Providing proof of insurance was one of the first things we requested before hiring him, but despite numerous requests, he never provided it. We then fired him. We were told the roof would be completed in 3-4 days by a small, experienced crew. Instead, the project dragged on for nearly three weeks and was still unfinished. We were also told that plywood would be used, not OSB, that Owens Corning shingles would be installed, and that our newer gutters would be removed to prevent damage. None of those proved to be accurate. We came home one day to find a worker sleeping on our roof and, on other occasions, sleeping in the supply truck. Workers, including Ed, stepped in and on our gutters, causing damage. Ed also stepped through our ceiling multiple times, leaving large holes and debris throughout our home. The roof was left exposed during rainstorms, resulting in water intrusion and damage throughout our house. The work that was done was defective and we had to start over with another roofer and pay an additional $7,000 beyond the cost of the roof to correct the mistakes made. After admitting he did not have insurance, Ed signed a promissory note agreeing to pay for repairs. To date, he has paid only $1,520 and has not responded to us or returned our attorney's call. He did not return any of the money we paid him. Throughout the project, there were conflicting statements regarding insurance coverage, including references to using his son's insurance. We made it clear that we expected proper insurance coverage and truthful information at all times. Homeowners should thoroughly verify insurance coverage, licensing, and references before hiring this company. When I stopped home during the day to check the progress I noticed spare rib bones in the driveway and in the grass. When I went back after the dumpster was gone there was still a couple bones in the grass. I went to mow the lawn and there were about 15 thick plastic clamps that were left in the grass by the side of my garage. I came very close to mowing over them. There were about 10 more in my backyard by my pool, which I again almost mowed over. About 10 pavers that outline my front landscaping were knocked out of place and not put back and a ceramic planter was moved and not put back in place either. I sent in pictures and received a phone call. I was informed that my dumpster was denied because there was a recliner in it. I was told that my neighbor had one in his front yard across the street. I went over to ask him about it and he said one of the workers actually helped him put it in. He then showed me his ring camera footage which backed up what he said. I called back and was told that their workers know to not do that. In the meantime I found several nails in the back yard. I mentioned it during that call and was told that someone would come out and take a look all around the house. The gentleman that showed up spent all of 2 minutes, if that, and looked around the front of my house but never even went into the back yard.

That being said, they're not overpriced either. They are also extremely efficient. I just had a complete tear off that they completed in half a day. Vanderhoof came in with a swat team of capable roofers, and worked like a band of Army Engineers. They tore off DECADES of badly done roof work, layer after layer after layer. (What a mess of construction debris!) At the end of every work day, they left our yard immaculate. Then they built, and built, and restructured, and redesigned. (Flat roofs need expert attention). The work took a bit longer than they estimated due to the amazing number of layers to be removed, and their painstaking rebuilding process - but the Syracuse weather cooperated *(!!) and the work finished yesterday and it looks fantastic! Very friendly admin on phone, she made me feel comfortable as this is "what they do in the off season", roof repairs. Well, "Rick" came right out, climbed up into my crawl space attic (not an easy feat) took a few pix, assessed the situation and identified the problem immediately. He not only advised me what the issue was but made a short term fix (For Free) that he said would last several months or more if I decided not to go with the long term solution at this time. He left and I got the quote same day. I was very grateful for the short term fix and I decided to go with the long-term solution anyway. I left it up to them when they wanted to come back and do it and they said they'd give me a call. A couple of days go by and Rick stopped by with another person during a snowstorm. He said no big deal that's what we do. Two hours later I have the correction in place w/pictures that will last me another 50 years and I couldn't be happier. UPDATE: As of 2/9/26 Melo has reached out and has begun the remediation process to make this right…read more Our warranty has also been reinstated. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- We hired Melo to install a new roof in mid-2025, including an extended water membrane to prevent leaks from snow melt and ice dams. Within the first winter, melting snow caused a leak. A private contractor identified compromised rear siding, so we scheduled siding replacement. To be safe, we also submitted a warranty service request with Melo and clearly told everyone involved that no one was to touch the roof because it was under warranty. After the siding work, photos showed the roof's new drip edge was unsecured in multiple spots... on a roof only months old. Before even inspecting the roof, they tried to tell us over the phone there was "probably a structural issue with the home". This was not the case. Melo inspected the roof, made some repairs to the drip edge and "loose shingles" (already??), and then abruptly told us the entire warranty was void. Their reason was an unproven claim that our new contractor "removed an ice dam." This never happened. There was no ice dam, no roof work done, and Melo could not provide a name or proof that someone "told them" this. We repeatedly asked for a supervisor and received no calls. With ongoing leaks and no support, we were forced to pay another contractor to replace the drip edge, which resolved the issue. It was clear from the get go that they were looking for a reason to void our warranty. After talking to several community members it is clear Melo is known for doing this to customers.

