My love affair with Peabody's is the reason it took me over two months to buy a new clothes dryer. Mine broke and I went and dried my clothes next door to Peabody's and ran in for a quick bite and some drinks. 2 months later I kept putting off buying a dryer so I would have an excuse to go to Peabody's. Well who needs an excuse? Especially when Peabody's has a screaming cheap happy hour. $.50 street tacos? Drinks for $2.50. They have a killer margarita. Doesn't taste like that mixer crap that some places serve. I usually go and have a baked potato and sometimes a salad. Plenty of food for me. My hubby likes to go on Thursdays when he can get the prime rib special for $11.99. It comes with a loaded baked potato, veggies, and sautéed mushrooms. You can't really beat the deal. I hear they have live music most nights. I haven't been for that yet but now that I have a new dryer I need other reasons to visit. I have a feeling I'm going to be a regular. I have been wanting to try Mr. Peabody's based on the reviews I read about the food and especially the prime rib for some time; I drive by the complex frequently but have never just stopped in. Tonight was the night and what a wonderful and memorable dining experience. The food and service was simply amazing. My wife and I went to 5:30 pm Mass tonight and by the time we were finished and in the car, we were starving and she said she wanted Prime Rib. We discussed our usual venues, Bentley's, Bully's, etc., but we really didn't want to spend $50 to $75 for dinner. She had never heard of Mr. Peabody's, asked about the reviews and said okay. When we got there, . . . . . . . . . .all you see from the parking lot is a storefront that just looks like a bar, . . . . . and inside, . . . . . .it looks like a bar. She initially wanted me to check it out, but I said, "Come one, let's try it!" As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by the friendly waitresses who said we could sit anywhere, and quickly our waitress, Amber, came to the table. We both ordered the 10-oz Prime rib, . . . . .at an amazingly crazy price of $12.99. The meals came to our table, literally in ~5-10 mins; I was astounded by the speed of the food delivery. And, . . . . .when it was in front of me, . . . . . .I was speechless (in a good way)? I could not believe what I was seeing, for only $12.99. Prime ribs I have had for $25 or more were no better or generous in portions and presentation and flavor. It was an amazing, delicious, favorable, and memorable meal. The prime rib was PERFECT. The banked potato was loaded and absolutely PERFECT! The side of mushrooms and onions, served in a small bowl was PERFECT! The au jus was PERFECT! And the side of horseradish was PERFECT -- not too strong and very creamy. I was completely dumbfounded that anything this good could be bought for $12.99. I was (and still am) so full, . . . . . . . . . .two hours after dinner. Our server, Amber, was exceptional, attentive and very helpful! My only regret, . . . . . I was too full to try the mud pie! I've come here more than once hoping every time it might get better and the service is worse and worse. The friendly, but super inattentive bartender with short blonde hair gave me one drink and never came back. Seemed like she couldn't figure out how to cut convos with the regulars in there. Never asked if I wanted food or another drink and I would have had both. Sucks cause I like this place but just can't justify giving them my business anymore. Signed, Disappointment. read more

First off, I have been coming to Peabody's for years and it used to be better. But make no mistake, they still have deals during their happy hour times for decent food. (In a nutshell it's $5 tacos and nearly $5 for inconsistent Bloody Marys and "Manmosas" until 2PM daily. Hnd then at 3PM, they have other well drinks specials for about the same price and bar food...the fish tacos are actually pretty damn good!) However, be warned that no modifications is the rule now. Also, your service will take a while and sometimes a very long time because they deal with volume. So if you're cool with day drinking deals (that have recently gone up in price) and decent food and service, then go and enjoy the location near the coast. Also, the bathrooms are sometimes VERY gross, but please tip your server still. The management is not her fault. You go for a deal, please be a good human. Cheers read more

Update: showed up yesterday around 6:00 pm and waited at the hostess stand. I was passed by several servers- nobody ever acknowledged my presence whatsoever. Five minutes goes by. In standing there. Ten minutes. Nothing. Chef in back notices, but front of house staff do not. Blond waitress with longer wavy hair checks her cell phone. Still no acknowledgement. I'm not small. I was right at the stand/front door. It was not very busy. WTF!?!? We ended up walking away. It will be a while before we go back- there are way too many options around town for that kind of horrible service. read more

Was there today at around 3pm music was so loud decided to have a beer and eat somewhere else asked the waitress (Jennifer) I think but nothing she could do talked to bartender she said the guys at the bar paid for the music and refused to turn the volume down so we didn't stay to eat and just thought you should know read more

The place is a sports bar with enough to allow you to stay in touch with whatever game you're coming in to watch. Just be sure you know what kind of beer you want before you go in. God forbid you want a one ounce pour to try something new. The buffalo chicken salad was ok but the wings were definitely subpar. Nice waitress but, I don't think I'll be back. read more

