In late June my mother's water heater went out. We shopped around and came across King's Plumbing…read more We asked them to come give an estimate. We paid their $75 fee, believing they would be good to work with. This was based on their high reviews on Yelp. I was not able to be there when the tech came. It was just my retired mother. They told my mother the water pressure was too high and she would need additional repairs on top of the water heater. This included knocking out part of a wall. They gave a high estimate. She called me and I advised her to not have them do the work. Once I arrived at her home I checked the pressure. It was within reasonable range. The other repairs cited were not necessary. To me, it seemed like the tech was trying to take advantage of my mother, thinking she would not know any better. After this experience we wrote a negative review on Yelp. The tech came back to my mother's home, unannounced, and gave her $75 cash and told her to take the review down. This was very concerning to us and we were scared for her safety. We did not take the review down. But, we also did not edit the review to add these details in fear of retaliation. Time passed and we thought that would be the end of it. But on October 16th, the review was taken down by Yelp. We can only assume this was due to King's Plumbing requesting its removal. We are posting this new review because we believe King's Plumbing is manipulating reviews. People deserve to hear of our firsthand experience with this company. King's Plumbing is willing to do shady things to get new business. We highly recommend going with someone else for your plumbing work. TLDR: King's Plumbing practices shady business practices including taking advantage of vulnerable people and manipulating reviews. Avoid this company at all cost.

Look at all the other 1 star reviews for similar predatory prices…read more I have a simple shower valve replacement, the wall is already cut open in the room behind the shower. It's a matter of using wrenches to remove the old valve (4 pipes attached) and using wrenches and plumbers tape to put the new one on. Simple, but still not something I am confident enough to do myself (yet). Nixco sends a tech out, and quotes me over $1200. Let that sink in... $1200. No cutting, no drywall, should take maybe 30 minutes tops, unless some 'problem' is discovered. $1200 I think the tech knew as well, because as soon as I saw that, I chuckled and asked "What's involved in getting to that price?". He looked at the floor and quietly said "well, uh, that's just what the labor involved, uh..." I said, you can stop there, no thanks. I called Nixco just to half complain but also half give them a chance, like are you standing behind this quote? To which they gave me the typical "we'll pass it on to the service manager". I'm not using them again. I ran in to this kind of set up with Apollo. The quotes seem absurdly high, but also the tactics seem like that of old school used car salesmanship. He looks at the project, goes to his van for like 10 minutes, then comes back. He's likely calling in to someone that's guiding him on the price, and they are seeing what they can get away with. Or, and I'm just speculating here, the techs are getting some kind of commission on the overall price. There doesn't seem to be any drive to get the job done quick and efficient. I'm just scared for people that don't know any better that fall for this. I used Nixco on one other project, where the tech had to cut in to the wall, saw pipes, weld new pipes, and attach valves. So much more involved than this, and that job was under $900. he rationalized it to me that having to cut in to the drywall, cut/weld pipes, is more labor intensive and more complex, so I went with that. Compare to this job, which involves none of that, and it's $1200?! Don't use this company. ----- UPDATED ------ So, i'm responding to the response I got with the cost breakdown, and follow up from another local Cincinnati service below. "licensed and trained technicians": sure, goes in to the hourly rate, right? That's $400 per hour, correct? "quality materials designed for long-term reliability": what materials? Maybe a foot of copper and some solder? "proper installation methods (not temporary or shortcut fittings)": you charge extra for install things properly? what's a temporary install? duct tape? "warranty coverage": warranty on what? I bought the valve at another store, you're just installing it. if it's defective, that's not under your warranty is it? "insurance": sure, cost of doing business, but am i paying the whole monthly premium for this one job? "and the accountability of standing behind our work": Customers have to pay extra for this? How about, do a good job, and make people happy. If you made a mistake that requires follow up, do that, at no cost. Don't heavily pad the bill in case you make a mistake and have to fix it. FOLLOW UP on the project: I found Russell Plumbing Inc. (513-561-2804), and they were great. It wasn't an emergency, but they said it's a relatively small job, and could squeeze me in early. Came out about 830am the next day, done by around 1030am. $275. Nice people, didn't disappear in their truck for 20 minutes to work up a quote like a used-car salesman, got it installed, cleaned up, and moved on. Give them a call! I'll write them a great review as well.

I called due to flooding in my basement that appeared to be a blocked floor drain. The Mr. Rooter…read moretech agreed and called another tech with a camera. When drain was scoped broken pipe and trench rot found. They scoped cleanout outside house to city line and found 2 areas of pipe broken from roots and 2 broken w/o roots and areas of trench rot. Estimate for new inside (blocked by wall) and outside clean-out (not 2 way), and new pipe blown to city line was $29,800. I wrote check for 1/2 and financed 1/2. Next day I was presented bills for $4300 for inside work and $7200 for outside work. When I spoke to supervisor he put in new financing for entire $29K even though $15K check cleared my account. Work was completed inside and trench was dug. Even though rain was coming in I had to use my own tarps to cover trench with help from inside tech. The pipe was blown next day and inside work completed. I was given bill for $4300 for inside work and had to pay on credit card. The other $7k was going to be put for financing again. Still not sure if money paid was correct. They did not apply military discount when asked and was only going to put it on one invoice instead of the 3 they had for this job. However, they finally did. Trench was filled in poorly-about 5 inches not filled in from pipe to house and large mound of dirt left with my edging stones stacked neatly to side. The pipe sticks up about 9 inches from ground once I level out dirt myself and is in middle of flower bed not near house so it looks terrible. A hole was put in the wall on inside house which left of cleanout usable. I requested documentation for inside and outside. I have insurance policy for inside and outside. The invoice for trench and sewer pipe do not include any reason why work was needed so cant file for reimbursement of $7k. Requests for pictures or updated invoice ignored and calls not being returned. I wonder if work was necessary and feel cheated out of $26,000.
