Daniel & Chris, his assistant are amazing painters! They work effeciently together and overall a job well done! They painted the exterior of my home & it looks flawless. Daniel helped me with paint recommendations based on an exammple I provided and I trust Daniel's painting skills/knowledge. His prices are fair and if he falls short he will make it right! Overall, I rate Folsom Painting a 4 star, the business communication/follow-up a 2 star. There were a few times I was expecting a follow-up call and start date, but experienced delays which may have been as a result of the busy season. I would hire Folsom Painting again. read more

Had inside and outside painted. Finding a lot of poor prep work, poor painting work. Still discovering overspray and scratch Windows from paint scraping. Paint is coming off door and window sill. Not sure if poor paint or poor prep work. Lots of interior unspackled areas. Looked at my contract which included cabinets but was told at the time they were not covered. Seems poor choice of paint for bath rooms and high use areas. Pantry doors are one example. Came and painted interior of garage with what looks like flat paint and no holes spackled. . Should stick with commercial painting. Had to have them return a few times. Once to paint the top of the gutters. No caulking around inside areas or Windows. Both tops of fireplaces were sticky after three weeks to dry. Seemed resentful when asked to correct items missed or poorly done. If he doesn't like your color choices he will get attitude. Should know when to use a true semigloss in bathrooms and kitchens. Overall, disappointing ! read more

While others have had positive experiences with this company, my experience has not been a good one. I'm chalking up to lessons learned yet am posting this so people are aware of this experience and in the hopes that others may benefit from my mistakes when hiring a contractor, in general. 5 years ago, in escrow buying my home, I learned that to secure my FHA funding that I had to paint my house to remediate lead paint before I even signed the papers. Got 3 estimates, Folsom Painting was the middle estimate, and one was ~$1-1.5k more (from Cress, well-known in Midtown at the time). I hired F.P. The job they were hired for was to take care of the lead paint, and this was clearly communicated to all 3 painters in the same manner. Cress' estimate provides good evidence that this expectation was clearly conveyed. Year 1, I notice some paint lifting. Within 2, it was much worse and has gotten progressively worse since (see pictures of yellow house taken today). I called F.P. once about 3 years after the job was done, because it was getting so bad, and I was told that this is normal. I should not have taken this as an ok response (lesson!). I should have trusted myself! After the heavy rains a few weeks ago, I see paint ballooning out, holding water. This concerned me, so with the paint being so bad, I decide to look into re-siding. Enter two siding contractors who came to give me estimates that were shocked to see a 5 year old paint job looking this bad. One informed me that I could report them to the contractors license board because it's so bad (lesson-you have 4 yrs to do so!). Siders also tell me I'll have to do hazmat removal because the amount of peeling lead paint (yesterday, I learn the cost for this is just over $4k!). I emailed Folsom Painting on 2/16 to have them come see the condition of the house. Email gets ignored, so I call Daniel and he acknowledges he got the email (this is handy for later on). He comes out on 2/21 and his approach is, again, like the condition of the paint is something I should have expected (I was never told the paint job would only last me a handful of years or to expect it to peel like it is!). Daniel said he remembered this job really well because HE did the work. But, he said his dad owned the company at the time but that he would "make right" on his dad's project (admission that something went wrong with this project!). Daniel offers to paint the house again (I felt this was cool). I told him about the lead paint hazard and its implications with the siding and he asks what I want. I said I didn't know, because I still had to weigh all of my options. I also let him know that I was having an unbiased painter come look at the house, to be fair to all involved, so I could get their impression. However, I did ask Daniel if he'd consider a partial refund and he said no (hmmm). I met with the other painter and his impression was that I essentially got what I paid for but not what this job was intended to be, nor what was asked for, which was lead paint removal as a contingency of my home loan. My interaction with Daniel was cordial when he came out, but still very tense. I decide, after considering all things, that a very fair resolution, and the least stressful to both of us, is a partial refund in the amount $1,000. I arrived at this amount factoring what it would roughly cost him, without profit mark-up, to repaint the house, as offered. He said it took him a week to prep alone last time, so I used 40 hours to prep and paint this time. I included $200 in materials for 5 gallons of Sherwin Williams A100 exterior paint @ $42.49/gallon ($212) with a 15% contractors discount (reduces paint cost to ~$180) and ~$20 for incidental materials. Note, this estimate doesn't even include all the extras he'd need to do to contain the lead paint scraping that current standards call for. So, an extremely fair estimate!!! My hope was that after some thought, he'd see this as the path of least resistance and a smart business move. Emailed Daniel on 2/24/15 presenting this option. He ignored this email. 24 hours later I followed up, kindly asking for a response. Nothing. WOW! Cress Painting warned me that if another contractor said they could do the job for less that I wouldn't be getting the job done right. Because the other two bids were lower, I assumed Cress was price gouging me and using scare tactics, but they were right. Lesson-I should have gotten an itemized estimate with lead paint removal intent clearly stated and with documented warranty info. If I had that, we'd be in small claims court right now. Folsom Painting-a "family owned" business since 1990. You can't rest on the laurels of a company name only to use your dad owning it in the past as a cop-out when suited! read more