She saw me and my husband and I and took a while to even greet us; when she did she was very rude and as a Hispanic lady I felt she was being racist. She's a brunette with bangs. Come here for the $20 prime rib dinner with sautéed mushrooms or seasonal vegetables and choice of potato. The best deal in town for decent tasting prime rib that is covered in au jus. You can ask for separate horse radish in addition to the creamy horseradish sauce that they serve it with. Happy hour drinks until 6pm with $3.75 house wine and well cocktails. Love Peabodys. Been going here for 25 years on and off. Totally consistent, great staff, nice people. Gotta love their live music!!! My husband and I grabbed dinner here the other night after reading the review about it in the San Diego Reader. It was way nicer than we anticipated! We honestly thought it would be a lot more divey. And the crowd was a little older, which we actually enjoyed. It was nice going to a bar and not being surrounded by a ton of people that are out of control. We arrived in time for happy hour and both tried fish tacos, ribs, and wings. All were good, but the ribs were amazing! And an amazing deal at 75 cents each?! They also have $3 Budweisers and Coors light during happy hour (and $3 wells and $3 cab or chard). The other non-happy hour food that came out looked great! The salads were huge! We are going to come back to try other items for sure. The service was great, and the atmosphere was nice. We will definitely come back if we are in the area. read more

My husband and I have coming here for over 3 years. It's absolutely the BEST place to get breakfast, have happy hour, or just enjoy a great meal. The food is excellent but the staff is eve better!!! I live just down the street from this restaurant and never had a good meal here we decided to try it again the food was horrible the service is worse I cannot believe the bad attitude these people display and they just don't care, You would think during these times they would try extra hard to win back business we try to support local business but this is one we just can't! I would read it the worst restaurant and service we've been to it in Encinitas and we've been here since the mid-70s. Worst of all instead of being helpful and responsive they are defensive and take no ownership over their bad food and poor service, After reading some of the other reviews I can see that managements response is always blaming the customer and never taking any action read more

The bartender was great and served solid drinks. The patrons were all having a great time and the bar was packed. The live band was rocking. There is currently a petition going around to allow dancing. I cannot wait for the city to approve this because the musical line up at Peabody's looks amazing. I'm a dancer and look forward to being able to let loose without worry. We're new to the area and have been searching for our "second home" bar. It looks like we may have found it. Looking forward to checking out all the live bands and looking forward to making new friends. read more

This was the second time that I had eaten at Mr.Peabody's and I was every bit as pleasantly surprised as the first time.Hands down the best happy hour around!2 fish tacos for $2.75!And this isn't talapia like many other places have.Nice thick white cod and drink prices are very reasonable.We noticed families taking advantage of the happy hour deals.Lots of tvs and some great music at times.Service was good. On a mini vacation from LA trying to get some fresh air we headed out the SD county. We decided to stop by to grab a drink ended up grabbing lunch.Hands down the best burger I've had in a long time. The meat was so big & juicy. Who knew something so simple could be so delicious. The prim rib sandwich was spectacular. Anyone in the are either local or just passing by must stop by. Seasoned well with a good balance of poke to crunchy veggies (onions and cucumbers). The spicy was not overbearing at all. If they had this as a nacho and not just tostada I think it'd be popular among guests. The drink sections were also extensive to cater to alcoholic and non alcoholic options. We popped in for dinner at about 6:00 pm. It was crowded. We were able to find a few spots the bar, then moved to a table. It has a beachy bar vibe. Service was okay. The food came out price by piece. It was about 15 minutes in between the first item arriving and the last. I had the patty melt which was pretty good and some sort of loaded fries with Carnitas on it. Those were pretty good. Over all, an average experience.

We were hoping to celebrate my birthday at this place just to see it be absolutely ruined by this lady Meilani. Sad to say I cannot and will not recommend this restaurant to anyone because of this individual.

And our server was fantastic. So why, you might ask, only 4 stars in my review. Two reasons: 1). Management has prohibited giving a splash of a beer for someone to sample. Bottom line is that I wanted to order a pint of beer, but I wanted a splash of a couple of beers to try to make my decision. They refused, saying that one must buy a 5oz taster if one wants to taste the beer. I find that policy offensive. In the end I bought a taster to taste the Chuuurch, and then bought an additional pint after. It just seems nickel and dimey, and would be asking to an ice cream place not allowing one to sample their ice creams before buying a cone. I hope management reconsiders this policy. 2. My wife got the Hot Mess Fries and was disappointed not only in the flavor, but also in the misleading advertising. On the menu it specifically said that there was bacon in the fries, but in fact what they put on the fries was either chunks of ham or "Canadian bacon" (which as we all know is a very different thing from "bacon"). If they were or of regular bacon, the kitchen should have told the server this so he could have asked her if she wanted ham as a substitute. And, of they always use ham instead of bacon, them the menu needs to be changed to reflect that.
