I used to go here all the time with my friends and purchase at least $50 worth of CD's at a time. This store is by no means cheap. The owner is extremely friendly, and needs to be there more. As for his son, he's going to drive the business into the ground, along with his mother. His son isn't very social, and his mother is the most condescending person I've ever met. They give you close to nothing for what you trade in (I'm talking a quarter per CD or DVD, regardless of condition or rarity) and charge you $9 for a USED CD. I'll be going to Looney Tunes from here on out, where they have a membership card that offers plenty of coupons, notifications of the weeks album releases, and upcoming concerts. This place has been around for as long as I can remember and remains a friendly, organized, resourceful and rich source of used CDs/vinyls and DVDs. If you're trying to sell your stuff to them, you'll get more value in store credit than cash. Over the phone, they told me they typically pay 25 to 50 cents per CD, maybe a dollar if it's a very desired one. I ended up ditching 3 CDs out of the lot I brought in and got $5 store credit that I used right away. read more

Cheapo has been around for years and I have been a regular customer for quite some time. On the positive side, the place does have a great variety of media including a large selection of used vinyl, CD and DVD. The owner will always see if they can obtain something that may not be on site. Certainly enough at the Commack and Mineola locations to keep you busy browsing for hours at a time. The hired staff are innocuous zombies and will point you in the right direction if you are looking for something in particular. Unfortunately if you are planning to take a long drive to browse as a collector, there are a bunch of negatives. The inventory control processes put in place on the used CDs ensures that you will never know what you will end up with when you get to the counter. The efficient staff member will run to the back of the store and find a similar copy, slap that disc in your case and re-stock the browsers with the jewel case that your disc came from. There are other strange swaps going on too with overstocks. I found a nice as new copy (still in the jewel case!) of a CD for $2.99. Disc was brand new and artwork looked untouched. Staff member runs to the back and replaces it with a CD with a water stained booklet and a trashed CD. Watch for sleeve swaps on the vinyl too. Nice mono covers with newer pressings abound. Beware the Russian pirate two-fer CDs too. As noted in other reviews, the folks that run the place are not the friendliest. The owner is OK, but the rest of his family are just plain rude. Don't get in the way of the woman doing the restocking. You are not a valued customer, you are in her way, so move. A real shrew. The owner's son is not very personable either. read more

Gosh darn it, I gotta give this place 4 stars because I would walk over there as a young grasshopper and check out the latest cd's. I would then on occasion head over to the pizza joint in the same shopping center. But besides the memories, the cd's really aren't very cheap at all. They don't have a huge selection but will special order anything you want. They also have some posters and stuff like that to buy. Check out the place if ever in the neighborhood. :-) read more

This place is legit for vinyl. Huge selection of CD's too, video games etc. but the vinyl selection is awesome. Prices are good. If you are serious about vinyl, this place will satisfy your thirst. read more

Tiny shop tucked away in a major shopping mall. They have every genre you can imagine with a mixture of collectibles and regular mainstream music that is often heard on the radio today. You can sell your old album and CDs but you won't get much money in return. Basically enough to but you a slice of pizza or two. You're better off taking the store credit option if you want to buy something in there. read more

After being to every record store on Long Island, Mr. Cheapo is still the best. The selection is fantastic and they are constantly getting in new stock. Most albums are priced competitively. The staff is friendly and eager to help. It's just a fun place to go to. read more

Not only does this place sell cd's, but you can also trade your old ones in for either store credit or cash. It's a fairly small store, so there is usually only one or two employees working but they always make it a point to help you. If you can't find what you are looking for, they will order it. Have spent over $2,000 dollars in this place over the past 2 years. I go there at 5:55PM. door wide open, lights on. On Sunday (they close at 6). I walked in, i wanted a poster they have in the back. I was not there 5 seconds when one of the attendees tells me they are closing and immediately proceeded to shut the lights off in my face, as I am flipping through the posters. Needless to say I was outraged and asked him why he did that, to which he replied he was closing. If the store is closed, doors should not be open with lights on. The rudeness is so not necessary. Mr. Rudeness has lost a good customer for life..and her husband... and their kids. read more

Mrs Cheapo is downright rude and Nasty. They give nothing in return for trade ins. The prices for used LP's and cd's have gone up and I would rather shop at LOONEY TUNES as they have more at better prices and LOONEY TUNES treats their customers nice. Used to like to come to Mr. Cheapos but that was in the 90's. The last 7 years or so, they have been on a steady diet of nasty and as of Sept 2012, I will not go there EVER again. Nasty, mean ole Mrs Cheapo. Mr Cheapo has changed as well. Now he just sits behind the rows of albums staring menacingly at customers. OMG they are gonna steal an empty jewel case lmao. read more

LOVE Mr. Cheapo's! Now that actual record stores are rare, some of them have inflated prices and arrogant attitudes. Not Mr. Cheapo's, they have an old-school feel of a store you like to hang out at, with a wide selection and helpful staff. I've preordered some special vinyl items, they always give me a great deal. Plus I'm on their email list and they send me coupons all the time. And their $1 vinyl bins are my guilty pleasure. read more

I've been a long time customer and while they aren't "cheap" you can get a fair amount of used cd's for $2.99. I'm writing this because I purchased a Pink Floyd poster and when he brought out the poster I noticed a large and highly noticeable damaged area to the poster, he noticed it too and started to roll it up for me, I said can you get me another one? ok he says, goes in the back gets another one that he's already rolled up with rubber band, I buy it and leave, when I went to unroll at home I realize it's the damaged one I asked him to exchange! wtf? why would he deliberately do that? I returned it. Also I purchased a used Metallica cd among others and when I got home and played it, it skipped throughout, not only that I noticed it was a burned copy, not an original despite being sold as such, it was not sold as a bootleg, also the liner had been copied. They wouldn't let me return it. The female that works there is quite unfriendly and condescending toward my children. I will no longer waste my time or gas driving there, I can get items cheaper and have a better experience on-line. Hopefully another vinyl/record store reopens in East Northport where the other burned read more
