Today is my birthday my ask where you like to have breakfast I told her a place that serve menudo but a friend of told me a place in Downey serve Menudo and Mexican cuisine called Mr Menudo official in Downey. We drove to Downey right away the parking lot is fully and we notice a crowed waiting outside of the restaurant. We found parking then we went in to put my name on the list,the hostess say will take 30 minutes away we're surprise how pack the restaurant full of people enjoying their meal and especially their big bowl freshly made menudo in the morning and Mexican tradition. After the 30 minutes finally we're seated in a very tight environment people enjoy their meal in this crazy environment but everyone is have their breakfast in the morning. The hostess hand us the menu and getting our drinks we order Cafe de Olla a traditional Mexican coffee blend with cinnamon and piloncillo it's Mexican raw sugar. We're looking at the menu everything look so good but we look around the people their meal looks so delicious and big portions We decided to order my wife order the Nepal with eggs plate comes with potatoes and rice and bean. I order a big bowl of freshly made menudo comes with a basket of corn tortillas and we order a side of guacamole. The waitess brought us our Cafe de Olla and mimi concha Mexican sweet bread and chips and salsa We looking around the restaurant,we notice people enjoying their breakfast and the staff is keeping themselves busy and make the people happy. Finally they brought our meal it looks so good. My bowl of menudo was steaming warm coming from the kitchen they so brought complimentary onion,lime and cilantro company with menudo. I add it the onoin,lime and cilantro to my bowl of menudo it tasted so good like home cooking from my mom and grandma from Mexico. The broth is was rich wirh flavor and red from the chiles they us in the broth. Adding the tortilla in the menudo will bring flavor and another level of enjoyment of the menudo that kept you full a d happy for the day. My wife like her nopals with eggs but she it need little more season and onion to bring the meal more savorying to the plate. Overall we enjoy the food at Mr.Menudo very much we need to come back with family and friends. read more

The ambience of this place is pretty small . Not a great experience for the first time . Waited a little over 30 minutes We sat down ordered the couple that was next to us ordered after we did and they got their food before us . We waited a little over 30 minutes for our food once I asked to waitress what was going on they brought out our food a couple minutes later but we didn't even have utensils once again we had to wait . I was really getting frustrated because I seen other people get there food really quick and just had sat down, Anyways the food was okay I don't understand the hype for the menudo it was disgusting even the couple next to us sent back the menudo . First time trying out Mr. Menudo. The servings were generous and the flavors were good! The service on the other hand could have been better. Our waitress seemed not personable, she yawned a few times when asking for our order and seemed irritated that we didn't know what we wanted to order. I asked for a cafe de olla and got a regular coffee, we asked if we could get chilaquiles divorciados and she said no! She didn't offer suggestions either, which I did see a chilaquiles plate on the menu with both green and red sauce option after the fact. We asked for napkins multiple times and it took a while to get them. It was not a busy day either. FYI, everything has an extra charge: additional salsa extra, refill of coke was extra, asked for a little extra birria broth and also extra. My rating is based on my to go order. I saw the menu has way more than menudo so I will Definitely go back to try more. This is based on the menudo and I definitely enjoyed it! I've tried a few menudos before and this is probably one of my favorites so far. I love the pata with it too. Heads up: the wait is long. There was at least 10 parties waiting when I picked up on a Tuesday morning but it was a holiday so that made a difference too. The place is not that big either so it doesn't fit too many people. Finally had the chance to try this spot today and most dishes did not disappoint. We tried the chilaquiles rojos, Gorditas, breakfast enchiladas and a breakfast burrito, all dishes were flavorful. However my dad ordered their menudo, this is the dish they are known for it was just ok. When they brought it over to the table it smelled, menudo shouldn't smell if washed correctly. Service here is great, fast and friendly. Our servers Cristian and Martha were both great, kept checking in on us to make sure everything was going well or if anything else was needed. I ordered a chico menudito, huevos rancheros( they came with one red and one green sauce covered eggs on a crunchy tortilla) and a few tamales( they really needed the salsa they came with) for the table! After a long and heavy day of drinking on July 4th, I needed something in my system to begin my journey on the road to recovery. Not that I was struggling or anything despite drinking enough to toe the line of blacking out, but a little food in the system never hurt. Anyway, a friend