Took my NA Miata to Mr. Mazda for the first time. I have had the car for less than a year and had been getting some work done by my prior Honda mechanic. What I had been finding out was I had to do multiple trips to get the work completed properly and I myself had to troubleshoot the symptoms. I decided to take my car in to Mr. Mazda for the timing belt service. Couldn't be happier with the work and I feel confident now that it has been gone over my Mr. Mazda team. They also fixed the slight over heating issue that I had been facing after the recent new radiator replacement. What it turns out was that a hose was too long and was linking a bit. I was really hoping to like this place, and they did a good job of doing the 30k maintenance on my Mazda 3 at a cheaper price than the dealership, but... after chatting with Mike who originally scheduled my appointment (he was extremely friendly and apologetic), Alex who had handled my car was also friendly, I was just expecting a whole rundown of what was done on my car (just for my own sanity or reassurance), or even a checklist of some sort. I asked twice politely, perhaps not all that directly, and I know they're professionals, and they'll do exactly what is listed for a 30k maintenance on a Mazda 3, but it would have been nice to have gone through that list. Came here on a recommendation from a family member who also has a Mazda, even though it's a bit out of my way. My car Shirley, a 2015 Mazda 3, is coming off a lease where I had all service done at dealership, and I wanted to find a new mechanic for future work on car and oil changes. Scheduled appt about a week in advance for oil change. Easy to do, flexible on timing. Dropped car off this morning, great service from Tim, who told me pricing in advance and let me know it would take an hour. Came back to pick up an hour later and car was all set, as promised. Tim mentioned my cracked windshield and when I told him price I was quoted at by Safelight to replace, he took a look at windshield, called a parts supplier and was able to quote me for a lower price point. Told me to give him 2-3 days notice when I was ready to replace and I could bring in for that service. Also let me know that I should likely replace tires in 1-2 services and how many more miles I likely had. Definitely not the kind of guys trying to sell you on immediate or unnecessary services, and kind enough to give you a heads up when it'll likely be needed. Overall, great group running a solid business, very friendly and very knowledgable. Clear to me that they aren't looking to rip you off, which as a female with admittedly minor car knowledge, is always a concern. Would gladly recommend them to other Mazda owners. I took my previous Mazda to the now-closed Rotorsport in Santa Clara since it was closer to home. Now that Paul moved out of state, I have taken my business with my latest Mazda to Mike at Mr. Mazda. Mike is great to work with and very knowledgeable about Mazdas. He does a great job of explaining any work he is suggesting for the car. I will say that if you are looking to save a lot of dollars in maintenance/repairs from the dealer, you will need to look elsewhere. Also, with any car issue, do your own research online before. Always helps to be educated going in. Ultimately for me, the goal is to build a trusted relationship with a specialist shop that will take care of me no matter what comes up. I can trust these guys. And they work faster and cheaper than the dealerships. My driver's side door latch was broken, and the brake reservoir gasket was missing (long story). I called around, and the dealerships were going to charge me much more for labor. I spoke with Justin at first, and although there was a bit of a misunderstanding about the work needed, I still felt like I could work with this shop. When I dropped off the car, I talked with Mike. Very friendly and professional. Good listener. My car was missing a few screws on the door, too, and he made sure notes were made to take care of that. And he even replaced the battery in my car remotes for free! For the reservoir gasket, Mike had to call around to find the part and eventually ordered it for me (after checking with me first). It's a simple and quick install, so they only charged me for the part and not labor. If I have any future problems with my car, I am definitely taking it back to Mike. read more

I also bring my parents cars here, too. He can also service any Japanese made car. IF I COULD GIVE 10 STARS I WOULD! My girlfriend's 2010 Mazda speed 3 had some major issues due to her not properly caring for the car. Car was driving extremely bad and I literally feared for my life every time I got in the car to go down the street...or even just starting the car not knowing what some of the issues were. So I took it upon myself to search for a shop that would know the car best and with a name like "Mr. Mazda" one could understand why they were the first shop I contacted. From the money I got in touch with Tim at Mr. Mazda's I immediately felt at peace with trusting him to do the repairs to the car. He was very informative on what the issues were and what the damaged parts do for the car helping us understand what exactly to expect once the car