Have me options for my older vehicle and not just the obvious and most expensive. Did a great job!

I dropped in and they looked at my car very quickly. They needed to order a part from Subaru. Subaru said that it would be delivered on Wednesday so I scheduled the work for Wednesday morning. I dropped off the car bright and early on Wednesday and they said that they would call when it was ready. At noon, I called them because I hadn't heard anything. They hadn't started the repair because Subaru never delivered the part. Subaru was now saying the part would be delivered on Friday. So, Mr. Muffler said that they would call after they actually had the part on site. The part arrived on Friday and I was able to get the work done on Monday. On Monday, they did the work quickly and I haven't had any problems since. Moral of the story: if they need to order a part, wait to schedule your after they have the part on site in order to avoid an unnecessary trip. read more

For starters, the front desk person was very cold and unwelcoming, not to mention providing misleading info to force an inclusion of parts that would not be needed. The assessment of the vehicle was okay, but the pricing on the job just didn't add up. almost double the average price for a wheel bearing job. Then, when I said I could not afford their prices, proceded to berate me after the fact, for not being willing to pay their exorbitant prices. I thanked them for looking at the car, but I took the car to another place less than a quarter a mile down the road, and they were astounded at the price. In the end, I saved myself 300 dollars by going to an honest shop. Stay away from this place. read more

I had an issue with my exhaust system on Friday night and called them right at 8am on Saturday. I was more than surprised when my call was answered right away. I took my car in, and they put it on the hoist right away. Diagnosed the problem, gave me my options and fixed it promptly and efficiently. Sam did a great job both, on the car and in his customer service. I'll be bringing my car back there again for regular service. read more

Let me start off by saying that if you're like me, you dread taking a car to a dealership. Some don't mind, but that's not me - it's always the last resort (for me). Next, if your car needs repair...BRING IT TO MR. MUFFLER on Washtenaw in Ypsilanti. I wrote a review of Mr. Muffler a while ago. It was super-positive. This one's even better. Long story short (if possible) I once again asked for Sam, the mechanic, as he had been fantastic the first time I visited the shop. I hate going to dealerships, because dealerships are ostensibly a revenue stream for the O.E.M. Here's a fun fact about Sam: the guy is a degreed mechanical engineer. As an electrical engineer myself, I always like dealing with engineers as they have had that training. Now, I know full well that one can be a great mechanic without being a degreed engineer, but the truth is, the best mechanics have "mechanical minds", and being a mechanical engineer can only help. Sam's "the man" in my opinion. Anyway, I had two pretty major issues with my car, one of which sounded like an exhaust system rattle (where the hanger(s) hit the underside of the car), but I also had the ECM throw an error code for catalyst underperformance (which is bad news). I was hoping it was an O2 sensor but Sam explained that the error codes were not the O2 sensor. Bad news, but at least I knew what the problem wasn't. Anyway, the great thing about dealing with the people that run and work at Mr. Muffler is that they are fundamentally honest, charge more than fair rates, and are helpful. I ended up speaking with Sam a few times as he worked through the issues on the car; he explained my options with the catalytic converter (unfortunately it had been damaged, so a replacement was warranted). In fact, he had used a boroscope to look inside of the converter showing me where the "brick" in the catalyst had cracked, most likely allowing untreated gases past the catalyst and tripping the fault indicator. As far as the rattle, unfortunately that turned out to be a broken motor mount. I know in my heart of hearts that had this been done at a dealership it likely would have cost me a solid 35% more than it did. Maybe more. Here's the thing that I learned about that shop: I didn't realize how such a simple, nondescript repair shop could hide the expertise within. It's more than that though - Sam is trustworthy - some people you can just "read" and know if they're being honest or not. From that first service visit (with another car) I immediately got the vibe that he was a man that was to be trusted, and fearing this would be a very expensive repair I realized I needed to deal with someone I had met, but also someone who was and is honest. Ethics really matter to me, and dealing with people for whom ethics likewise matter is a real joy. Truly. No one likes paying big money for repairs. It's an awful surprise. That said, Sam did a bang-up job on the repairs. Absolutely first-rate service. I have already recommended one friend to said establishment, and I'll be writing posts on various social media sites echoing this review. If your car needs service, take it there. Seriously. I recommend these guys WITHOUT HESITATION OR RESERVATION. I love these guys, their honesty, quality of work, communication, and professionalism are all first-rate. read more

