This place has not changed since I was a kid. If you want records this is the place to go. Great selection and something for all musical tastes. They also have old school games, DVDS, you name it. Service was polite though we didn't buy anything. Value certainly depends on what you're buying - some items seemed super reasonable while others pretty pricey (ie. A Tupac record for $70). read more

Mr Cheapo Cd & Record Exchange - The Clash?! Leonard Cohen?! Can't go wrong with either. - Music & DVDs Near Me - Commack, New York

Great finds. Welcoming and willing to help you find your preferred choice. They're a library of music, and great knowledge. Take a trip and enjoy yourself. read more

It was the first record store I have ever been to so not much to compare it to. Nice guy behind the counter who helped with a few questions I had. I got a few records for my husband's birthday and they were exactly what I was looking for. Seemed like you could dig through their records for a while. read more

Consoles are too expensive to buy make it cheap if it's used and old if it's built in box and never been open, it could be expensive

There isn't really anything cheap about this store any longer unless you want common 99 cent used DVD's like Twilight or Fifty Shades of Grey. I've tried really hard to buy music here but it doesn't make sense. Beware the older woman who organizes and alphabetizes the sheves, god forbid you put one back in the wrong spot. read more

Best record shop I've been to on Long Island. The staff is extremely friendly, the selection of records is very vast, and the prices were very fair. The clearance section had great vinyls for extremely cheap, and all the records I bought were in great condition. Will definitely be back! read more

Greatest place to find new and vintage cd music along with a vast variety of vinyl music anywhere ! Rock on down !

I've always prided myself on supporting small businesses but this store was rude and not truthful. My wife called to see if they had an album I was looking for. They said yes so I came down to buy it. When I got there they said they couldn't sell it today because it was a special for "record day". I understand this policy however they failed to mention it when my wife called. I obviously would have waited till tomorrow. The person on the phone was very nice however the older person that wouldn't sell it to me was rude and grouchy. He wasn't even apologetic. I've been shopping there for as long as I can remember but won't be going back. read more

One of my all-time favorite vinyl record stores! They let you carefully check condition before buying, which I recommend.

Everyone is so helpful here and the price is definitely right!! I just got so many kids dvds for what it would cost to buy 2 at full price. I love the record selection is really great too! Have a huge variety so everyone could find something they like. read more

Great selection and prices. Helpful staff. I was visiting the area and this type of store is exactly what I was looking for as I'm always looking to fill gaps in my CD collection. read more

A bit expensive but still fair priced. Conditions of records most vg to vg+. Many cheap records

This is a local treasure. The staff is very knowledgeable and there is gold hidden in the stacks of albums and discs. Family-owned, a Commack staple HIGHLY RECOMMENDED read more

I recently got into collecting Vinyl, and many would think that those would be hard to come by, but not here. Mr. Cheapo's has a great selection of vinyls (old and new), CD's. video games, VHS, DVD's and blu-rays. Their employees are very knowledgeable, and even told me a few things I never knew. They have a program where every $20 you spend you get a punch on your punch card. The 10th one you get free $20. I was annoyed when the other Mr. Cheapo's in Mineola wouldn't honor my 10th punch because it had ended, but I called up this location and they told the man to honor it. Don't worry, the program is still up and running. My only problem with Mr. Cheapo's is the music is so loud in there. Join their mailing list and you always see a 20% coupon read more

My go-to record store! Friendly staff, great selection and good prices. I always find an album that I want whenever I go in.

If a store has a generally continuous 20% off sale it is a direct indication that the normal prices are too high!..... I went to the store during a sale promoted as anything in the store 20% off... I know the used stuff is priced high due to past visits and logging my purchases into Discogs so I went for what I normally buy the new release (mostly unlicensed bootleg stuff you can't get at other respectable stores) while cashing out and purchasing close to 200 dollars worth of stuff the owners son at the counter scoffed at the fact I was buying all new stuff as if I broke the laws..... he in fact pointed me to a smiths record which was an old press that was three times the amount of the reissue I was purchasing.... Since I am a collector I grabbed the record.... But all in all was a very unprofessional and disrespectful way of carrying on business........ go to better stores in the area like record reserve if you wanted to be treated fair and kindly...... read more

I love this place. They have some great cds. I will bring my lps down there and see what they will give me.

