Do not go here!!! cake has a nasty chemical taste. I have gotten a couple cakes from here in the past and each time there was a nasty chemical taste. the last time I ordered cake I specifically told them i wanted a plain white cake because I thought the chemical taste was due to the food coloring in the frosting. unfortunately I was wrong. the chemical taste was still there and cake was so bad nobody could even eat it. the taste of chemicals was so overwhelming. A new bakeshop has opened in Castle Hill so I had very high hopes. Decor/ambience gets 5 stars. Jazz music was playing and the bakery resembles one you would see in a more upscale neighborhood. The actual baked goods are just ok. The coconut macaroon was delicious. I also had the almond cake and vanilla cupcake which were just ok. The icing for the vanilla cupcake was different and tasty. But the actual cake for both was on the bland side. I feel like they could look up and try some better recipes. The service was fine. Wasn't great, wasn't bad. I'm not a fan of the paper bags they gave us our pastries in. I prefer to be given a small box to protect the pastry from being squished. Especially since I was handed two small paper bags to carry individually. It's a bit cumbersome to carry around like that. The prices are decent, the only thing I thought was a bit overpriced was the cheescake. It was $3 a slice, but the slice was really thin and small. They also have empanadas, hot sandwiches, and bagels. Overall, this bakery is a nice change of pace from the other shops in the neighborhood. I hope to see this business grow because I love cake and once I find something I really love, I'd be a loyal customer. This is a cute small bakery. I am happy to have a nice café on Castle Hill Avenue. I have tried a couple of things on the menu and I've had good experiences. It is small there's enough seats for about 3-4 people. They play nice music. It seems like they are constantly changing staff because I have not been helped with the same person more than once. -The empanadas are good -The espresso is good quality -Cake pops are tasty -Brownies -Hot chocolate I have mixed feelings about I have ordered it 3 times. 1st time tasty, 2nd time yucky and 3rd time just ok. read more

I have been getting good food here since the place opened. I have had the organic salad (with and without chicken), the hot chicken sandwhich, and many of the pastries and cakes. When it was my mothers birthday I also brought a birthday cake from Vladimir's. Most of the time, the food is perfect. Once in a while I will buy a donut that is a bit hard, or my organic salad will be missing the carrots or beets (I actually think they stopped putting beets in the salad altogether), but when the food is fresh it is always delicious! Some of my favorite pastries are the passionfruit cakes, and the little guava empanada cakes. Both are delicious, and I recommend getting a few (you can buy a few for a dollar), if it is your first time there. I am a big fan of small businesses, especially in the Bronx, and no one is perfect all the time, but this food ranks pretty high in my book. Since there's not much in the way of sweets in my neighborhood, I figured that I might as well try this place out since it's one of the more recent places that opened. Appearance-wise, it looks good. Foodstuffs are arranged so that you'll be able to see most of them the minute you walk in and the color scheme makes it so that the place feels homey and welcoming, like a long-lost blanket. I also have to give props to their pastry decorating skills, I don't see a lot of bakeries that put a lot of effort into making their scratch-made products look more than appealing. However, taste is where the praise dips down a bit. I had ordered a red velvet cupcake and a cheese empanada to eat, two small favorites. The cupcake's frosting was just divine, however, the cake itself was unbelievably bland, save for a slightly sanitary aftertaste. The empanada looked glossy, which I later learned to be a bad sign, and was quite hollow on the inside, making for a disappointing experience. The one saving grace of this whole time was the hot chocolate that they had. Oh. My. God. That shit is seriously good. What makes this home-made blend stand out is that unlike most places where it tastes rich and jittery, it tastes quite earthy and natural, not making me spaz out like usual, instead just calm down and take my time with things. All in all, the hot chocolate is pretty much the whole reason I go there these days. Those of you who want to try the other pastries may want to do so at their own risk. Back when this bakery was named Vladimir the cake was absolutely amazing! But I recently I got the chocolate mousse and I was disappointed. The chocolate mousse and the chocolate sauce it was in was yummy but the actual cake had a weird texture. It was too firm and gritty. I purchased what I believe and asked was a tres leches cake and asked the lady behind the counter if they had them already or if i had to special order one. She claimed that they had them ready so I bought it. To an embarrassing surprise, we cut the cake and find out that it's a pineapple cake, so the very next day my wife and I take a sample of the cake to the shop and the girl behind the counter tries to educate and explain that all their cakes were tres leches but with different fillings and apparently insulted our intelligence, when I asked for the manager she said he would be in about 15 minutes to 5 and didn't attempt to call him on the phone but just kept rudely talking over us and trying to school us on what tres leches is. I even explained to her that the day before I pointed the slices that they sell to the girl who sold me and asked her if it was the same and she told me yes. I even spoke to her in spanish so there would be no translation issue and she still went ahead and charged me 25 dollars for a dry old pineapple filled cake. Obviously they have no customer service skills and betrayed my confidence in their words. Them being the business selling the cakes want to tell me that I have to be explicit on what I want. But who is selling the cakes here me or them. At any rate that will be the last time I walk in that place and would rather drive all the way to bailey where sugar boy treated me with respect and sold me what I asked for. read more

I bought my husband a Dominican birthday cake here yesterday. It was last minute and they only had one dominican cake left. It was plain white, so the lady asked me if I wanted her to decorate it. I asked her to write happy birthday carlos, it took literally about 35 minutes just to do that and when she showed it to me, it looked like my 1 year old son had written it. She noticed and immediately made the excuse that the person that normally decorates their cakes was not there and apologized. Whatever, I dismissed that. When we got home and finally cut the cake, the cake was burned! Like literally with a crunchy and bitter bottom. Needless to say, the 3 pieces we cut went straight to the trash. I packed up the rest of the cake to return it today, believing that after charging me$45.00 for a burned cake, they would be professional enough to give me a refund or worst case scenario at least replace the cake. Well, my husband just took the cake back and was told that the cake is not burned and that this is how they make their cakes and that they don't give refunds! My husband told them to keep their cake! I'm upset that we spent 45.00 on a disgusting, bitter, burned cake, I'm even more upset that they were not professional enough to acknowledge and admit their mistake. Here it is, Noche Buena, Christmas Eve ad my children's mouths are watering because my husband got this beautiful Dominican Cake for desert.........The minute we cut into the cake I knew something was wrong. The top part of the cake was soft then the pineapple filling and the bottom layer was a pasty hard piece that is everything but Dominican. I decided to go back to the store to return it or maybe change it. The young lady who greeted me said to wait that the lady was coming. As I waited I saw her wipe her nose with her bare hands. The man who I believe was the owner was very nice as I was explaining to him and showing him this half baked cake the boss lady started yelling and telling me that just because I didn't like it I should take it. "You buy it you keep it! Just because you don't like it you don't come back with it" I told her to give me my money back & she didn't have to worry about me or my friends about the treatment I got. Finding this bakery was a fortunate accident; great product in a very nice space! Too many good things to choose from but I bought only 2: tres leches with guayaba, and dulce de leche. Both were delicious--great REAL taste, not sugary and manufactured. Oh, and also a great price! read more