was repaired. After doing a diagnostic and checking the car from top to bottom the following is what needed attention: - Air filter replacement. - Transmission Fluid. - Front right engine mount. - Serpentine Drive Belt. - RR Sway bar end link. - Rear Shocks. - Front Struts. - Throttle Body cleaning. - Tires were slim bald almost down to the wire. - Front lower control arms. - Engine oil. All for a grand total shy of $3,550. We obviously didn't have the means to fix it all at one time so Tim took it upon himself to recommend what needed to be fixed immediately to keep her safe until we had the finances to fix the rest. After listening to what Tim recommended we decided to go with it and break it down into two phases. The first phase cost $2,100 and after completing the first phase the car did run better and stayed safe for the few months we needed to save up for the rest. Today we finally took the car back in for phase two and Tim took the car in right away at 10:30am and was done with it by 4:45pm. We took the car out for a spin tonight to test it out and let me tell you, as cliché as it may sound, it's as good as new! Though this was our first experience working with Tim I am very confident that this shop is trustworthy and keeps it 100% real with you. I will definitely be making this my go to shop for both the Mazda and my 2005 SUBARU Forster. He specializes in everything Japanese so don't let the name of the business allow you to believe they won't work on your car. And I usually do a lot of my own car maintenance, brake jobs, oil changes, suspension work, clutch work, and depending on the car sometimes I have been known to swap a few engines. But when it comes to engine internals, and transmission internals, I leave it to the pros. Even after my first experience with mike and the guys at Mr Mazda, I can tell you that not only will I be returning for all my major Mazda maintenance needs, but they are exactly what I strive to be like in my own field of mechanics. From the first time I spoke with mike on the phone (I'm assuming he's the owner), he was extremely kind, knowledgeable, and patient with all of my questions. He took the time explain everything that I thought might be wrong with my car in terms that were easy to understand. With what I thought was wrong with my car I was fully expecting to end up with a bill between $500-1000. But he did something that I think is very rare in a business where every dollar counts in keeping the doors open. He was completely honest, and told me that my car was completely fine, and needed no work done at all. My usual Miata mechanical road trips to Hayward have been reduced by about...well, I'm not sure, exactly. But that's not the point, really. This is: Recently, I got a keyless entry installed for my 1999 NB Miata which was done at another shop...but sadly, their work was sloppy (for starters, the original keyhole assembly was stripped), which the kind folks at Mr. Mazda had pointed out to me. (Still have the evidence, LOL.) Luckily, after a quick consult on what part I needed, I later found the SAME part on eBay that ended up solving the problem. With Mike's permission, I had the part delivered to Mr. Mazda's Campbell address. Though it took two iterations to finish the job--due to the aforementioned keyless entry fiasco--the Mr. Mazda team were judicious and fair in both pricing and labor, and the cost of said labor. Translation: Mr. Mazda cleans up other people's messes, nary batting an eye. They're the car doctor you always wanted. Most businesses? I came here after being told my IAC needed a whole replacement at Almaden. I thought that was super sketch as hey did the throttle cleaning on my car and were trying to to charge me 750 for a whole repair... So I gave MrMazda a call to see if they could give it a look. After less than 15-30min,they diagnosed that the throttle response needs a hard reset after each cleaning. Recently purchased an aftermarket fuel pump for my MazdaSpeed3 and I wanted to get it installed. While my friends and I are capable of doing it, none of us wanted to have to go through the work of removing everything, installing the fuel pump without messing anything up, and then re-installing the parts. I looked on yelp for autotech shops near San Jose, and I called a few, but most of them didn't install fuel pumps for my car. Shortly after I gave up, my friend found Mr. Mazda on yelp. I called them right away, and Tim, the manager of the place, picked up the phone. We talked a bit, and I was able to schedule an appointment for the very next day. However, according to Tim, the place can get kinda hectic throughout the day, so he asked if I could come in the morning. As much as I dreaded waking up early in the morning, I agreed to do so. I got to the place, which was packed with a bunch of cars, but there was parking. I walked into the shop, and I told Tim I was there for an appointment, where he immediately knew who I was. After signing a few papers and giving him my key, they got to work almost right away. According to the website where I bought the pump, the install would take around 3 hours. Thankfully, since this place is very professional, it only took around an hour to install. Afterwards, they took my