I said I was not interested in doing business with them and she said in a huff that was fine as they were busy. Since when for an investment of that price a consumer should not procure many estimates and look at the warranties other companies provide? Business is business and I do not favour the way the initial phone call transpired.

I hired this company to refinish the hardwood floors in my home, which are approximately 100 years…read moreold. Justin initially assured me that this would not be a problem. Unfortunately, my overall experience fell short of professional expectations. Initial Concerns On the first day, the owner arrived with an employee to begin work. After briefly applying wood filler for a few minutes, the owner informed me he had to leave. Before departing, he stuck out his hand without saying anything. I shook it which he didn't expect. he then told me he needed the cash. This rubbed me the wrong way. The remaining employee then attempted to connect equipment by pulling wires from two 20-amp breakers without using proper tools, despite my offer to check for a higher-amp breaker. This lack of care and preparation was concerning but I allowed work to proceed. Workmanship and Preparation No thorough inspection of the floor was conducted prior to sanding. Protruding nails were not set, and the floor was not vacuumed or swept before sanding began. When I raised the issue of nail setting, the worker dismissed the concern, stating "it'll be fine." The edging crew that arrived two days later displayed highly unprofessional behavior. One worker shouted profanities loud enough to be heard throughout the neighborhood. Their work caused significant collateral damage, including scuffs and gouges on freshly painted drywall, dents in metal corner beads, a 4-inch hole in the wall, and numerous dirty handprints. Finish Quality While the floors initially looked good before staining and polyurethane, the final product was unsatisfactory. There appeared to be little or no vacuuming between coats, resulting in debris embedded in the finish. When I raised concerns, this was blamed on the lack of heat in the house--though this explanation did not account for the poor preparation and cleanliness. Additionally, the sanding work left extensive waviness throughout the floors, significantly diminishing the overall appearance. Resolution The owner acknowledged the large hole in the drywall and offered $100 off the total price. While appreciated, this did not address the broader issues with quality and professionalism. Areas for Improvement This company needs to significantly improve in the following areas: * Professionalism and communication with clients * Attention to detail and proper preparation before sanding * Care to prevent damage to walls, trim, and other surfaces * Improved sanding technique to avoid floor waviness * Thorough cleaning between stain and polyurethane applications Final Impression Justin was courteous, but based on my experience, I cannot recommend this company without significant improvements to its professionalism, workmanship, and quality control.

Very pleased. Got and estimate from Jason late in the season and he assured me that they would be able to do the job when others told me it wouldn't be until Spring. As promised they scheduled me in. I don't have a particularly large house but they showed up at 7:30 am and were done, cleaned up, and out by 1:00. Impressive! This included replacing 30+ sheets of plywood, replacing the HVAC vent and installing an exhaust vent from the bathroom fan as well as replacing the entire roof. They also, at my request, tacked up a small piece of siding that had come loose that I couldn't reach. Very thankful. Pricing was very reasonable based on other quotes I received. Installing these fans & lights required some electrical wiring. They were very professional, on time, cleaned up after they were finished, didn't slack off and made sure we were satisfied with their work.
