Had a lot of bad luck with this company and some ok luck. They send 'confirms' for appointments....to many times. I made an appointment, then send reminders, but while working and getting many txt is did not see they sent another the day prior. So they NEVEr showed Or even called me. Repaired my septic, then I had terrible smell in my home setting off my gas detectors after a $10K plus repair. They came and charged $400 for a smoke test (after on earlier failed attempt to determine) only to finally conclude that the tank, because of the set up, was venting back into my home (which the claim was a code issue) Then then charred me $1200 for replace it for 1 hour with of digging and putting back a vent I had prior. Had them install a hot water heater for my propane and then mistakenly installed a gas hot water heater. Replaced my latest hotwatef heater for $3700, now 4 attempts later my water temp is still 145 degrees. As of today they now they fail to show up to appointment. Do not use them. I will have to take them to small claims for my hot water heater to work (AO Smith water heater apparently can't regulate temp). Very disappointed in a company that I have sent over 20K with that use to be very professional. read more

Mr Rooter was recommended to do our sewer pipes as tree roots were growing into the pipes causing back ups in my cellar. it required them to dig up the lawn which they did and they worked on it during the winter and were done in just a day or two which for obvious reasons was very helpful. my cellar had been a mess. they totally fixed the really bad problem with the backup onto the floor. I dealt with John Wayne for the pricing of the repair, and Josh, Scott and Dakota for the repair. John Wayne a very fair and honest guy who kept the quote as is, even though we hired them to fix the pipes months and months later. because of the digging during the winter, they had left 3 large mounds of dirt, which were unsightly, but necessary as the ground was all rock hard with snow and they would remove when the weather was better in the spring. months later now in April, Josh and Scott from Mr Rooter came back and did an absolutely excellent job fixing my lawn removing all the hard dirt and tilled so I can now get grass back in the spots. Mr Rooter from John Wayne to Scott and Josh and Dakota, to the office workers are all fantastic and very good at keeping the customer updated every step of the way. I totally recommend Mr Rooter! Cant recommend. Had Mr rooter out about 6 months ago for a dishwasher install. Paid premium around $600 to install a dishwasher. 6 months later the dishwasher is not secured to the cabinetry thus when all drawers of dishwasher are pulled out dishwasher falls forward. I had them come out to fix the situation which they promptly responded but suggested they did it right the first time and couldn't resolve. I find it hard to believe that if the dishwasher was properly secured that we would have this issue. read more

I initially had Mr. Rooter come out to replace an old bathroom faucet with new shut-offs. The tech Nick ( owners son ) spent most of his time complaining about his father the owner. He then broke the faucet trying to make it fit rather than just tell us it wouldn't work for that sink. We had to return the faucet for a new one at my expense.  We made another appointment with Nick to do some additional work which was to take the whole day. Nick never showed for the appointment.  It took me calling the corporate office to even get ahold of the local office, to figure out what happened. There AI phone system sucks. Apparently Nick forgot the appointment. After speaking with Duncan ( owners ) we agreed to have two techs come for the next appointment rather than taking any discounts. The techs did arrive as scheduled and completed the work in less than three hours. Everything was rushed. A grinder was used, rather than a less invasive option, to cut our shower tile. Nick made a complete mess of the shower and filled my downstairs with dust for hours. Nothing was cleaned before leaving so I had to spend the time saved cleaningup their mess. We had to have them return not once but twice to fix mistakes that Nick had made before everything was fixed to our satisfaction. After the final repair nobody but the corporate office bothered to contact us. We incurred the cost of replacing the initial faucet, shampooing our carpets, furniture and electronics to eliminate the dust they left behind ( $300 ). We then received a quote for additional work we were to have done before this mess, and the quote was three times higher than where we ended up going. We refused to have Mr. Rooter do any more work for us. We were ok with their extremely high costs due to the favorable reviews they have but after dealing with them I would advise doing your homework before using this company. We will be filing a complaint with the BBB also. read more

On March 5, 2025, my sewer was draining slowly. I called Mr. Rooter Plumbing of Syracuse, and a technician named John W. came. He charged me $74 and said the main sewer trap by the street needed to be dug up and replaced. He gave me two quotes: $7,211 to replace just the trap, or $12,510 to replace the trap and the pipe to my house. He mentioned other plumbers would charge $241 just to pull the drain snake off the truck, but he'd try a quick check with the snake down the ventilation pipe. I provided power outside, and he briefly tried the snake, complained how the kick back hurt his hand making his case stronger for his company to do the work I guess. I then got another quote for $13,000 based on John's diagnosis. None of these quotes included fixing the sidewalk afterwards. About a month later, my sewer almost completely stopped draining. I had to buy and use a portable camper toilet. Finally, on April 15th, I called Falso Services. Their plumber, Jeff, quickly found the real problem in the basement sewer pipe without needing to bring in equipment. He spent about two hours snaking the pipe from the toilet and cleared roots that were blocking it. He also gave me advice on how to prevent future root growth. Recently I had a clog in both my kitchen sink and my basement drain. They came out right away and quickly were able to clear both clogs.