of mine lives down the street and had been talking about how Mr. Menudo is known for *drum roll* menudo. While I know what menudo is (and has in it a.k.a. offal), I've never had menudo before, but it sounded exactly like what I needed. It was about 8:30 AM and the place was already very lively. We were able to be sat immediately and ordered a big bowl of menudo and a short rib chilaquiles plate. First order of business was the menudo. I fixed up a bowl for myself and couldn't wait to dive in. A hot, hearty bowl of a nice red and visually appetizing broth, loaded with hominy and beef honeycomb, garnished with onions, cilantro, and a couple wedges of lemon to punch up the brightness and flavor. How could you NOT like this? Naturally me being a spice fiend I had to put in lots of dried chili flakes and a scoop of the chili oil. It was SO GOOD. Personally I loved the beef honeycomb. In Cantonese cuisine, it's a common dish to order at dim sum (breakfast/brunch) and can also be braised with beef too. The chili oil was super delicious and reminded me of Cantonese food again. It's condiment that's ubiquitous at any Cantonese restaurant. I don't think I've ever had a "proper" plate of chilaquiles before. Maybe once before somewhere, but obviously it wasn't memorable enough to want it again. However, the short rib chilaquiles here was addictive. The short rib was perfectly tender with just enough bite to still have shape/texture to it. This was such a good dish full of different textures which I love: Crunchy from the tortilla chips, but also a little soft from the sauce, tender meat, a bite of comforting rice, and perfectly scrambled eggs. I'm very big on bold flavors and this dish checked off every box. Going back to the chili oil, I had to some with every bite. Service was super friendly too! I wish I could be nice that early in the morning. By the time we left, there was already a full house, a wait, and a busy parking lot. They're definitely doing something right here and it shows. Finally was in the area and stopped by on a Saturday 10:00 am . Parking lot was full, 20 minutes wait but well worth it. Wife and I shared the grande menudo. Grandson just a bean burrito and my daughter , chilaquiles verdes. Everything was a "10" . We couldn't have been more pleased, good food, great service and Bueno Micheladas!! Wow! I got to try this place last Sunday during a cold rainy day and let me just tell you! You gotta try the menudo. Absolutely delicious. I mean come cmon, it's called Mr.Menudo for a reason. I got the small bowl and it was a perfect size but than again I'm a fatty and decided to order a Gordita with Chicharrón on top of my bowl. That was also excellent. Next time, I wanna try the chivo because I like goat lol. But yes, if you're in the area or hesitant to try...don't be. Stop by. This place serves quality food and the customer service is amazing! We had a party of 10 people and we were able to get a table within 15 minutes. The space is quaint and makes you feel like you're at someone's home. I ordered a regular coffee and the mug was magnificent! The biggest coffee mug and it came with a complimentary pan dulce! So yummy! And the coffee was excellent in flavor and strength. For breakfast I ordered the huevos a la mexicana and my kiddo got huevos con jamon. Each breakfast plate comes with rice, beans, papas and corn tortillas. They even brought complimentary bolillos to the table and they were tasty as well. My friend tried their signature menudo. Although it was high in spice, my friend gave it a 10/10. Just make sure to have some water handy lol. And the staff are wonderful. The menudo was so stinky, as soon as they put the bowl on the table the odor was so strong, and it also had very little broth, and when I asked the waitress for more broth she said it would be an extra charge for that! I mean....really! Needless to say I couldn't eat it, and neither could my sister. That is how strong the odor was. I told the waitress and she said nobody else has complained about it. My husband heard about this place & has been dying to try it, so we went on a Sunday. There were a ton of people, but the wait was only 20, minutes. My husband said it was one of the best menudos he's ever had. My chilaquiles were SO good. Finally! Had the opportunity to come to this restaurant. I had seen so many post hyping up this place and the food looked very good specifically menudo because that's what they're known for. So I made the hour drive to check it out. Food: I had the Menudo with everything the large one the portion is quite large for $20. I think it's OK. As soon as the Menudo arrived it had a strong smell. Some people are used to it I personally am not I think menudo is a type of meat that you really have to know how to clean so it's not stinky. My personal preference is no smell of the meat. I know it is delicate and it requires specific cleaning method to get rid of this smell. This was not the case here and for me that is why I am taking one star off. In general the taste was OK but it was nothing outstanding. Also I expected hoped for a better type of grano. Service: I will say the servers are very nice and attentive and you are in and out fast felt a little rushed. For this reason I took off another star.
