The two times I came here I had the mac & cheese, and steak. Now im not saying all the food on the menu was bad, but the mac & cheese was so bland, it just tasted like nothing, and the the steak was so, so small it took me almost 10 minutes to eat. Went here for dinner after a long day of driving and it was totally adequate for dinner. It wasn't busy at all late on a Sunday night, and we were seated and quickly ordered. I got a plate of chicken tenders--pretty simple and they were totally fine. Nothing particularly good or bad about them, but they were certainly chicken tenders. My friend got fish and chips and felt similarly. Service was fine if not a bit slow especially given the lack of diners in the restaurant. I wouldn't be opposed to going back if in the area, but there isn't anything in particular that would make it something I would seek out again. read more

It has been some time since I have been to one of their restaurants but I am happy to say that I had a good experience today. Went for a business lunch meeting and had a very friendly and attentive server. Very professional and extremely polite. Things I really appreciate. I had a chicken club with house salad and vinaigrette and my associate had the grilled cheese with soup and salad. My chicken breast was a decent size and had some seasoning to up the flavor. They served it on a fresh bun with lettuce and tomato and ranch dressing instead of the usual mayo offering. It was cooked good so it wasn't dry either. My salad was really a nice surprise as it had a lot to offer for a side salad. Tomato's, cucumber, sunflower seeds I think and a nice spring mix of greens. My friends sandwich while basic had a nice amount of cheese so how do you complain about that! His soup was a tomato variety and was smooth and flavorful. His salad just a basic amount of green to accompany the rest of the meal and balance it out. Clean place and fairly busy. Our server was fantastic and I always take notice of that level of detail. All around I like the chain, and the Red Deer location does not disappoint. Today I had the Balsamic Chicken Salad (it was just a Greek salad with balsamic vinegar), and it was quite good. The chicken was grilled perfectly and the salad dressing had the right blend of acidity and sweetness. I was in a group of about 15 people and the service was very quick and good. We all received our food at the same time and everyone seemed to be happy with their dishes. The waitress was very nice and managed to keep everyone's drinks full the entire time. Mr. Mikes is a good place to get some classic Canadian favourites. read more

Oh Mr. Mike's.... We were excited to visit you, given that my boyfriend's name is Mike - and it was his birthday. How much fun! I'm not sure how this experience could have been worse. We kept a positive attitude though out, and tried many times to brush things off, but unfortunately this was a big miss for us. It started when the waitress balked at the temperature we ordered our steaks at (med-rare for me, rare for my bf). She looked at him with disgust and said "Eww gross, really?"... He was really polite and confirmed that was what he wanted. She concluded that she had been waitressing for years, and had never had someone order it like that. I was surprised, given that this is a place that claims to specialize in steak... but ok, everyone has their opinion. We had a laugh and moved on. The food came out after over 30 minutes, and the steaks looked like they had been cooked that entire time - completely dark without a hint of red. The waitress disagreed with us when we (politely) complained, as did the manager. We had to get them to read the description of different temperatures (printed on their menu) for them to finally agree that 'no red' meant that the steak couldn't be called 'rare'. I get that customers aren't always right, but at some point you need to realize that it doesn't matter whether or not the customer is right... all that matters is that the customer is happy. We weren't happy, and I think we were a lot nicer about it than a lot of other hungry people would be in the situation. Oh well, moving on. We eventually got new steaks that were closer to the way we ordered them. The cuts of meat were really sinewy and chewy. We really didn't enjoy it, but I admit that we were probably particularly thrown off by the service we had received so far. We paid full price for our meal. Fair enough, but it would have been a nice gesture to take a percentage off, or give us a free desert or something. I guess I wasn't surprised given the service we'd had so far. In all fairness, Mr. Mike's head office did follow up with us on our comment card comments, and gave us a $20 gift certificate to give their location another chance. I don't think we'll drive up to Red Deer to use it... in fact, I'm not even sure we'd bother even if the location was down the street. Maybe we caught our waitress, the manager, and the restaurant on a bad day. Unfortunately, the experience was so bad that we probably won't be back to give it another chance. read more

