Mr. Jack's does what they do well. Service with a smile, super-prompt and tasty enough. Everything was warm enough; nothing was not, which was okay. The service was quick and the food was good. I was in the area waiting for my daughter and noticed Mr. Joc Peruvian chicken. I've seen it a few times and had been wanting to give it a try. Today was that day. It was pretty easy, not very crow when I went inside to order. There was no weight at all, and I placed my order at the carryout counter. I just ordered a half of chicken with green beans and fried plantains. The guy behind the counter was pretty friendly and told me my order will be ready within five minutes. It was prepared and ready as promised. I took it as Kary out so I didn't eat it until I got home. I don't live too far away, so the food was still pretty hot. The chicken was moist and flavorful. String beans were a little bit bland, but I won't hold that against them. Everything else was Delicious. I will definitely stop here again and try some of their other menu items. Completely underwhelmed. I went because I had seen great reviews, especially of their burger. I got the burger and ceviche. The burger seemed like what you would get for a kid at a theme park. Small, overcooked pre-made patty. Tasteless. The lettuce was fresh. The ceviche was the plainest I have ever had. For the single food, aside from guinea pig, that Peruvians are known for, it was sad. This is your typical Peruvian chicken restaurant with additional options. Unlike others their menu is simple and easy to read. You are not overwhelmed with tons of other options. I think those who think their menu is overwhelming have never been to others restaurants like this. Since their menu was easy to read we decided to try something other than the standard rotisserie chicken. My husband got the cheesesteak steak he said it was the softest bread he has ever had. This place definitely has potential to be awesome and I came here knowing that they have only opened for a few days and there are probably kinks to work out. I'm just excited an option like this even exist in Eldersburg! I called in my order because I knew it'll be busy, the call took a few times for it to go through and the lady was about to hang up on me after my order and I had to ask if they remembered my name, she said yes but my order wasn't in when I arrived to the place. Again, no dings, they're just getting started and trying to get their bearings! I also couldn't pay over the phone. Let's just start with the chicken... the chicken was SO juicy!!! I grew up eating Peruvian chicken weekly where these chicken joints is on every other block. I would say that the skin has the right seasoning and flavoring but the seasoning doesn't go beyond the skin. Nothing some of the yellow and green sauce won't fix I suppose. I want to say that my favorite chicken place goes heavy in the cavity of the chicken with the seasoning as well so maybe that's something for Mr. Jack to consider. For sides, we got black beans and fried plantains. This was really where the disappointment kicked in, black beans were salty and tasted like canned beans with a load of salt. I've never had plantains as charred as these and had to pick out the extremely hard and burnt pieces but otherwise they were good. The menu is slightly overwhelming. Part of me wished that they offered less options and focused on their chicken and perfecting their sides. Part of me is excited these options are available to try since Eldersburg isn't exactly screaming diversity when it comes to food options. A long awaited opening given that we need more eatery options in E-burg besides pizza places, and MSG laden national chains. I believe the food selection Mr Jack offers is unique to the area and true to the Latin / Caribbean theme advertised. The staff is friendly but it is obvious that they are in need of getting the kinks worked out. The order process is cafeteria style which is somewhat disappointing - it would be better if they offered table service so that you are not in line trying to figure out what is what from a giant menu overhead. I love rotisserie style chicken but have to say that I found this one primarily salty and on the dry side and then the yuca froes were fresh but lacked salt. In my opinion the portion sizes are small for the prices charged. I am certain that improvements will come as they refine their processes. read more

I decided I wanted Peruvian style sauce to go with my home cooked chicken dinner. On my way home I pulled into a shopping center I was familiar with that advertised a Peruvian chicken spot. From Liberty Road I had to circle to the back of the parking lot to find the business. Once inside i was warmly greeted and decided to try some plantains as I asked about the price of the sauce cups adjacent to the register. I was provided one hot and one mild sauce on the house with the purchase of my side. The plantains were delicious and I'm glad I decided to stop. But after dinner I did rethink the cost for a large side which totaled in upwards of $7. I like to follow the "it cost what it cost" motto but I also know $7 worth of plantains in the supermarket would have supplied me with several lbs versus the container I left with. All in all, I would probably return (the sauce was delicious) to try other menu items. read more