I can always rely on Mr. Rooter to be there when I need them. My hot water tank failed last night I called them this morning and they got someone out first thing! I received a text asking to confirm my appointment and I did so. 10am came around and I called to see where they were. The woman said she called and no one answered. (A lie as I have had my phone next to me AND checked my call history.) She then canceled my appointment, I did take screenshots of my call history. I called Mr. Rooter for a minor basement drain backup. After working for about 45 minutes, the technician said he was unable to finish the job. He offered me 2 options to continue working that were extremely expensive and intrusive (1k flush or 5k digging up yard). After declining these and them leaving, we realized we just paid $366 and we were now left with a drain working worse than before. I have learned afterwards that any plumbing company worth their merit will advise potential clients to first look into whether their problem can be fixed by the town they live in for free. Not only did Mr. Rooter not tell us this, they lied to me. They're legally not allowed to work on the portion of pipe that belongs to the town. Mr. Rooter told me their equipment would only go about 45 feet from the house and would go no farther because of a big clog. (in actuality this is where the town portion begins). They lied, they tried to upsell me thousands of dollars worth of extra work, and left my house worse than before all for full price. I called them for a partially clogged sewer line that a tenant was complaining about when he ran the washer. I wanted it fixed right away so I called Mr rooter who was close and was able to come quickly...big mistake. The reason they're able to come out quickly is because they charge a kings ransom. The guy told me he "might" be able to clear the line from the street but it would be $250. I reluctantly agreed and guess what? It didn't work. So now I'm $250 in the hole and no better off. Then he suggests option 2...which was $500 more. The drain got cleaned out and I paid them, only to find out later the city would have done this for free! (Ya think they knew that?) When our main sewer line backed up into our basement we contacted Mr. Rooter around 8:30 on a Saturday night. They were caring, responsive and were able to schedule an appointment to come out the very next morning. They scheduled a window of time 10am-12pm on Sunday morning to come and I received a call at 9:30am informing me that they were on their way and would be there in 20 minutes. Nick Buck was extremely professional when he arrived and spent 2 hours outside our house trying to snake the clog out (in the rain) with a smile on his face and was very polite. Nick then shared we would need to have water jetting to clear out the clog and left to go get the equipment. He was back in 10 minutes and cleared the clog in no time. They were polite explained what the issues could be. They spent some time here to resolve the issue so thank you for your time and knowledge and ability to fix the problem. Bottom line the job seems to be fixed now. If I had one complaint about today it would be that we were told our toilet was a piece of junk. We paid a nice penny for that toilet and I did not appreciate our choice in a toilet being trashed. People buy what they can afford. I would consider using them again on a major plumbing issue. Let's face it: no one is ever happy about having to deal with or pay for the cost of this kind of service, but when it is handled properly and the transaction is the cleanest part of the job, do yourself a favor and call Mr. Rooter of Greater Syracuse. The two technicians, John and Zach, who came to our home to do the work, were professional and clean. They took the time to answer questions and share their findings as they proceeded. When I had a more in-depth question, they put me in contact with John Wayne, Manager via telephone, who was always made himself availabe. Before even starting the job, John insisted to my 90 year old mother, to allow him to speak with one of her children so that he could explain the job thoroughly so that there was no confusion or thought that an elderly was being taken advantage of! I mean, who does this? I applaud them. I was thoroughly impressed. When John and Zach left at the end of their long work day, our property was left in the best condition possible in light of all the work performed. This is saddening to me. I gave Mr. Rooter great reviews (5 Stars) for the service that was provided. I discovered 4 days later though....that they fooled me. When the technician arrived on site he informed me that there was a $170 charge to cut a hole to see what the issue may be. I said that I would cut the holes, and the technician informed me that I would not be charged that fee. When the technician left, he went through the invoice with me before I signed. He informed me that I was being charged for the parts, the labor, etc.. 4 days later upon reviewing the invoice on my own - without him scrolling through it quickly and telling me what was on it, I realized that I was indeed charged $170 for a hole to be cut. This was very frustrating, since that service was not provided, but still, a quick call to fix it and all will be good....or not. I placed a call to Mr. Rooter on a Monday and was told that the billing department would call me right back. Nothing. I called on Tuesday and was told that the "owner would be contacted about getting a refund." Nothing. I called back on Wednesday and was told an urgent message would be sent to the billing department and I would be called back. Nothing. It seems that when it comes to refunding your money, they are closed for business. As I stated, I had no issues with the service or professionalism provided on-site, I just find it royally disturbing that they don't tell you about something you were charged for, and then don't refund it later since the service was never actually provided. Be smarter than me - stay away. Update: I finally received a call back from Mr. Rooter 16 days after the initial service was provided. I did call 2 additional times and was able to discover that the owners were on vacation, and since they run the books, that is why I did not receive a call back. After speaking with somebody, I was informed that I will be refunded my money for the charge (after being asked "[my] side of the story." The technician left a few parts out of his version, but I was able to fill in the blanks and was told a check would be mailed out to me for a refund. This will be 2 stars until the check in received. I may move it to 3 stars, but am a little bit unsure since the technician was so sneaky and then I was asked 'my version' of what happened. Seems a bit unprofessional to me. read more