car on a quick test drive, to make sure everything was functioning correctly. After this, I paid them and I went on my merry way. Tim and his team not only explained what they would be doing and the expected cost up front, but he also said if certain things didn't need to be done he would charge even less. I recently brought my 2011 Mazda Rx8 into Mr.Mazda because of the fact that they "specialize" in rotary engines, so I thought. I dropped off my car because of some clutch issues I was experiencing. The car was there for 4 days and within those 4 days the engine was flooded, the passenger floor was drenched with water, and on top of that Pat the receptionist was trying to charge me half an hour of labor for a stud and bolt that they broke on my suspension. I went in on Monday 12/12 to go drive the car with them because they weren't sure what was the sound I was talking to them about, and as I got into my car it's when I noticed the water all over my passenger floor, and then that my engine was flooded. I tried talking to Pat to find a solution to the problems they have caused and he was EXTREMELY rude, he would just keep smirking while saying "I don't know what to tell you man" then would laugh because he seemed annoyed that I was trying to find a solution to the problems they added to MY CAR yet he was the one acted offended to the point where he just left me talking alone and tried walking away to go back into the office. At the end of the conversation nothing got resolved, they just got my car to start running again and he refused to take my car in for the service I went to them for. The mechanics that were there on Monday were very respectful and helpful, but because of Pat it was an awful experience. read more

Honest Mechanic I brought my 2011 Mazda 3 for intermittent Engine light with AT and Dynamic Traction Control lights too. The diagnostic shows U0100 Lost communication ECM/PCM A. Tim explained this problem is known for defective TCM. He recommended to take my car to Mazda service center because it should be covered by the warranty. I did not believe him at first because the car has 143,000 miles; I was wrong and he was right, the TCM issue is known by Mazda and it is covered by the warranty. Tim did not charge me for the information, but I will take my Mazda 3 to Mr. Mazda for service in the future. read more

This guy is legit. Took my CX-9 to Capitol for service. They changed spark plugs, changed transmission fluid, etc. Got my car back and the transmission was stuttering and driving horribly. Took it back and they said nothing was wrong with it but they did a "computer upgrade"(which they tried to charge me $250 for). Still driving like crap. Thinking it must just be getting old even though it has under 100K miles. Decided to take it to Mr. Mazda just in case. Transmission plug was completely stripped and transmission fluid was 2 quarts low!! Mr. Mazda was amazing. Great service, good customer service, and they fixed my car! Highly recommend. Around March/April of this year I decided to bite the bullet and get an inspection done on my car which seemed to have all sorts of ailments. After finding Mr Mazda's listing on yelp and reading all the fantastic reviews I decided to give them a call. I set up the appointment, dropped my vehicle off, and the report came back later that day. Brake job, tune up, oil change, rotation and alignment. They quoted me prices for everything so that I could break the servicing up into affordable chunks. Overall, I was very impressed with their professionalism and knowledge. They did a full inspection at a reasonable price and gave me options. When I dropped my vehicle off that day I had indicated that there might be several things wrong with my vehicle, and they could have taken full advantage of my vehicular hypochondria, but they didn't. They were open, honest, and communicative. Parts and labor quoted for the various types of work needed were also very reasonable and competitive. I enjoyed their service enough that I had every intention of taking my vehicle back to get the appropriate work done when I had the available funding....until today.... 2 of the studs on my rear wheel broke off while changing a tire yesterday. I took my vehicle to another shop today to get the studs replaced. Once the work was done the mechanic asked me if someone had worked on my brakes recently. I explained I had an inspection done several months ago (by Mr Mazda) and that was the last time anyone touched them. Turns out the spring on my brakes on this particular wheel HAD NOT BEEN CONNECTED which would explain why brakes have felt odd for a while! I had dismissed the oddness since the inspection was done (three months ago) as my car needing a brake job in general. I was totally wrong! Most likely the mechanic who worked on my brakes just forgot to reconnect the spring, and I do understand that mistakes happen....However, THAT is a REALLY DANGEROUS MISTAKE! I can only imagine if the same mistake had been made on both my rear brakes! So, while I echo many of the compliments people have given Mr Mazda, I have to say my opinion has diminished greatly upon discovering that my brakes were not properly reconnected. This review is long overdue. I had an