Mr Mikes has a great environment, awesome food, and fun drinks. However my biggest complaint is the service is usually sub par or less. The staff needs an upgrade, they are often forgetful or in general just plain poor service. ( No napkins, often no cutlery, asks for a substitution on a beverage or food item and forgets, doesn't bring back change from the bill! no ketchup for French fries?!) I love mr mikes don't get me wrong. But the service I've had there (on plenty occasions) has been less than good. read more

I really enjoyed Mr Mikes Steakhouse and found that it was a great place to go to celebrate our anniversary. The food was wonderful! We enjoyed the fresh tomato bruschetta as our starter and it was delicious! I really enjoyed the cilantro sauce that was on it as it was a very complementary flavour to the fresh tomatoes and balsamic vinegar dressing. For the main meal I had the chicken quesadilla which had great flavours that blended well without any flavour overpowering another. It also came with the house garden salad that I found quite appealing with the added dried cranberries and pumpkin seeds. For dessert we shared the Rocky Mountain Madness. Delicious chocolate cheesecake goodness! I also ordered the pink elephant (which is one of the super bowl drinks). So yummy! Perfect for sharing as it is very large, but at the same time perfect to enjoy all on your own too! Our server, Lauren, was wonderful and was very prompt and personable. Overall I really enjoyed the restaurant itself and also like the fact they have several games (like Yahtzee and scrabble for example) for people to enjoy. The only thing that wasn't 5 stars was that I found the tables to be a bit too high. I am on the shorter side but not super short. However, normally I find tables at a bit lower height, so the table we were at (which was a booth) was an awkward height for me. I will definitely go there again though! read more

Normally, I'd give Mike's 4 stars, but my latest visit was less than stellar. We only had drinks & appetizers but the appetizers looked... well, unappetizing. The potato skins looked like they had been done an hour ago & had been sitting under a heat lamp. The artichoke & spinach dip looked much the same. Normally the dip is juicier or more substantial, but it looked like it had deflated & had been sitting there a while. This is odd, because this was only 4pm in the afternoon. The wait staff was not very attentive. When he took my friend's debit card he had it for a good 10-12 minutes before returning with the debit machine, while he had been running around attending to other customers in between. It made my friend a bit uncomfortable that he was running around with her card. Like I said, normally I really like Mike's, but this time around was rather disappointing. read more

Lodge night is the way to go, awesome steak sandy for 50% off ($9) and I had the shrimp with sirachia honey sauce, there had to be 30 big breaded shrimp in there. I was stuffed! When my father and I went for lunch, I was absolutely amazed by the level of disarray and miscommunication held by staff and the kitchen. We had an entirety of two other meals that we never got (or ordered) put on our bill, and just as the waitress looked at my dad and asked his payment method, he asked to look at the bill, and luckily he did. the bill was about 50$ over what we came in and ordered. read more

On Sat, Feb 20, our team of 20 exuberant soccer playing ladies from Edmonton arrived at the restaurant for dinner. We were given an extended table and adjoining booths in the back of the restaurant. Cheryl was our very hard working and patient waitress. She kept our drinks fresh and took care of our every need. Chris, the manager, gave our 3 birthday girls special attention, and was very charming. It can be challenging to place a food order for 20 people, but Cheryl was a pro. Not one item or side dish was incorrect or missed. All the food arrived to the appropriate person hot and fresh and just as ordered. And it was delicious! Lots of steaks were ordered, and they all arrived perfectly cooked, ribs were fall off the bone tender, and the reviews from all were that the dinner was wonderful. Thank you to the Mr. Mike's staff for doing such a great job, and putting up with our rowdy antics. We appreciate the great service and the great food and will definitely be back! read more

Unfortunately, it's the staff that give this place two stars. The food is hit or miss but the service is always lacking. Last time we were there, half the staff apparently didn't show up and we paid dearly for that and truthfully we should have left then. Waited forever for all aspects and the food was mediocre and definitely not worth the wait. Sadly we won't be back, and this was a favourite of mine from when I was a kid.
