Stopped by during week day lunch. No wait, two tablets were available to order. There was already a table ready by the time I was done ordering on the tablet. It seemed like this place is known for soup as most of the diners were eating that. They have condiments which are self serve. Rice portion is huge! I ordered a meat dish which didn't come with a lot of meat and was fatty. Maybe I ordered the wrong item and should've ordered the soup instead.
Easily one of my favorite Chinese places--we've been coming for three years now, ever since we've discovered the location. The signature beef sirloin and rice is braised in rich, beef infused oil. All the beef is extremely tender (in a good way). There is also some wood ear mushrooms that added some chewy texture, and does not taste too earthy/rubbery (what happens when not fully cooked). The dish is perfection. It was the first ever order from here, and remains my favorite. The rice was not too wet, and cooked throughly. A recurring issue with many Asian places is that when the rice is bulk cooked, it comes out uneven or too wet. Fortunately, this has never happened here. One thing to note is that the spiciness is downgraded by 1-2 levels. Mild spicy = no spicy. All the tables are well-spaced and extremely clean, despite the smaller, cozy setting. They were quick to deliver after ordering, and all the servers were extremely friendly and helpful! My brother forgot his jacket here and they chased us out, only to do so again when my friend's bag was also left. 3 entreès, one drink, and tip came out to be ~60$ with decent portions. We will definitely revisit in the coming years!!!
What a gem of a restaurant! The lady at the counter was so helpful. The shop is small and cozy, especially on a cold day. The kimchi hot pot was great! Lots of flavor. The tomato beef was okay. It was very mild. I wish I lived closer.
Stopped by Mr. Rice in Westwood today, 9/26/25 and had a great experience. The soup was delicious with really nice flavor, comforting and satisfying without being too heavy. What stood out just as much was the atmosphere; everyone was so friendly and welcoming, which made the meal even more enjoyable. It's the kind of place where you feel comfortable right away. I ordered the beef hotpot and opted out for noodles instead of rice. My friend ordered the kimchi soup and she really enjoyed her meal as well. They have plenty of tables inside for dine in. Ordering was a breeze on the tablet right at the front. What we really appreciated was the price point and generous portions. Definitely planning to come back and try more of the menu!

Good portion size, sour, and a variety of veggies and other ingredients. They also have two types of kimchi that you can get (self serve) which is nice. In the past, I've had other mixians, and a beef rice dish, and they were all similar in quality. The service is great. The place is clean, and it's a comforting spot. I definitely recommend trying it if you're nearby.
For parking, park in the Broxton Avenue public parking for free for 2 hours. Boyfriend took me to this place and ordered us the double chili fatty beef mixian. Pleasantly surprised by how good it was. It had somewhat of a szechuan taste due to the chili but not too overpowering, and the noodles and beef paired well with the broth. Free self-served kimchi and radish. Would go back again when I have the chance!
I really enjoyed the rice noodles--they're slippery with a nice bite, though they don't soak up much of the soup, so you'll need a spoon to get the full flavor with each bite. The broth itself is flavorful and well-balanced, with tomatoes adding a nice brightness to it. There's a good amount of ingredients to round out the dish. I especially liked the light-colored sauce they offer, which I believe is Szechuan pepper oil. It pairs perfectly with the hot soup, especially if you're into that tingly sensation. The service was fast, and the place has a cozy vibe.

There's lots of seating as it seems people like to usually do takeout here, and the food came out pretty quick. Everything is self-serve in terms of utensils and water. They have a pretty limited menu but everything is perfected and tastes really good. I tried the kimchi beef noodle soup and my friends got the tomato beef, all of them really rich and flavorful, plenty of protein and veggies, and the beef was really tender.
Tasty Yunnan noodles in Westwood! Yunnan noodles are kinda hard to come by in the US so this is a nice spot to have in LA. You first order through a kiosk and then sit down at the table. Water, utensils, and side dishes are self serve. They offer some condiments like chili oil, vinegar, soy sauce on each table. Service is very basic as they only bring you your bowl. Ambience could probably do with some background music. Now the food is really good. Noodles are very authentic and the broth is really great. I got the Double Chili Beef Noodles but I didn't really think it was that spicy. Prices are relatively cheap for Westwood but I've seen cheaper for Yunnan Noodles elsewhere. Very solid spot for food!