I am a commercial customer. I've use Mr. Rooter multiple times in the past and I'm finally fed up. I always request to have the first appointment of the day so it is to not disrupt my business. They are SO bad at communicating with the driver about appointment times. The driver basically just decides when they are going to show up or sometimes NOT show up. The dispatcher will call me to tell me the driver is on route so I will go and meet them at my location ONLY to wait for 2 hours for a no show. The driver eventually calls to reschedule and the cycle continues. Nobody has time to wait around for hours on multiple days on a plumber to show up. When I call the girls on the phone are apologetic but at the end of the day, how far does a sorry go when you hear it 100 times? I wouldn't be as upset if I didn't get the calls telling the driver is on route. Mr. Rooter, I hope you see my review and fix this. I have used Mr. Rooter in the past because of their friendly and professional service (5 stars worht), despite their cost being a little high. Until today. It seems that one of their plumbers didn't appropriately connect two pipes and they're dripping. I call because my basement is covered in water and their "emergency" service can't be here for two days. That is NOT what I call emergency service - for a mistake THEY made. The call center was very friendly and apologetic for the fact that my pipe was still leaking, but they only have one guy on call for emergency service. Friendly just doesn't take care of my flooded basement or the stuff that got ruined, including the wall to a finished basement. read more

We had a clogged sink drain on Friday afternoon. We called another local plumbing company who confirmed they would come the next morning (Saturday). Long story short, the other company did not show up and told us they had scheduled the appointment in error. I didn't know this until late Saturday afternoon. We called Mr. Rooter and they promptly sent a plumber to our home the next day (Sunday) morning. He was here for a while and did a great job. He explained what the issue was. Since my husband was terminally ill I had to find someone to repair my clogged sewer. On 4/21/2017 I paid Mr. Rooter $258+ to clean and inspect my sewer line that was backing up into the utility tub. They gave me a cost estimate and scope of work to perform a sewer trap replacement for $3,890. I paid them $1,500 and entered into a contract. They began on 4/25. They pointed out the lateral pipe coming out of my basement and they worked all day but, at EOD they said it would cost more to complete because of water and soil issues. They filled the hole. Next day they asked for an additional $5,750. I felt I had no choice but to agree. They re-dug the hole that they filled the previous day damaging the driveway and sidewalk and claimed they could not locate the sewer pipe they had showed me previously. To complete the job they would return the following day, install a hanging sewer system and hook it up to the main sewer line for an additional $9,709 -- promised completion 4/27. We are now over $20,000. They arrived on 4/27 and again re-dug the hole they filled the previous day and installed a hanging sewer system along the inside basement wall but did not connect it to the main sewer system. At this point the hole was as big as my entire front yard and soil was collapsing, compromising the foundation and clogging the main sewer system. At this point the Village of Minoa confronted Mr. Rooter employees who admitted they could not perform the work. The Village shut them down and ordered them off the site due to incompetence. The Village finished the work themselves on May 4. I was left with sewer pipes hanging in basement, ruined driveway and sidewalk, totally destroyed front and side yard and a credit card bill of over $20,000 plus repair costs. I have spent 2 years of countless phone calls, letters and meetings trying to resolve this and have had absolutely no relief from Mr. Rooter Plumbing of Great Syracuse or their home office in Waco, Texas. Given the circumstances at the time, I felt I had no options, but I hope no one else is foolish enough to do business with this company!!!!!!! photos available read more

