I haven't worn braids in several years and had the luxury of having a friend braid my hair when needed until she moved out of state. I found myself looking for a new place to get my hair braided. Friends recommended several people and places, but I settled on Mr. Naturalz. It was local and I'd walked by it many times, but didn't realize they also offered braiding service. What I liked is that their prices were listed up front and stated what was included. I loved that the price included a wash/dry as a lot braiders I contacted did not not offer this. The shop has a low key, friendly vibe. Very clean, great artwork. Everyone was welcoming. My appointment was with Eka and she was amazing. On time, friendly and she got busy! My appointment was at 9:00 and I was out of there around 12:45. I was very happy with the end result and booked my next appointment before I left. I highly recommend Eka if you are looking to get your hair braided. She is quick, professional and has a really open personality which makes for great conversation. I recently visited Mr Naturalz for the first time. I had my own products for the wash and requested a retwist. I had several locks that needed to be repaired. 2 weeks later every loc that was repaired fell out, and my hair looks worse than it did before the appointment. My 8 year old daughter was seen a little over a month ago at this salon. They let an incompetent man, who never introduced himself to me or my child cut my kids hair off while the owner Rueben was at the front desk and watched it happen. When I asked Rueben to make it right he seemed put out and tried to have the original man re-do it. I told him I was uncomfortable and Rueben finally fixed it. Rueben agreed it wasn't what was discussed with him prior to the cut. At check out, he tried to make it seem like he made it better by not charging me the 20% that remained after my deposit. I happened to have another appointment the next day for my other daughter. I was approached by 2 other artists who were concerned I was having this man (who I still don't know his name because he never introduced himself) cut my other daughters hair. Lucky he was only doing her take down. I started asking questions and it became apparent that this man either sabotaged my daughters hair or he doesn't have a license. Reuben, it was so bad your employees texted each other about the hair cut situation and were appalled that you allowed this to happen. So you either have someone who is willing to give a terrible haircut to an innocent child because they don't like their parents or someone who has zero cutting skills and has absolutely no business being in a salon. My kids were in the foster system, I'm used to having to fight for them. Shame on you for being the person I have to fight against. read more

I scheduled an instantloc install with Ita after several recommendations from friends. She was booked solid so I had to schedule out a couple months but no big deal since it gave my hair some time to grow a bit more (and save up some $$$). My appointment was her only one that day and she worked her butt off from 9am to almost 6pm and she absolutely KILLED it. My locs are tight, consistent in size, sturdy, the parting was EXACTLY what I wanted, and I left extremely happy with the finished product. Even with the long appointment time Ita did not cut any corners and made sure to give me the full meal deal, and even though we went over time a little bit she honored the original price given at consultation. I really enjoyed my experience at Mr. Naturalz. The vibe in the salon was super laid back but they also maintained professionalism without giving off a pretentious vibe. It felt like getting my hair done at a cousin's house. I'm coming back for maintenance in 6 weeks and I'm looking forward to seeing my new friends again! read more

Come to Mr. Naturalz Salon first. I started locs 3 weeks ago. And went to another salon to do it as I live in Everett. I was told that I could not start my locs with comb coils. I trust my stylist and went with it. My stylist told me to not wash my locs for six months? What? That doesn't sound right. Encouraged by my bff to just get a second opinion and by a random stranger I called Mr. Naturalz and got in. Ika interlocked & palm rolled my hair. Sat my under the dryer and styled it in under 2 hours. Did you hear what I said? I went for the first time to have my locs washed and retwisted. My stylist/loctician was Ita pronounced Ika. She did exactly what I asked. I'm very pleased with my hair. I just wanted a wash and retwist but no style. She was kind enough to fix my parts cuz they were jacked up. I try to wash and retwist my own hair and I never get it to look like this. I'm so appreciative. Now it's not cheap to have locs so starting price is on their website. I did give a 20% tip because I knew my hair was a jungle. I like Ita's approach, not too talkative and she got it done. She fit my personality and that's important. I'm 50 YO and I talk all day so chatting a lot is not my bag. I can sense her confidence with my hair so I didn't need to say much but apologize for the hard work she's going to do. I do plan on returning but I can't come every 4-6 weeks but maybe every two months or longer as long as I'm in the state. I prefer a look that doesn't show my scalp. These reviews are clearly inflated. This is the most disgusting business I have ever dealt with. They run late by several hours. They do shoddy work. They gleefully take your money and let you walk out looking worse than you came in. And to top it all off, they committed credit card fraud and charged me months later for a service that I never received. Save yourself the trouble and the money and never mess with this business. I'll be taking my woes with this company to the Better Business Bureau. Oh, forgot to mention that they called me at the last minute to switch my stylist for my appointment because the original stylist (the owner, Rueben who let me walk out looking ridiculous) was apparently not accepting new clients even though his schedule was available to book. The only positive thing to come from this experience is my new professional and absolutely lovely loctician that I only tried elsewhere after my run in with this horrible "business". Me & another client waited outside for like 15 could've been 20 mins but I don't want to exaggerate before anyone showed up. I also want to add that I rode the bus over an hr to get to the appointment. So the receptionist showed up first. No hello no sorry didn't tell either one of us like Hey your stylist is on their way. Ok so we waiting maybe like another 5 mins or so. The first stylist showed up for the other person that was there. It was apparent he was a regular from the conversation I heard them having. After another min or two here comes my stylist. I should also add I initially made my appointment for 9:30 & they asked if I could come at 9 because of the services I