I really hope that management sees this and most of the other 'not so great' reviews and decides to focus on training their staff in hospitality, that they make slight changes in how they prepare the food in addition to some menu changes, because I really wanted to like this place. I've been looking forward to coming here since it opened, and we finally had the chance to this evening. However, I'm disappointed in our experience. The first thing we saw when we walked in was an extremely overwhelming/confusing menu and ordering process. They could literally remove half of the menu and it wouldn't be missed. We walked in and ordered a 1/2 chicken with rice/green beans, a side salad, a chicken and cheese sub with no mayo and 2 drinks for $30. The entire ordering process with the staff was terribly disorganized. I had to call for the attention of the person making my order saying "excuse me" a few times to get the things I wanted. I asked for feta on my salad multiple times and they looked at me and said "I don't see it here, I don't know where it is". So, no feta on my $4.75 mini 1/2 cup of mediocre salad. We also noticed that the fries were "pre-made" and taken out with tongs from a serving bucket like the other sides but, more on that later in the review. The half chicken was okay, although I've had much better experiences at other Peruvian chicken places. The rice and green beans were very good but the portions were small. The chicken cheesesteak is described on the menu as "a hefty serving of chicken, provolone cheese, peppers, onions and mayo served on a fresh roll". Unfortunately they made a mistake with our sub order and added lettuce and tomato on a bun that looked shredded. So, when I brought up the issue, they looked at me like it was ridiculous that I brought the order back to be exchanged for the correct one. The staff said "okay well then what do you want me to do with the fries" and I responded "I have no idea, just give me the order I paid for". It seemed like it was our fault that the order was wrong. They then brought out a fresh sub, and I politely asked if there was indeed supposed to be lettuce and tomato on the sub because we didn't see it on either the paper nor the board menu. They responded with "I don't know, maybe they just added it because normally a lot of other people do". I then heard them talking about us and our order in the kitchen and laughing. Then we tasted the small-portioned fries and they were under cooked/soggy. The sub was okay, nothing special. We ate our food and left with a bad taste in our mouths. I just think it's extremely disorganized with clearly undertrained staff and there are a few kinks in the menu that should be ironed out, in addition to how they prepare their food. It's pretty obvious that most of the food is pre-cooked and re-heated. With Covid playing a big factor in the restaurant business right now, I do understand that things happen - however; based off of some other reviews I read, it seems as if my experience isn't too far off of what others have experienced, and that nothing has been done to rectify it. They've really got a bit of everything and the menu is pretty dynamic - even picky eaters and children could find something great and thoroughly enjoy it. It's definitely a good alternative to fried chicken that seems to be plentifully offered in the area. Next time I order, I will definitely do call ahead since walk-ins have to wait for around 15 minutes for the food. There was only an ill placed sign saying if your ordering chicken stay in this line if not go to the register. There was no line at the register. No social distancing of any sort just a group of people all trying to get to the register while trying to barely hear their number. When it was finally my turn my food was not ready. I still had to wait (no big deal) i got back into the crush and waited. Finally I got called and I could see the woman putting my food into the bag. I saw 9 peices go in and only two sides. So I said I think your missing a side. My responce was an eye roll while see went into the fridge and got my third side. I then had to ask for sauce and I guess I looked wrong and she was offended because I asked for the side because she asked me what kind and gave me one each when I saw he offer the lady just before me and then give her several. To add insult to the injury of this whole thing I love these chicken places and I ordered plantains which are my favorite. I've ordered the food once and it was okay. So why the 1 star? I do not like shady practices, nor do I like witnessing poor hygiene practices. 2 weeks ago I ordered a medium container of aji amarillo (so yummy) I was told the med would cost $5, a lg $10..I thought it was a bit steep but I really wanted it. I returned today to purchase it again and was told a med $4, lg $7. So which one is it $5/10 or $4/7?!? Was I cheated out of my $ the 1st visit?? Further, please train your employees on proper hand hygiene and glove usage based on current OSHA Compliance standards. 1-Do not wear the same gloves to collect payment, then return to handling food. Gloves used to handle food should be removed, collect payment, then don clean gloves to continue food service. 2-clean gloves should be worn while handling food and fingernails should be the proper length, not long and pointed. I was really excited to have a Peruvian chicken entity opening up here in Eldersburg as food choices here are basic at best. Been to Mr. Jacks 4 times. All were disappointing. The Peruvian chicken is lightly spiced compared to Lima or Chicken Rico. I really like fried Yucca but DO NOT order it from here as it is always cold amd a grease sponge. I tried a $17.00 fried seafood dish which I had been wanting to try. It was to have shrimp, fish, squid. What I paid for and what I received were night and day different than the menu portrayal, not to mention the small portion. Their Inca bowl is real good and tacos are OK. I have gave this place 4 trieS and everytime I order, something does not come as ordered. Most of the staff do not speak English and if the owner is not present.. good luck! This place is very good! If you want chicken fixed the old fashioned way I suggest choose the home made platter. You can choose up two two sides- hubby love the roasted Brussels sprouts- I usually choose the chicken tacos... they are awesome! You can choose shrimp though- but do save room for the dessert- the type I had was like a little donut covered in cream. They do have outdoor seating when it's warmer.. and the bathrooms are fine. Yummy-ish but didn't listen to my order. Ordered guac ($2.00 extra) and no black beans. In my bowl I got ALL black beans, maybe 4 pieces of chicken and no guac. It was pretty good but I am disappointed for how much I paid. We ordered at the check out counter, instead of chipotle style, which I did not prefer. Peruvian chicken is one of my favorite meals and Mr Jacks does not disappoint! We come here at least once a week and always get it for when we host parties as well. We have also catered lunch for our kids teachers with it too. Affordable, fast and delicious. 10/10. read more
