I would not recommend this company. Our Montigo gas fireplace has been giving out a low flame, so I reached out for a quote. In response I got the "high volume of emails, give us a call". Not a big deal, I saw the many high rated reviews so I didn't think much of it at the time. I tried calling a few times with voicemails until I finally reached someone a few days later. She was kind and helpful and scheduled us for an appointment for two weeks out. The day of the appointment (12/12) gets here and we're excited to get things moving. The technician arrived late, seemed a little out of it, and was not super polite. He immediately tells me "we don't work on these fireplaces, they should have told you over the phone". (Meanwhile there's a logo for Montigo on their truck, but whatever.) The technician proceeds with checking out our fireplace, opens up the front panel and looks around, and then tells me that the system is all clogged up, it's a two man job, and that it would take all day. He told me he "would need to check with the boss lady" to see if they could work on it, and that she would call me the next day. By this point he closed up our unit and was in a rush to leave even as I was trying to ask him questions and make sense of it all. I was honestly gobsmacked. After two weeks of waiting, the tech was in our home for not even ten minutes! I called the office two days after his visit to follow up and got nothing. I truly do not understand why this place receives good reviews. I have been dealing with them since AUGUST on an issue where they have been giving me the run around (we need to order the part, it is on backorder), and at the end of the day, I found out they didn't even diagnose the problem correctly. Here's the back story: I moved into a new place with two gas fireplaces. I wanted them to be cleaned and serviced before I used them, and I picked this company (foolishly) because of all the reviews on Yelp. The initial person came out to clean both fireplaces, and said that one needed a new module that they had to order. Fine, it is August, and I won't need to use the fireplace anytime soon. They finally get the module in November (I have to call several times to check in) and come back to install - meanwhile, the other fireplace they also were paid to clean and service isn't working. (Both these fireplaces were installed in 2016; they are not old and are high quality). Then, in November, when the person comes back to install the new module on fireplace #1, he says the other fireplace needs a new module. Huh, that's strange. Another $300 or so and potentially months waiting for a part? At this point, it is freezing in the Bay Area, and my place is cold. I keep calling wanting an update only for them to finally admit they are not a Valor fireplace dealer (note: If you have a Valor fireplace DO NOT USE THEM) and that they needed to order parts through another supplier. Then, I get smart and look up a Valor dealer in SF, where I live, and as it turns out, I locate the person who installed the fireplaces in my place seven years ago. He comes out and clearly knows everything and remembers the install (it is an unusual 1900s building) and says, the problem with the fireplace is not the module - it needs a new ignition wire which is burnt (he shows it to me). Of course, the lovely NOVA/Mister Chimney guys never did that, but they did charge me for cleaning etc. Then, this other fireplace person goes on the roof and says, here's the problem, the cap either fell off or rotted off - it is not going to work regardless because of these two issues (the ignition wire, which he fixes and NOVA never detected, and the cap on the roof) and not the module, though he replaces that at my request to switch out the remotes. Meanwhile, I consistently call NOVA and they keep saying they will check on the status and call me back. It is now January, my last call to them was December 27 where they assured me they would get back to me with an update within a day. I do want to say their service people are nice and professional. They truly are lovely. However, they charged me $700 and six months later, one of my fireplaces still didn't work, and wasn't going to work if I had kept waiting with them. My sense is that they are not Valor specialists, and should SAY THAT UP FRONT AND REFER PEOPLE TO THOSE WHO ARE.... read more

They installed my fireplace a couple of years ago and serviced it during that time. However, the remote control for the fireplace stopped working. After many messages and emails, I finally got someone to come out. The initial diagnosis was that it needed a new coupling. After several attempts to fix the coupling, they told me that wasn't the issue and that they would need to bring in another person to diagnose it. After waiting for a few more months, they informed me that I needed a whole new system for $2,000. Seeking a second opinion from another company, they diagnosed the problem within 5 minutes and fixed it in the same amount of time. Mister Chimney / Nova charged me almost $400 for a cleaning and diagnosis. It didn't need cleaning because they had serviced it within the same year of it breaking down. So I was charged for a cleaning that it didn't need and an improper diagnosis. I've contacted the company directly to discuss their misdiagnoses but haven't heard back, hence my Yelp review. I had Nova Fireplaces install a gas fireplace insert a while back. I thought the workers did a decent job. They had a challenging time drilling through the flooring to connect the gas line. I hope all is well under the house. The part I wasn't happy about was the top they secured to the chimney for venting. It was crimped on and looked very sloppy imo. The owner Martin assured me that it wouldn't leak, but every time I saw it, I had to wonder, so I discussed it with Martin again. He decided to get a piece fabricated to fit on the top of the chimney instead of what was on there currently. I can say it looks much better now and more importantly, leak proof. I give Nova Fireplaces 5 stars based on Martin providing excellent customer service and doing his best to deliver his product with the customer's satisfaction as his priority. read more