This is great for westwood! When I miss my mom's cooking, i'd definitely come here. The service is really good and they help you with even the self service bar. I recommend the soup I got but the noodles are just a tad too mushy. Also really generous with the meat that I couldn't finish it and I like how fatty it is. read more

~Food~ surprisingly good authentic Chinese food in West LA and for the value focus on the rice dishes, as they give a relatively huge amount of meat/protein, great value for the food quality noodle dishes are also tasty, though the meat is less for the price, but they do ensure the food has plenty of flavor (nothing boring) read the spice levels as you order, as they do not lie what i've tried: 1) Grandma's Dry Mixian, and there's sichuan peppercorn oil flavor (花椒油) infused with each bite 2) Braised Pork With Preserved Mustard Greens rice + meat, it's good (photo will speak for itself) 3) Original Milk Tea (no sugar) it tastes like black tea with milk and no sugar most of you bubble tea lovers probably wouldn't like my choice on this, but it seems ok enough ~Service~ nothing special / what you expect from a hole in the wall place / tip at order screen / probably not an expectation of a huge tip / self-service water ~Ambiance~ hole in the wall / tables close to each other / a tv playing sports on it / hot and uncomfortable in the summer / westwood village homeless dude with dreads in front (usually sitting at the left table outside), so avoid the tables with the air flow coming from the outside as there's either the westwood village stink (or it's stink from the kitchen?) ambiance is 1-2 stars, but the value for the food you get would be 5 stars, so i'll just leave this at 4 stars read more

All the beef is extremely tender (in a good way). There is also some wood ear mushrooms that added some chewy texture, and does not taste too earthy/rubbery (what happens when not fully cooked). A reliable place to eat! I always love how authentic the food is and it's so hard to find a place that specifically serves Mi xian. The place is mainly self serve and there are some side dishes that you can get at the front. Very casual vibes - a good place to go with friends for something in the middle of dining out and eating homecooked food. Service was average! read more

I'm a big fan of Mr Rice, and at least to my knowledge, there aren't too many restaurants of this same style in Los Angeles. I'm assuming this location is at least somewhat affiliated to the Rowland Heights location, which I used to eat at when I lived down in Fullerton. I'll say this location is not quite as good as the one in SGV, but I still very much enjoyed my meal here. If you're looking for some good Chinese food by UCLA, it will be hard to find much better. Go ahead and give this place a try. You will not be disappointed! read more
Wanted to get some soup on a rainy night in Westwood village before going to watch UCLA basketball. I would say it's authentic Asian food, because other customers and workers seemed to have English as a second language. My daughter had been wanting hot pot and wasn't disappointed. read more
We got the Pork and Tofu pot and Double Chili Fatty Beef Rice Noodle. The "medium spicy" of the noodle soup is quite spicy. The pork and tofu pot was flavorful, although they did not include any bok choy or enoki mushrooms per their description. read more
I used to get Mr. Rice sooooooo often, so when I was in the area recently I jumped at the chance to go again. While my favorite dish remained as delicious as ever, some other things fell short in my opinion. First of all, there is almost no service to speak of. Someone brings the food to you. That's all. You get your own utensils, sauces and herbs, water, napkins, even takeout containers. Perhaps it's because we came near closing time, but our waiter was also very brusque and would look irritated when we asked questions. Service was a miss for me here. The self serve area was kind of gross too. There were containers for hot sauce, cilantro, and something else I forget. There were little spills and it looked messy. The utensils also seemed poorly washed. With COVID still an ongoing issue, I feel like it isn't really hygienic to have customers get everything themselves. We got the double fatty beef chili rice noodle, and the tomato beef rice noodle along with the marinated pork ears, a cold dish. The chili rice noodle was my favorite back in the day and that remains true even now. Sour, spicy, greasy, this endlessly flavorful broth absolutely hits the spot! The tomato beef was a miss for me. I don't know why, but the broth tasted kind of floral and too sweet. Both these dishes come with a literal mountain of thinly sliced fatty beef. It will clog your arteries, but you will enjoy every bite! The cold pork ears were good: crunchy, spicy, and slightly numbing. The dine-in experience wasn't that good, but I would absolutely get the double fatty beef chili rice noodle as takeout. Honestly given the lack of service in-store, there wouldn't be a noticeable difference. read more

