They sent Thomas out to take a look, he was very up front about the condition of the unit and advised that there was alot of issues, which we totally get. He was very thorough and took a lot of reference photos and explained what he was doing. We agreed to look at getting a new system and set up a meeting with Kyle for later the afternoon. Kyle was also amazing and went over the pricing and options, you never want to pay for a new AC unit but it's a necessity here so and they made sure we had a great deal. Well Intelli-HOME Energy ended up being a savior. With the evaluation it was determined that my bedroom alone was receiving 1/4 of the air conditioner air flow. No wonder last summer I froze and my roommates we over heated. They came in and determined that the previous owners contractor had left the old ducts in the attic from the remodel and Intelli-HOME Energy removed both sets of ducts and put in new ducting work along with more insulation. As a result, we made an appointment for him to come by and give us an estimate. We expected him to go up in our attic to measure the size but he said he was in the business long enough to just look at our ceilings and know the size of our attic. We pointed out all the ceilings (including the vaulted ceilings) and he gave us the estimate of 532 square feet. He did say his estimate might be off and anything over 100 square feet we would have to pay. Knowing it was an estimate, we could understand it being off 100, maybe 200 square feet. We signed the estimate and a few days later he made an appointment for someone to lay out the reflective insulation. The young gentleman came in to install the reflective insulation and was very courteous. He went into our attic and said he believes it will take ~1000 square feet of reflective insulation. At this point I called Dennis and asked him how his estimate could be off by 100%. He went onto tell me that my wife and I were responsible for the estimate because we didn't tell him about some other areas in the attic. My wife and I were astounded by this comment since we took him all over the second floor and showed him all the ceilings - so much for his many years of experience! He did offer to lower the price but by this time we felt we were in a "bait and switch" situation and did not trust him. As a result, we refused to have the reflective insulation installed in our attic. All I can suggest for future potential clients is have Dennis include the maximum amount of reflective insulation to be installed in your attic so you won't be surprised when the original estimate doubles.