At this shop. Like last year I asked this guy with the speech impediment, about adding another cherry bomb muffler for a dual exhaust. He was about to charge me over 200 and some dollars. I found out that, at to other car repair shops. That my car won't be able to increase its performance with dual exhaust! It can be put on, the catch is my car is only made for single exhaust. These guys run a great shop. My car suddenly became extremely loud the othernight, and since Mr. Muffler is close to my house, I thought I'd give them a try. I pulled in there this morning at about 11:30am with no appointment, and with no wait at all, they put my car on the lift. About 5 minutes later, they called me into the garage to show me the problems. They quoted me a very reasonable rate, and when I agreed, they immediately got to work! Two mechanics worked on my car simultaneously, and I litterally had my car back in less than an hour after I walked in the door! They were very honest, very efficient, did an excellent job, and were very fair with what they charged me. I'm impressed with this place, and would recommend it to anybody! 5 stars, hands down! Just fyi, the building is a bit unassuming and easy to miss. They could use a bigger sign, but don't let that scare you away! They're right between the Golden Egg restaurant and the U-Haul place, so just turn in there! read more

I could not be more pleased with Mike and Mr Muffler. I took my car in late Saturday afternoon for a couple of items. I had called around for pricing on Thursday and Mr Muffler was recommended by Discount Tire. The price was unbeatable and even after adding a couple smaller jobs, it came out to over $100 LESS than I expected. Everyone I encountered was friendly and knowledgeable. Now, unless you yourself are a mechanic (or lucky enough to have one in the family), who doesn't totally stress out about car problems? Not only is it incredibly inconvenient when you are having car troubles, but it is often INCREDIBLY pricy. Mr. Muffler totally takes the stress factor out and, while repairs may still be costly, charges more than fair prices that are very often lower than all of the other quotes you're given. For me this is A++ service. On top of being very helpful and fully explaining what needed to be done on my vehicle the folks at Mr. Muffler did the job quickly even though I didn't have an appointment. When all was said and done they only did what was absolutely necessary and gave me a recommendation for follow up work that would need to be done soon. I appreciate that they didn't try to sell me on additional parts/services that I didn't need. Once you find a place like this you keep on coming back...I will definitely be a long time customer. read more

Update: Went back here for another problem with the heat shield on my muffler, this time it had fallen off completely and was rattling around, like they said it would. Lifted up the car and said they could re attach it if I wanted, but that it wasnt necessary. So I had them just pull it off by hand, for which they yet again said there was no charge. Friendly fast service even later in the day with no appointment. They could have charged me or taken my money by trying to push me to get it reattached. But they gave an honest assessment and saved me money by doing so. Will definitely come back for any future auto needs. read more

My son's 03 Avalanche blew a rear brake line out on his drive to Washtenaw Community College. He was able to limp it into the parking lot at school, where we had it towed to Mr. Muffler. They were able to get my son's Avalanche in for repair the same day and had it fixed and ready to go before he got out of class. They did not gouge knowing it was a rush repair as he was stuck 30 miles from home. Truck is running great again! The office/waiting area may not look like they spend a huge amount of concern on it, but who cares? They're there to repair cars and they do that well and at a fair price! read more

I happened to find this Mr Muffler in the area where I live on yelp. The folks in the shop are very friendly and they understood exactly what I need to get the work done on my car. They helped straightpiped my Corvette at a reasonable price. The work they did was amazing and I love the way it sounds now better than it had never sounded like before. Wouldn't go anywhere else. These guys have repeatedly passed the honesty test. In one instance I had my brakes checked at a very nearby competitor and was told I needed an entire brake job that would be in excess of $600 - and that was with a discount they were offering. Seemed fishy so I went across the street to Mr. Muffler. Turned out it was a $180 job. Been back many times and always happy. Can't beat the free inspection either. read more