A small Chinese noodle restaurant that feels homey! SERVICE: 4/5 The service here is very quick. Right after I ordered on the order kiosk and sat down at the table, the server brought out my dish a couple minutes later! FOOD: 4/5 I ordered the Tomato Beef Rice Noodle which had a tomato base soup along with rice noodle, beef, quail egg, bok choy, wood ear mushroom, etc. The base soup was perfect. It had both tart and sweet flavors from the tomatoes which provide perfect contrast to the beef. I also enjoyed the different textures from the veggies - the bok choy and wood ear mushroom both had a bit of crunch to it. Overall, it was a very relaxing and homie meal and was still worth getting despite how hot it was outside. If you are craving for Chinese cuisine or just some comfort food, check out this place! read more

Went here on a whim and so glad we did. I'm not familiar enough with this cuisine to speak as an expert but it truly was delicious, served quickly, and was perfect to warm our bellies as the weather gets colder. We went for a couple of beef dishes--beef sirloin and double chili beef (spicy). The double chili wasn't your typical kind of spicy, it was like a more acidic type spice which I welcomed. Our tasty selections left me wanting to try the chicken dish as well next time. The vibe is casual, expect no-frills service but definitely stop by if you're considering it. read more

Yummy and authentic yunnan noodle soups! I love their tomato and beef one the most. I scooter off campus whenever I crave this spot and it's just so conveniently located at Broxton. Also the workers are super nice and treat you with such great care. I've ordered this both delivery and dine in and it's just SOO GOOD!! read more
Mr. Rice is a decent hot pot option if you are craving hot pot in the UCLA/Westwood area. I was slightly concerned about its authenticity from their name but that was assuaged as soon as we walked in to staff rapidly speaking Mandarin. It is not hot pot that I'm used to but still good and extremely filling with their generous portion size. The rice bowls were almost spilling over at the top! My friend and I both ordered the pork and tofu hot pot ($22.82 after tax and tip) which is alright given the area. I ordered mild spice which didn't taste spicy at all and my friend got medium which was too spicy for her. Straightforward ordering at their kiosk before we were promptly led by staff to a table and provided with water and utensils. The broth was flavorful and it is chock full of meats and veggies. It has a very homey taste and feel to it. Plenty of seating and we spent hours there eating and catching up about our winter break. I can see myself coming back to try their other menu options if I'm in the area and feeling hungry! read more
Have visited Mr Rice three times since they've opened. I was pleasantly surprised during my first visit when the flavors were super authentic and punched me in my ABC (American Born Chinese) face. I was surprised because I wasn't sure how these flavors and this business will survive in a more westernized area of Los Angeles like Westwood as opposed to the SGV. As I've visited a couple more times, I've noticed that the flavors in my dishes became more mellowed out (probably to better suit the neighborhood's palette). They specialize in Yunan mixian (thin rice noodles), but not crossing the bridge noodles (a popular Yunan dish). I would recommend getting the mixian with the broth, not the dry one. The broth adds extra flavor to the dish and has a better chance of the noodles absorbing the flavor than the dry dish can. I had the Grandma dry rice noodles and although I loved the texture of the noodles, the sauce that coated the dish just didn't permeate throughout. I wish they gave me more sauce so that I can thoroughly mix and coat all the noodles. I also tried some of their boba drinks. I was skeptical at first, but I was impressed! My favorite to get is the matcha with cheese foam. read more
