decent amount of times along the years and in recent times they have lost alot of the edge the used to have. The last three times the food came out cold and extremely salty, no joke it felt like the top of the can of salt fell open on the tacos. The prices are insanely high for Mexican food, and now they don't even stay open that late so it's not even a good spot to go get late night food anymore when everything else is closed even on the weekend. Service is fine but again SLOW. Not much to say about ambiance its next to a liquor store. read more

I stopped by Mr. Taco last night for a couple of shrimp tacos--corn not flour tortillas, hold the tomatoes. There were three orders ahead of me but they moved quickly so I didn't wait for long. My tacos were just okay; meh. They hit the spot but certainly weren't the best I've ever had. They doubled-up on the tortillas so there were two for each taco. The shrimp were flavorful and, thank goodness, were the best part. The melted cheese tasted like...mozzarella? It even melted the same as mozzarella. So many great Mexican and other Latin cheeses yet they seemingly use an Italian cheese. I prefer corn over flour tortillas because when done right, corn imparts more flavor. Again, these were just okay, nothing special, which begs to reason the need for two for each taco as the interior tacos didn't get soggy and structurally held up well. Both tacos could have benefitted from a couple of lime wedges but my meal didn't come with any. Instead, it came with a side of tortilla "chips", which were nothing but a broken taco shell. I know because the shapes were obviously a shell. I put them back together like a puzzle and yup, taco shell. They lacked flavor and salt. If they're the same chips used for the nachos (my first choice) , I'm glad I went with tacos instead. Mr. Taco missed the mark for me. They seem to pull a decent crowd and the reviews are good which is puzzling but to each his or her own. I was not impressed, I was really underwhelmed. The shrimp saved the meal and on their own, they were delicious. Fortunately, there are other taco trucks to try so my search continues. read more

I loved it! I was looking for something different, didn't want to go to the usual restaurant we usually go to. Was scrolling around yelp, and found this little gem. The reviews on yelp seemed promising and the pictures made my mouth watery. So I gave it a try, no regrets! This can be on my favorite list. The service was good, it felt nice supporting a small local business. I ordered three tacos one steak, pork and chicken it comes with cilantro, tomato, lettuce, sour cream, onions. It was so delicious it felt like you were out in one of those food trucks in California. You can tell this is AUTHENTIC Mexican food, made by real Mexican people. If you are looking for real Mexican food come check this place out. I feel like the word authentic is overrated and people use it in restaurant places but when you go and try the food it is not really authentic. As much as I have a soft spot for Americanized tacos, these bad boys are filled to the brim with meat and the works, while double wrapped in corn [or flour] tortillas. *Corn tortillas all the way* Three tacos for $6.50? Hollaaa, y'all. Order: chicken, chorizo and steak. All three were incredible, with each bite increasing in mouth-watery-taco-ring-the-church-bell-ness. We had actually went to the food truck takeover by Academy Sports and turned right back around because the lines were way too long. We notice this truck on our way to the Asian store across the street and was starving. The truck didn't look fancy like the other ones at the food truck event, but the their high reviews on Yelp convinced me to check them out. I'm happy to report that the tacos here are legit!! I was starting to give up hope on finding authentic Mexican food in JAX. Since this was the first time trying them out, we only ordered 3 carne asada tacos. This was truly a 4 stars experience because the wait was long. There was only one guy working and there were people ahead of us that had a large order. In addition to this, we ordered corn tortilla and were given flour. The flour tortilla did taste fresh and homemade but our preference is corn tortilla when it comes to tacos. Looking forward to trying out items on their menu and glad that my search for authentic and affordable Mexican food has ended. read more