asked for. No hello no apology just got started ok cool. I got this package deal which was 165 plus an add on service & left a $10 tip. I paid a total of $210. She washed my hair I got a deep condition a hot oil treatment and interloc & maintenance. After she was finish interlocing my hair. She only palm rolled the top of my hair. She didn't add any product to it. Usually when you about to go under the dryer to finish. Stylist out something in your hair & wrap it up so it lays down. She didn't do that. I also had two locs in the back that had grown together. Like they're flat & don't look like the rest of my locs. She didn't even fix it just interlocked it like it was ok. I wouldn't be complaining but the amount of money it costs I expect a better job. Not only that if I would've been late or cancelled there would've been a fee. It's just wild that I didn't get the proper service because my stylists was late. And this was my first time like seems like you would want to make a good impression. There was a male stylist that came in. He seemed to be in time for his client. He was nice he came in spoke to his co workers. Even though they barely spoke back. My coat was in his chair. He took it hung it up for me. I mean my stylist didn't even offer. I also watched him while I was under the dryer & I wish he was the one doing my hair. My first-time client review: I walked in 10mins before the appointment, which was at 11:45 am, and was greeted by a receptionist. Had waited for 15mins and was told by the receptionist my stylist would be with me at 10mins. While observing, the salon was clean, and music was playing. I was seen at noon and was greeted by Merline. She was very knowledgeable and walked me through her steps. She also educated me on how to take better care of my locs. I loved the studio's standing mirrors bolted to the floor per seat. I've never seen anything like that before. It was nice because it allowed me to watch the process. Everyone was professional and friendly. The atmosphere was relaxed and had a good vibe. For me, this is a big thing because most black hair stylists/salons that I've been to have been unprofessional. If I have an appointment and arrive 10mins prior, I should not have to wait 45mins because you need to eat. It's ridiculous and rude! I also enjoyed the tactfulness of all of the stylists. In the past, I have seen stylists "clown" their clients and make them feel bad if they weren't taking care of their hair correctly. This causes embarrassment and can make the client feel insecure about their hair. Our hair is our crowns, and for someone from the same community to shame someone is uncalled for. Mr. Natural salon was not the case. Instead of jumping to conclusions, they provide helpful feedback on how to take care of your hair. Since this is my first set of locs, the education, including tips, was beneficial. It makes me feel good that I found a BIPOC salon that only focuses on providing healthy hair service for natural hair. I went in yesterday to get my first set of high top locs and my loctician did an amazing job, I love how it looks already. I have a very dry scalp and I've never been able to help that but looking at it now it's never been so hydrated and clean. Recently went in for a first-time color. The stylist Lyric drastically messed up my hair color 3 different times and unnecessarily bleached it. I was very kind and patient throughout the whole process but at this point the Manager Rubin had decided to cut his losses with all the money they had to invest to try to fix my hair and told me that I had chosen the hair color they messed up and if I didn't like it, I would have to pay. At this point my hair had been processed 5 different times, I had spent 8 hours at the shop 3x because the style was not sure of what she was doing, and she was taking clients in between me. I expressed to him my frustration, communicated with him my lack of trust in their ability to give me the color I was asking for and told him the least they could do was dye my hair back to its natural color. He refused. I asked for a full report of everything that was done to my hair to take to another stylist in hopes to safely get my hair fixed (which I did). A couple of days later I received a text from the salon saying that he had talked to the other manager and would waive the labor fee, but I would still have to pay the cost of the color. Now why in the world would I not only let them attempt to dye my hair again but also pay for their mistakes? To the owners and stylist Lyric of Mr.Naturalz shop, take more pride in your work. If you messed up, FIX IT no matter how much money it takes to do so. And to anyone thinking of getting a color treatment from this salon, DO NOT. Thanks for reading. Great welcoming energy from the person at the front desk and the wash bowl. Once that person left my side, my experience went downhill. 1. The stylist was not communicative. When she took over my wash she never once communicated my hair health after she clearly assessed my hair. Get to the chair still nothing about my hair ( mind you I'm a new client). She only told me what products she was using on my hair (sometimes) and asked if I had any allergies inwhuch everyone did very often almost too often( I found that odd). She started on my hair but never consulted with me the style I wanted. I was thinking "what's happening, but let me let the expert do her thing let me trust her" well it was not getting better as she progressed. She put me under the dryer and took me out when my hair was still damp so the rollers didn't hold my curls as I'm transitioning from relaxed to natural and anyone can see to the naked yet . The most awkward experience I've had. 2. Charge- I go to check out and the stylist is standing at the door about to leave ( I'm the last client in the shop so it's just me the front desk person and the stylist) but didn't leave until I payed and didn't say thank you or bye just only talks to the front desk guy. I'm like this is weird. Back to the charge, I got charged an extra $20! Making my total I almost $150 and for what! I left out of there with my hair looking like Ceily from color purple( I had to laugh with my mom from not getting angry). But I was not happy! 3. Style- whenI get twist outs all the time I usually wear them to work one week and take it out the next, but I had to take them out the next morning because it was not wearable. The stylist didn't tuck my ends in or nothing! I took them out ( I had to roll the ends with rollers when I got home since I left there still damp and no curls) the next morning and was pleasantly surprised. I received many compliments but that was short lived. The twist out only lasted 2 days. Overall I will say that place has potential to be great, but there stylists need to be trained on communications skills, recognize new clients ( I mean don't y'all want new clients to come back?!?), and transparency with price. read more
