We had problems with our original contractor and engineer, but Don went out of his way to reassure me and he stepped in and took over meeting with the engineer and City staff for permitting. He saved me valuable time and money. At the beginning of my project, Don answered the phone and came to visit the next day. He provided an estimate in a timely manner. During the project, Don and Ruben kept me informed on a daily basis as to scheduled work and progress. We bought a 3 bed/3 bath home in Mission Beach that needed new paint from top to bottom (including ceilings, doors, everything). We also needed some minor construction (e.g., build out a couple of closets, put in steps). We got bids from three companies and Mr. D's was by far the most detailed and professional, which we took as a good sign -- and it was. We are thrilled with the work Mr D and his crew did on our home. They began when they said they would and completed the job on time. The paint looks great, very professional. And the construction turned out beautifully. The crew was very pleasant and responsible. They left our home spotless. Don (Mr. D) is an absolute pleasure to work with. Waste of time. I called Mr. D's for an estimate to complete some work on my garage and around the house. After Don Martin (the owner) came by for a site visit, he told me that he would get back to me by Tuesday or Wednesday the following week with an estimate. It was the Friday before Memorial Day, so it was an understandable time to circle back. After 2 weeks without any estimate I called the office, and Don said that it must have gotten lost in the office, but he'd have it out to me that day. Another week went by. Still no estimate. So this morning I get this from Don: Hi Sam, I will not be able to provide you with a bid for the work at your house Don Martin Mr. D's Construction Services 1100 N. Magnolia Avenue, Ste. Hired Mr D's to remodel our house . Mr D's offered very competitive pricing compared to the other bids and also worked with a flooring company that saved us from having to communicate with several separate supervisors. Mr D's removed the old "popcorn" material, repainted the entire interior, replaced all doors, refinished the kitchen and bathrooms, reframed the closets, installed new fixtures, ceiling fans and appliances throughout the house and even dealt with a rotting backyard deck. This big of a job was bound to have some issues, but any items communicated to Don that needed to be changed or fixed were handled professionally and quickly. They stand behind the work that they do even after the job is done. Very very important. Ruben and Scott who work for Mr D's, were fantastic and have since come out several times to complete other home projects. We have been enjoying the new house for several months now and have since recommended Mr D's to family and friends and will continue to use them for other work needed done in the future. read more

I called for a quote and they started working the next morning at 7:00 a.m. They stripped 1800 sq ft of popcorn ceiling, textured it, painted it, and calked the seam including two coats of paint in a total of 3 days and one of those days was drying time where they could do nothing. Ariel was the bidder and was nice, punctual and easy to deal with. They beat the closest bid too. read more

After that 1call, they didn't take my call. I was told this places customer service needed to be improved, now I confirmed it is bad. Don has put together a great team, honest and hard working! The last 7 years our home had been a rental and we wanted to make it feel like ours again. Don got the project started on time and under the direction of his foreman Ruben and their great crew, the work was done in a very reasonable amount of time with a fair price. Our kitchen was remodeled along with retexture, paint, new flooring and doors. The crew was hard working, polite and had good ideas for situations that came up along the way. My husband and I felt we were in good hands with Mr. D, his crew and the other businesses that worked with them. read more

Was also very disappointed in this company. When Mr. D came out to give us an estimate he wasn't too friendly and didn't pay attention to what we had to say. We wanted two estimates, one for some minor fascia repair and the other for painting the exterior of the house. He said he understood what we wanted and that we would have the estimate within 24 hours. One estimate came three days later with a quote for replacing the facia boards that we wanted repaired and was 2100+ over the other estimates we received. Called the company and reminded them that we wanted two seperate estimates but never heard back from anyone. Keep in mind that you will be talking to an answering machine everytime you call and you will never get a call back or some type of response. The only time you will hear back from them is when you need them to set up an estimate. read more

Very disappointed in this company. Don the owner made a great presentation, when presented with the bid or estimate, several projects that I had requested were not included. I had to re submit for corrections several times. I was asked to wait almost 3 weeks for work to commence, I agreed and 5 days prior to our commitment, Don the owner told me he had decided not to do the job. Wow I guess he found a larger contract at the last minute and simply decided to renege on our agreement. He even had the audacity to tell me that he would return my deposit which according to him, he never asked for. I guess the email sent by his office requesting $1000.00 deposit in order to schedule the work was also a misunderstanding in my part, and yes I saved that email. He also stated that I had asked for a discount, and that was another reason for him not to do the job, oh well I guess that he interpreted my asking for cost clarification as a request for a discount? Odd. Really sad because a couple of years back I had dealt with Ariel, one of his employees and he was polite and professional, and was not touchy about me asking clarification on work charges before work was to be performed. I have since referred several clients whom work was also supervised by Ariel. I will not be sending this company any more business. But if Ariel starts his own company, I would certainly call him. I just had the trim around my house painted and the patio cover repaired and painted by Mr Ds, and they did a great job. I am very pleased. Mr. D's did a wonderful job painting the inside of our home. This was a major project that required removal of wallpaper, extensive patching, texturing and painting. Mr. D's crew was very skilled, polite and prompt throughout the project. Don Martin was very responsive and his quote was very competitive. Very disappointed in this company when they painted our house. The owner Don Martin, made a great sales pitch and we contracted with him to do the job. We never saw him after that, even after calls and emails. We experienced poor communication between Don Martin (owner) and his painters so the painters had little clue as to what the job entailed and what we had contracted them to do. We basically had to manage the painters the five days they were here. Preparation (sanding) was not done until we insisted. Paint was applied quickly and there was not much emphasis on quality workmanship (over spray, lines, missed spots, etc.). The paint job turned out okay, but not without a lot of frustration, stress and management on our part. We paid way too much for the job we received. Next time we need painting, we'll go with someone else. We did have to have Mr. D's come out the following year to fix painted areas that had peeled and cracked. By 2013, there were many more areas where the paint had peeled and cracked. We realize this paint job won't last as long as we had hoped. read more