Mr. Rooter Saves the Day In this day and age of tight budgets getting a contractor of any kind is a guess especially when you start talking about specialties. I've written about the "private" sewer which our block owns and the frustration that we as neighbors had in finding solutions to a growing problem. The gas episodes had become so bad that my dog covered his nose with his paws looking up at me as if to say, "When are you going to handle this, it smells bad in here, Ken." (That's how Spike talks in my imagination.) One of my neighbors immediately photo shopped a plan to move the "private" sewer line from the back yards into the street and move our sewer lines to the front similar to what 99% of Syracuse property owners live with. Then same neighbor hired a "plumber" who attempted to "snake" the line only to have the tip break off in the causing the problem to become even worse. My stand pipe outside began belching and vomiting like a sewage infested Mount St. Helens. When contacted the plumber from the phone book said, "it (the gizmo) broke off in the pipe, that's not my problem talk to your neighbor he paid for it. You're going to have to dig it up to clear the line" The city said, "get a plumber" O.K. we've already had a plumber and now we have a gizmo stuck in the pipe. I had to do something -whining to city wasn't going to solve this growing problem and I had no time to wait for a "legal interpretation" of what owning a private sewer entails. As a fan of Undercover Boss I remembered the episode where Mr. Rooter's Chief Executive went undercover I was so impressed by the show that I made mental note, "if I ever need a plumber this company is the first one I'd call". I called Mr. Rooter on Erie Boulevard W. a technician came to the house and gave a FREE estimate as to what they would do to try to clear our collectively owned main line. Mr. Rooter's people called and informed me that they we're ready to begin the water jet procedure. After the jetting they'd run a camera through the line and you can see what's going on in your pipes, It's like a colonoscopy for your sewer. When they arrived one of the two technicians said, "I remember this block, the cleanout is over there" as he pointed to a home two doors down from mine. He continued, "The line extends to the east" as he walked me around the corner showing me where the city had come through and marked each line where it enters the publically maintained sewer system. He recalled the houses and who lived in them and how he'd been here 10 years ago. After jetting the system they ran a camera through and found the entire cast of the T.V. mini-series Roots. Like watching a medical procedure I could see the instrument work its way through the block to beneath the empty lot next door. He then took a device and traced the camera to the blockage as we came closer the beeping became louder and louder. The blockage is now cleared (temporarily because roots will just continue to catch things) but we now have a clear running system the immediate problem is solved. Mr. Rooter will now give us an estimate as to our options and costs to prevent this from reoccurring. Not many plumbers will leave the shop without a guarantee of some cash when they get to your location. Mr. Rooter enabled us to set a plan of action and solve the problem without direct assistance from the D.P.W. we had to do it ourselves. If it weren't for Mr. Rooter we'd still be choking on the stench of our own sewage. read more

This was the second time I used Mr Rooter for unplugging a sewer line. Let me start with the good. I called them again because the service was good the first time around. The technicians are professional, empathetic your situation and take care of the problem quickly. The bad news is sticker shock. For a couple reasons: 1) You cannot get a price quote over the phone even though you are left with the impression once on site there is a set pricing schedule. You are told the technican will discuss pricing once onsite. You can't even get a ballpark figure over the phone. 2) There is an expectation that you have to wait. In my case the technician showed up in a very reasonable amount of time. 3) It is now, when you have help on site, that you are told the price. You are less likely to turn them away because you may not get another vendor for hours. The consumer is passively held hostage! 4) The Web sites for corporate and the local franchise (?) have the language "no overtime charges." This is not true. For responses after 8:00 PM there is an additional $129 fee. I was told about this fee on the phone and it was something I was to discuss with the owner. 5. Total price for this visit was $320. Not bad [insert sarcastic tone here] for a 30 minute drive to my service call and 30 minutes of work! I own the wrong type of business. I did not call the owner about the extra fee. I was pleased with the professionalism and service provided by the technician. I am not happy with the passive hostage taking over price because you have to wait until they are onsite. And equally not pleased with a $129 fee that appears to be in conflict with policy on the company Web site. I will compete the price in the future. I will consider including Mr Rooter in the competition since I already know the price. Edited review: Mr Rooter did follow up the service call with a telephone based survey. I expressed my concerns about the $129 fee of which they were aware. I was told the company is working on fixing the Web site which indicates they understand their advertising of "no overtime" is false. I did not receive any indication that they would fix charging me the fee as advertised. Disappointing. I had this at three stars but have since reduced it to two stars. The company appears to recognize the discrepancy but still make the customer pay. Edited update 2: The local Service Manager has reached out to me and offered a reasonable explanation as to why pricing is normally not provided upfront. Dispatcher does not know what repair will be while the technician can truly assess the situation and provide a better price for the service required. They have also offered to refund the extra charge for emergency service. I feel better about my experience and have raised this to four stars. While I will still compete my future needs I am very happy with Mr Rooter's customer care approach which adds to the positive experience. read more

They get the job done. My wallet is thinner now but they try to give you the best price that they can. I would recommend them very highly.