Went yesterday to get a quote on a RAV4 exhaust replacement during my lunch hour. They got up on the rack took a look gave me price I agreed, owner took me back to work. This place is a 'diamond in the rough', for sure! My dealer recommended I go to this shop for work on a flex pipe, which is apparently a problem issue on Mercury Sables. They told me I would pay around a third of the price they would charge because dealerships have constraints in how they must do muffler work that jacks up the price. I think they were right..I paid $160 for the work at Mr Muffler which included an extra attachment for the pipe that Ford should have included on all sables due to the weight of the pipe. All of this was explained well by Brian, who I believe is the owner. He told me he is part of a franchise, but that the franchise gives him a lot of independence to do things the way he likes. The 'rough' part..very nondescript (look for the U Haul signs next door), in a neighborhood known more for cheap gas than natural beauty (I live nearby). Brian has plenty of competition from snazzier looking muffler places in the area. Dusting the waiting room is clearly not a priority. The broken air conditioner in the corner adds little to the decor. They are too small for a dedicated person to answer the phone, so you may have to call a few times before reaching them. I assume this is not a priority for those of us in the 99 percent who just want to get rid of the awful muffler noise in our cars with prompt and courteous service. If this is your goal you will not be disappointed. read more

I've been here for exhaust work and now front end work. The employees are honest and helpful. I stress to no end over car repair and these guys are lifesavers. They tell you what are the most important things to fix in order of importance/safety and don't overcharge on labor. My car is an older model with high mileage and I can't afford to replace it just yet so I really appreciate the honest information. I highly recommend Mr. Muffler! read more

I don't know why others gave 5 stars. When i called them for break pad replacement cost, he gave the cost of break pad and rotor replacement. When i said i need only break pad replacement cost, he said 'are you mechanic? you don't know if you need only pads or rotors too." Apparently, My Kia dealer told me that my break pads are good for next 1000 miles and i need to replace them during that time. so i started calling around for the quotes and this guy is ready to rip off the customer by replacing what is otherwise in a perfect condition. If you looking for a quick job, this is where you go. If you care about your car, avoid it like plague. Most horrible weld I have ever seen, broke a o2 sensor when install, they only do the time save way. Car have exhaust leak after a fresh installation of a brand new exhaust system. Went in today to figure out what exactly was wrong with a 2004 Malibu I am looking at purchasing (was told it needed a new muffler). After getting it on the lift Mike came back 5 minutes later brought me under the car to show me what the issue was, the flex pipe was broken. Was fixed in under 2 hours. Mike showed me the repairs then soon as it was off the lift then I was back on the road with a now much quieter car. Would recommend to others. read more

I went in thinking my exhaust manifold gasket was bad. The guys lifted my car and showed me my problem. The best fix was more than I could do so we discussed options. We ended up cutting and splicing fabricated pipe. The alternative was to go to my regular mechanic, Bob Graham from Graham Motor Werks in A2 and putting in all new parts. (BTW Bob is great and INCREDIBLY FAIR $) The parts alone were close to the cost of the fix we did. On top of that Bob said we could run into Oxygen sensor problems when we try to reuse them, as my car is pretty old. It just wasn't worth it. Bob and I discussed the fix that was proposed by Mr. Muffler's guys and he said the price was good ( I thought it was high, but I don't do this work for a living. It was a fair price in hind sight). I'm REALLY happy with the result. I forgot what a car is supposed to sound like. read more

The mechanic Brian is the reason i keep coming. He is super honest and fair with pricing. There are NO $20 in parts plus $200 in labor scams going on here. I got the CHEAPEST quote by far from here!! He even gave me a higher quality FLOWMASTER muffler that the other shops didnt include in their much higher quotes. This is the second car ive bought here and hands down it is the best Muffler shop in town when it comes to price, service, and products. I wouldnt go anywhere else but would definitely come when Brian is here to give my quote. read more

Have always trusted this place with my car, but recently took it in to have the catalytic converter replaced ($2,000) and was told that my front struts needed to be replaced ASAP to the tune of $700. After pricing out a few places, no one charged over $500 and the last place I took my car told me that they didn't need to be replaced at all, but my sway bar links are loose (a much less expensive fix). After taking my vehicles her for so long, I'm bummed, but hoping that this can serve as a warning to check around first! If you're looking for an alternative, try Ron's Garage in Ann Arbor. With the old owner this was my go-to place for any car work they do. I would recommend it to everyone. We were thrilled with their services and especially their pricing. But, now it is under new ownership. My dealership said I needed brakes... They quoted me $510 all in for the brakes. I called Mr. Muffler to double check... He quoted me $590. I'm so disappointed. I loved having a place I could go that didn't make me feel like I was getting ripped off. Gone are those days. read more