I've been a customer many years and it a great source of rare and used records and cd's of all genera's plus some memorabilia. I constantly find hard to come by box sets and other items. Not all of the music is used, there is a large quantity of new records, cds and rarities. The nicer part is they are guaranteed to work. read more

Plenty of new and used albums, CDs...all genres. Staff always helpful in answering questions. If they don't have something in stock, they'll research if its available for order. It's rare that I walk out of there empty handed. read more

Been shopping here since the 80s and always pay a fraction of the list price for cds, dvds, blu rays. Best value in recorded music and video. Why rent a season of GOT when you can own it forever for a LOT LESS!?? Browse the stacks and you will find unexpected gems. If you need a new release they have it or they will order it for you. read more

My favorite record store on Long Island. Great selection and super helpful staff. They have something for everyone. Pop in and you'll never know what you might find :) read more

Staff was dismissive and annoyed with me wanting to exchange videos and music books for money. It says on their website that they sell videos but they wouldn't buy any, let alone even look at what I had. I showed them a stack of music books to which they said "20 cents", I asked "20 cents total?" and then they said they might not even take them at all. Very noncommittal and cold. I didn't even look around the store at all. Buy your stuff elsewhere and sell it elsewhere if need be. They truly are cheapos! read more

Love this place. Sold many CDs here at a fair price. Love browsing the shelves and chatting with the pleasant and knowledgeable staff.

Long Island isn't exactly the best place for a good used music store (FYE, Best Buy, etc. are generally all we get). Cheapo's isn't always what its name suggests, but it still doesn't mean you can't find a good deal on some hard-to-find stuff. Deluxe Editions generally run about $20 a pop, whereas used single discs go between $6.99 - $9.99 depending on quality. Crappy CD's cost $2.99 each (or 4 for $10). I don't even go near the new CD section as it's expensive and not particularly up to date. The big draw is that they've got some cool "imports" and bootlegs that are tough to find elsewhere. They also have flats, posters, stickers, shirts and patches for sale. All-in-all, the prices could be better but the selection is diverse enough where I usually find something I want each time I visit. read more

I went in hoping to find a some Black Eyed Peas cd's at a reasonable price. The store is ok sized and is stacked with cd's, records & dvds floor to sealing They carry mostly used cd's and dvd's. There were three workers there all very friendly and willing to help find anything you needed. I asked one of the men behind the counter if they had the cd's i was looking for, As i could not find them. A lot of the items are mixed up so sometimes its hard to find things the guy said. But he new exactly were they were. They had a few of the tittles i wanted used, Unfortunately the prices for the used were as much as if iI bought them brand new on Ebay. The guys in there were very friendly and to be honest, If you were looking to get something hard to find they properly have it. As far as buying a regular cd the prices are way to high to justify buying from them. I give them 4 stars because a lot of customers might want some old cd or record album that is no longer made and they might have it. read more

If I could sum up one word to describe why I will continue to be a regular customer here - or at least as much as my storage space at home and gas prices will allow - LASERDISCS. Oh, they've got 'em. Between this location and the one in Mineola I've amassed a collection of about 30 laserdiscs from my original collection of 6. The staff is friendly. I haven't interacted with them much beyond handing them my credit card and allowing them to charge it. read more

Cozy little shop with a wide array of CDS, DVDs, Blu-rays, tapes and of course records!! Staff seemed friendly, prices were fair, and the selection of records skewed towards used and classic rock but still some great finds to be discovered here. read more

Back in the days of the longbox it was great for new releases, if you were ahead of the curve you could find it here cheap-o. Good bootlegs, promos and singles, and they still have the vast collection of discs but the prices suck. They offer "yogi" cds (the stuff that sucked when it came out 10 years ago) for $2.99 each or 4 for $10. The only upside is they have a nice collection of used vinyl and some cool flats, posters and pictures for sale. I was in about two weeks ago but didn't buy anything. Ideally, I'd like to "support independent record stores" but I don't feel good about spending my money here anymore. 2 other yelpers comment on their silly prices. Maybe Cheapos should get with the program and give music away for free. Like we wanna "own" this shit! read more

Love this place. It's the only shop I go to get my vinyl on. Excellent folks, great collection and knowledge. Don't hesitate.

One day my daughter asked about vinyl records. I went out and purchased her a turntable. We've thrifted, went to garage sales, but NOTHING beats Mr Cheapos. You will find what you want WHEN you want it. A fun rummage through the store will get you what you want --and things you didnt know you wanted until you found it. Give 'em a try! read more