We hired these guys some years ago . They did a small job for us on the coast" Mendocino" . When they finally arrived their van breaks down . That's about when it all went to hell . Picking them up daily at a local motel dropping them off was to much . When the work was finally done poor paint coverage and the repairs to dry wall we paid extra for soon cracked again . The owner of the business does the work. Its hard to find that in the "construction" world. He did a great job and even helped pick colors which can be a stressful endeavor. We had our entire business office painted including base boards with four different colors. Daniel took his time and is very meticulous. Highly Recommended. read more

I hired Daniel to paint my cabinets & ceilings. Paid him in full the day he was finished but noticed the ceilings were painted in all different different directions so finally he came back. Some of the cabinets also needed touching up. Today is the second time now I had to get the paint out & retouch. A few of them are peeling. Dan is very nice but I would not recommend him. It took long period of days for him to get back to me & when I told him about the ceilings he did get an attitude & probably charged me too much. I should have looked on Yelp before I hired him but it's over and done with I learned a lesson. read more

We were referred to Folsom Painting by a neighbor who used them to paint his house. Daniel showed up promptly to the initial consultation appointment. He was thorough and professional in his explanation of what the painting job would include. He gave us a complete color sample guide, took time to listen to what we were looking for and gave his recommendations of color schemes that might work for us. His bid was extremely reasonable. They started work on the day promised and finished a day later. They were very friendly and accommodating as my wife and kids were in and out of the house throughout the day. To say we were pleased with the paint job would be an understatement. The job was impeccably done and Daniel even fixed a few things on the trim of the house that I believe was above and beyond. There were a number of little touches that all around the house that show a great attention to detail that one normally doesn't see on an exterior paint job. Even the cleanup was well done - the area around the house was cleaner after the job than it was before it started. I was COMPLETELY satisfied with the job, so much so that I asked for a stack of cards and I am recommending him to my neighbors and friends. We were really excited to hire Daniel after he came out to look at painting our home. He seemed very knowledgable, and made arrangements to come see the house quickly after I called. He said we would get an estimate that day since he was heading back to the office. It has been a week now. We've received no quote. I've even called and left a message, texted and emailed him with no response. I even asked for a short email back if he wasn't planning on bidding. Still no answer. I experienced the same problem as Dana above. Daniel came by looked at the house and said he would give me an estimate that evening. It has been several days and still no estimate. Not too mention calls to him, no call back. I would not hire this company or refer him. He raves about his work, and how his Dad started the company and they are the best. Wouldn't know because he will never get the job. If you tell someone you are going to send an estimate that evening or in the next day or two, keep your word. It's been almost a month and I still have not received a quote even after speaking with him again and also sending an email. If he does not want to do the job, he should say so.
