The owner acknowledged that we had been given incorrect installation guidance, but refused to acknowledge that it came from his team, despite our emails documenting exactly what we were told. We were then charged for the cleaning and replacement screen associated with the reinstallation. Mistakes happen, but we expected a manufacturer to stand behind its customer when its own team provided incorrect guidance. Instead, there was zero accountability and never a gesture of goodwill. I will not be purchasing from Blaze again.

Need to be careful about this. I picked Darren because he's local. Previous owners somehow screwed up the functionality of my fireplace. They tore some things out so when I do have a fire, usually duraflame, some of the smoke leaks out into the room. Darren diagnosed the problem and did a custom fix, installed a smoke guard, chain screen protector; did a great job, doesn't leak anymore. Great service, good price; also an honest chimney sweep, he looked at the chimney said it doesn't need cleaning. Highly recommend.

The installation was smooth, and aside from a burnt out lightbulb above the flame area, it has worked wonders to heat the house for 4 winters! Fewer stars for the wait-time and attitude when the fireplace stops working. I'm writing this to update my earlier, frustrated review based on having to wait for 8 weeks to get our beautiful Mendota fireplace fixed. In short, the gorgeous fireplace worked great at heating the house for the first 4 years! When it stopped turning on this past October, I was stunned to learn that we would have to wait almost 8 weeks until Dec. 18 for an appointment with OKells to repair it. This made for a cold Thanksgiving since we use the fireplace as the main heat and don't have a furnace. It would have been really helpful if the folks at OKells could either have 1. helped us out to get if fixed sooner, given that it's the only heat source... or if it was impossible to squeeze us in sooner, 2. It would have been awesome if they had recommended one of the independent repair companies immediately, so I knew this was an option. I finally got a referral after desperately calling around for help, from Blaze Fireplace of all places, who went out of their way to give me the names and numbers of several independent companies that fix these things! So, now it's working again after having a valve replaced. (Some of my frustration comes from the fact that I personally always try to go above and beyond for people in need. I'm a teacher, and I always try to go the extra mile for my students and colleagues. The back story is that I had been looking for help with repairing my chimney (new cap and cover) and found a couple of service providers in San Francisco where I live. It appeared that they were highly rated and so I had them come out and give me a quote. They did but the quotes were under names that were different from the name on the websites which raised concerns (do your homework and check out the business address on the website and check for license number before having them come out). I asked for contractor license numbers and they either didn't have or it was under a different name which raised more concerns. I began to look elsewhere and found someone who was a licensed contractor but they refused to come over and look at it before giving me a quote and were not going to be able to do the work for another couple of weeks. Finally I found Mister Chimney (licensed and bonded in California #1160652) and was able to schedule an inspection right away. Martin (the owner) came over and inspected it himself. I showed him where the other chimney service providers had accessed the roof but he insisted on another access point so as to avoid damaging the rain gutters despite the fact that it was a much higher and more difficult access point (the other chimney service providers didn't even consider and sure enough had done some damage to the rain gutters). Martin was able to inspect and give me a quote on the spot and scheduled the work to be done that week. The guys who came over and did the work did a great job and the cost matched the quote which was very fair and below the cost the other chimney service providers quoted. I only wish I would have found Mister Chimney sooner.
