ORIGINAL: A guy from Mr Chimney came promptly to check out my gas fireplace on a Monday. The fireplace was basically stuck on ignition, and the fire wouldn't light. Two weeks later I haven't gotten a single update on what needs to be done to repair my fireplace. I follow-uped with Mr Chimney myself by calling at least 4 times on different days, only to be told I'd get a call back- but no call back. We reached out to Mister Chimney to schedule a cleaning and our log lighter burner pipe replacement, and got an appointment for the following day. Martin arrived on time and did a thorough cleaning and inspection of the chimney. He also looked at the burner pipe, took some pictures and said he will be back in a few hours with the part. A couple of hours later, Martin is back with a new burner pipe and air mixer. Unfortunately, the previous one was so old and from a different standard, that the new one would not fit in. Martin did remove it and took it with him to try and find another pipe that would fit in our fireplace. An hour later, Martin is back again with another part, and after a few adjustments and elbow grease, we now have a new burning pipe in a clean fireplace! We changed our wood burning fireplace to a gas insert. Mr Chimney had the best yelp reviews and we decided to go with them. Kevin who was our sales rep visited and recommended the size and brand we should go in for. We found him warm, knowledgeable and very responsive. A fireplace makeover is not an easy task as you need to pull a gas line, electric line etc. Kevin gave us a drawing which made it simple to follow. Our electrician insisted on keeping the box at the base and we reached out to Kevin by text who advised us to change to the wall. This business is very busy but they do their best to respond in a timely manner. Had two very positive experiences with this provider. The first was for them to clean my chimney and wood stove after we moved into our new home because it was not clear to us how recently the prior owners had cleaned it. The cleaner was on time, professional and did a good and efficient job of cleaning the chimney as well as the fireplace. He also provided some cleaning tips for how often to clean various parts of the stove and blower components. Soon after the cleaning, the glass front plate of our stove broke due to my own negligence in loading wood. A team came out, cleaned out the old glass, installed the new glass, and cleaned the stove for us. They did the job quickly and professionally and did a great job of cleaning up afterward. I would note that I contacted several chimney cleaners and retailers and this was the only company that took on the job. I'm very glad to have my wood stove working again and looking good. Good morning. I recently had a bidd on a simple job that was written by Martin. Everyone is polite, professional, and somewhat thorough in their work. However, there is a communication problem that developed when the repair man came out. All he did was pull the small cap off the top of the chimney and put lid on top and was here about 30 minutes. I told him that they were to take off the whole cone, take a piece of flat metal, attach it to the existing metal with screws and seal it with caulking around it. He put me on the phone with Martin and basically he told me there must have been a communication problem. The bill for this 30 minute work was $225.00. I was told by the worker that if they had to do the other work it might be about $700.00. If you use this company be sure that Martin writes down everything you talked about and gives you a simple drawing of the work being done. read more