engine problem (low compression) with my 2004 RX8 last year. After doing some research, I decided to bring in my car to Mike. Mike explained what the situation was and how it could be solved with no pressure or obligation. He was friendly and professional and most importantly, upfront. I ended up needing a new engine and all the fixings that come along with at a very reasonable rate. He explained how to take care of the engine and what precautions to take. He scheduled an oil change a few months later and when I came back, everything was in top condition. My 95 Miata kept giving off a burning odor, so I called Mike and he pretty much diagnosed it over the phone. I dropped my car off on a Tuesday night and did the $89 oil change + diagnostic. Mike had the car ready for me the next afternoon. He gave me a full breakdown (including pricing) of what I could get repaired if I wanted, and what I needed repaired to keep the car running strong. I took the car home and dropped it off again a week later to get my oil leak repaired. I also asked Mike to install my new Catalytic Converter and Spark Plugs. This was on a Friday and he didn't have enough time to finish it which I understand since I dropped the car off late the night before. Anyways, instead of getting it done on Monday, Mike came in on Saturday for me (when they're usually closed) and got the car done! It's never run this smoothly! I've got to be honest, I haven't really crossed a mechanic whom I can fully put my entire trust on them working on my car without breaking anything inside or outside of it and never taking the fault. Mr. Mazda is a fine establishment, where Mike is very courteous, won't rush you and most imporatantly, listens to you as he takes not only pride in working on your Mazda but he's completely honest about what's really going on underneath the hood. I've been taking my 87 RX-7 to Mike since I first discovered his shop back in 2000 as he's been in business, long enough to keep up with the competition out there. Most recently, I have only encountered one flaw, where one of his mechanics, who was installing new hydraulic hatch lifts for my back hatch and while he installed it, the ball joint of the lift, must have slipped and took a gouge out of my window tint. He didn't even bother to mention what he did, even after realizing that I know every little scratch & dent on that car. As a result that mechanic no-longer works there as Mike took the responsibilty for the other guy's actions as the whole back window had to be repaired. I felt bad that Mike had to deal with that but that's just another reason why I'm giving this review 5 stars. I sent him a thank you card and a bottle of wine for any of his troubles. I can't say enough good things about this place. This is the first place I have ever been for car service where I don't feel as though I am being scammed. It's hard trying to find a trustworthy car shop when you are a woman who doesn't know a whole lot about cars. Mike, the owner, explains everything that's going on with my car. Some places could fix anything you request even if it doesn't really need fixing. Mike won't do that...if you ask for something to be fixed on a recommendation from another place, he'll check it out for himself before doing anything. I absolutely love this place. Mr. Mazda aka Mike Muscara has been taking care of my Ford Probe GTs, which are mechanically Mazdas (3 of them at one point) for several years. One the members of my car club kept raving about how good this place was, and when another shop ruined the original engine in one of my cars, I took it to Mr. Mazda, who finished replacing the engine and taking care of other issues the first shop did wrong or poorly. His shop services other foreign makes besides Mazdas so be sure to contact him to see whether you car can visit Mike's shop too. A tip: Whenever I drop my car off for service, I leave some chocolate chocolate chip cookies on the back seat (he likes to dunk them in his coffee). :-) read more

Set dates for completion of my car are never met. I usually have to pick up my car several days after they say it will be completed. One incident, four days late they said my car would be done before 12:00. I came in at 4:00 only to find that they had not started on my car. Whenever I get my car back I find a new problem caused by the mechanic within hours. I have never had to take my car here just once because they always mess up with the job I pay them to do. Recently I took my car there and got it back covered in dents looking like whoever worked on my car was swinging tools around and hitting the car. I also found a large scratch in my hood that looks like the dog in the shop was around my car and clawing at it. I will never ever bring my car near this shop again. read more

I won't ever take my Miata to these incompetent, negligent wanna be mechanics. They charged me for a part and labor and when I picked up my vehicle I still had the original problem. They did not refund for the part or labor and stated oh, we will check to see if it is something else. I took my car back five times for them to fix and every time they did not fix the original problem and my car had more problems after being at their shop. Worthless!!!!