This review is way past due considering the fact that my first time going to Mr Taco (the restaurant, not the trucks) was about three years ago. Their customer service at any location has always been right on the money, and their food is amongst the top spots for Mexican in Jax if you ask me. My friend took me to the truck a couple nights ago and we waited for about 10 minutes but it was worth it. The parking lot was packed and the maze you have to go through to get in and out might be a bit hectic, BUT, fret not... For the smell of your food alone will have your taste buds on a journey. You owe it to yourself to stop by, the trucks don't serve as many items as the restaurant but the tacos are all I need! I've tried the steak, and carnitas and the carnitas are ALWAYS my favorite! This truck is an oasis of deliciousness in a desert called Late Night. When most eateries are closed Mr Taco is my go to spot for a tasty bite. In the past I would always get two chicken tacos but since the price is super affordable I now almost eat 3. These tacos never make it home and are hastily devoured on a makeshift table (aka the hood of my car). The tacos are fresh, flavorful and authentic. Nothing pretentious here just legitimate street food accompanied by great service. If you are a fan of the Mr Taco brand you will appreciate this truck. Came here because tacoboss was closed and I was set on tacos. So I thought I'd try em out. Ordered the 3 steak tacos with everything. Since they didn't have any sort of condiment section to top your tacos yourself like many others. Got the tacos and they came with the most tasteless orange nacho chips a slice of lime and 2 small red and green sauces in condiment cups. The sauces were like water so you couldn't open and put it on the taco like a normal SAUCE because it just runs over and spills off the back bottom of the little container as you attempt to pour it. The corn tortillas taste like flour and have are greasy which was wierd. Finished the first taco and thought, I don't know if I can finish the other 2. Forced myself to eat the second. Wanted to try a new place for Mexican food and I can only describe the experience as outstanding. Not only the best steak and fish tacos we have ever had but it was delivered hot and fast and accurate every detail followed to a T. We will definitely be eating Mr. Tacos going forward. I feel like I am cheating on the Taco Bell right down the street every time I go to the Mr. Taco truck. Whenever I get a late night Mexican craving, I now end of driving a few more lights down for some of the best tacos in town. My buddies and I used to meet up at the Mr. taco location off of Bowden (which has some of the best daily specials known to man) before I found out about their food truck beach Blvd location. Ever since, I just hit up their truck because I don't usually want tacos during the day (I guess I can blame Taco Bell's late night drive thru for those bad habits). The food is always amazing and the prices are super cheap. I went the other night and got one chicken, one steak, one chorizo, chips, and two different salsas for a little less than $7. These aren't small 1oz meat tacos either, these are massive fully loaded with tons of meat and fresh toppings tacos meant for only the mightiest of late night appetites. The best part is that they are usually open to some time past 11 and close to midnight from my experience. Mr. taco offers other items, but with taco in the name you know you what you got to get. Also they have glass bottle cokes from Mexico which is, IMO, the best way to drink coke. The atmosphere can be a little shady sometimes since it's late, but there is usually a number of people there trying to get their taco fix as well. I recommend the corn tortillas for the tacos and I have honestly not had a meat there that I haven't thoroughly enjoyed so try different types. read more

SInce moving to Jacksonville from Las Vegas and having lived in San Diego for a few years I've been on the hunt for some really good cheap mexican food..... like the food trucks you find everywhere in San DIego or the mom pop shops like Roberto's, that's cheap and convenient and makes for good drunk food at 1 in the morning in Vegas. So I've tried some Mexican spots here and haven't found anything quite like the food in Vegas or San Diego, I've tried what seems to be Jacksonville's version of a "California Burrito" and somehow it doesn't taste or resembles a true "California Burrito". California Burrito is obviously not an authentic mexican staple but it's a true staple in San Diego- pretty much meat (carne asada) and potatoes, ooey gooey cheese, and salsa fresco, and of course guacomole! So as of right now I haven't found my true "California Burriito" but I did find my other favorite thing and that's, CARNE ASADA TACOS! I've seen the Mr. Taco food truck a couple of times driving past it on one of my many excursions. Mr. Taco is situated on Beach Blvd. and Peach Street next to a liquor store- (so convenient, who doesn't love a taco with an ice cold beer or a shot or two of tequila- goes hand in hand, if you ask me!). The menu is pretty basic carne asada, pescado (fish), al pastor, carnitas (pork), and camorones (shrimp). So I ordered the carne asada tacos on corn tortilla (3 for $6-what a steal!). The marinade and seasoning on the carne asada was just perfect, it was exactly how I remembered it to be the first time I had it in San Diego. It was topped with crema(which is very similar to sour cream, but not as tart and full bodied) it also had salsa fresca- tomatoes, onions, garlic, cilantro, and a touch of lime. The tacos came with tortilla chips and salsa, i was also given a green salsa which I believe to be tomatillo sauce and had a bit of heat to it, which I just loved. Overall the experience with Mr. Taco has been superb! The carne asada tacos were delicious. Everytime I go I keep telling myself that I am going to order something different like the Tacos al Pastor but I can't help but to keep ordering the carne asada tacos- THEY ARE THAT GOOD!!! read more

It breaks my heart to give this place 3 stars. From the pictures and list of toppings I was excited about authentic food. I didn't go with the tacos and ordered a steak burrito. I open the box and it was a little smaller than expected, no biggy. I cut it in half expecting it to be full of steak and all the fillings listed. To my demise it was 1/3 rice....... my biggest pet peeve. The flavor was very good. The pricing would be ok if it was all meat.
