Sometimes places deserve second chances. Maybe after 3 years they would've improved. That is not the case. I ordered online and was given a pickup time of 9:02PM, 30 minutes after order time. I arrive at exactly 9 and wait for the server who directs me to the bar, then the bar lady. I get my food and bring it 3 minutes to my apartment. It's VERY clear they do not season meat or make their own tomato sauce. It's also VERY clear they made the order quickly and it sat for 15-20 minutes at minimum. Soggy chips likely due to moisture from sitting. Cold dishes from sitting. And of course, plain tomato sauce and unseasoned badly purchased ground beef. How do you get ground beef so fine? The chips n salsa were great to start of course. I ordered the vegetarian combo, bean burrito, bean tostada and a cheese enchilada, and had to add some of their yummy quest on top of the burrito. Ordered the special that's supposed to be chile relleno and a taco. There was a pile of meat smothered in cheese on my plate. Poked around and finally found a tiny piece of jalapeño under the cheese. Chile relleno is made with poblano peppers that are battered and stuffed with meat and cheese, but apparently they don't know that. And they call that hard shell thing a taco?? We visited Mr. cactus on a busy evening before Christmas. We had called ahead for reservations we were seated immediately. Drink orders were taken three time. Not sure what the problem was but apparently bitters and soda we required three people to come. Ask me what I wanted three different times. That aside, the food was good served in short order and hot. I have a concern about there being dried food on the silverware. But throwing caution to the wind, I wiped it off with my napkin, and continued to enjoy the evening. Three days later both me and my husband were sick. I can't say for certain that it was a transfer from the dirty silverware but I will be flippant. Next time I see dried food on my cutlery the ambience is energetic, fun, noisy. Wow! Easily my favorite Mexican restaurant on this side of the country. I've travel for a living and this place is by far my favorite this side of the Mississippi! Drink menu and food menu have everything you could ever ask for and then some. Very diverse! First, they have real fresh margaritas. No nasty, surgery spur mix out a bottle. Actual fresh squeezed limes, good 100% agave tequila, and agave nectar. They are fabulous and worth every penny. I've had the Bistec a la Mexicans, Chori Pollo, and the Molcajete. All were fantastic and the best I've had in the area by far. Ordered fresh guacamole that was fantastic as well. Customer service is phenomenal!!! The owner is working here all the time and checking on everyone in the restaurant. You can see he takes a lot of pride and joy in his establishment. All the staff I encountered was extremely attentive and very friendly. They may be the nicest people on the planet. Food came out very fast every time. I literally have no complaints. We had a casual date night at Mr. Cactus and had a good time. There was no wait when we arrived on a pouring afternoon, but it did get busier shortly afterwards. Our waitress handed us the menus and we looked over the long list of dishes. I wasn't interested in appetizers this time, however, the hubster ordered Crazy Fries; he did leave out the guacamole and pico de gallo, so there wasn't much excitement left on that plate. I ordered The Golden Hour alcoholic beverage and it was quite tasty, and had a good alcohol volume. For my dinner entreé I ordered the Mole Con Pollo (always so excited to see it on Mexican menus) and hubby ordered the California Burrito - it was huge. The mole was alright, not spicy, which was helpful to my palette, but did lack some flavor. Maybe I was expecting too much - if someone knows where they make a very good mole in the Upstate, please let me know; thankx! Usually, he can finish a California burrito without a problem, but this time he was struggling. He definitely enjoyed it, but it was massive. The best part of this date night was humorous when the waitress thought we were done eating and asked, if we wanted one check. I must have had a distraught look on my face, because she became concerned right away and asked whispering, "2 checks?" - date night gone wrong, haha. That wasn't the reason for my distress though, because I really wanted to order dessert. I reassured her that one check was fine, but that I wanted to get some churros. After that it was smooth sailing again. It was such a funny situation that we've come across that it became our internal joke for the rest of the time we were there. Those churros with the chocolate sauce dripped over them. So yum! The restaurant was definitely packed by the time we left, which made me glad that we showed up early and by the time we paid and left the rain had slowed down significantly. I would definitely come back and try more of their dishes since there are so many of them. The Don Chuy's Carne Asada sounds good; I love enchiladas and I think some menu items even feature actual cactus. They also have a handful of vegetarian dishes, but not sure, if they pass for vegans. I almost forgot to mention that they also carry Horchata - I certainly love this drink! Can't find them in every Mexican restaurant in the area though. Always a plus. On March 21st myself and 6 other ladies planned a celebration for a recent nursing grad. Upon deciding where to start we were told Mr. Cactus is fun and has a DJ on Fridays. We go, wait an hour to be seated. After being seated and very hungry I give the waiter my drink and food order and he rudely tells me that he is only taking by drink order. After approx. 30 min he finally takes the food order. I ordered empanadas. The food comes out and my plate consisted of 3 tacos with freezer style chicken strips. I told the waiter this is not what I ordered and her told me that I pointed to that in the menu. In an attempt to keep the party vibe, I said, its fine. I take 1 bite, and it is TERRIBLE! I flagged the waiter and told him I do not want this. He does not speak, takes my food and walks away. He returns a few min later to inform me very bluntly that I am going to be charged for the plate of food. I'm Shocked!!!!!!! I let him know quickly I will not be paying for food I did not order and did not eat. He argues then walks away comes back a few min later and tells me that I will not be charged but that I was the one at fault. WE ARE ALL STARRING AT EACH OTHER IN DISBELIEF!!!!!!!!! I WAS NOT OFFERED, ASKED, ANYTHING! Treated like an enemy of the state. I flag him down and ask him, are you going to offer me anything eat or is it your policy to leave a customer with nothing to eat and furious???? I tell him I worked in food service for years and I have never in all my life had this BIZARRE OF AN EXPERIENCE NOT TO MENTION THE ENTIRE TABLE IS ANGRY AND SCRATCHING THEIR HEAD IN DISBELIEF. He only argues stating I pointed to the wrong thing on the menu. We then ask for the manager who has a completely different story. He states that I ordered something that IS not on the menu. So you have one story and the waiter has another. Okay???? So how is it I say Empanadas to the waiter, who then takes down my order of empanadas, of which the entire table heard me say empanadas and says nothing to the contrary. The manager was rude, arrogant, cared nothing at all about what we were saying. This only frustrated everyone at the table even more! He offered not one oz of customer service or professionalism. This is the point at which I decided to return the favor and leave them with my tab of $6 for 2 draft beers. You are telling me I am going to be charged for food I did not order and did not eat offer me nothing in return. Then I will leave the check for 2 beers I did drink. My friends paid their tab, walk out and we get the manager attention then. He runs out into the parking lot demanding I pay my tab and also states that one of us has left their phone which he has in his hand and add he is not giving it back until the tab is paid. The owner of the phone quickly reminds him that she paid her bill and demands her phone back! He gives her the phone back. I tell him I am not paying for anything. He says he is calling the police. I said, by all means, call them. I got in my car pull out of my parking space and they are running behind me taking pictures of my license plate and car. My friend, who was later coming out and paid her tab, was bombarded by the manager, another male worker and a female worker bullying and insulting her. The police show up to Mr. Cactus on a Friday night for a $6 bill. After my friend explained what had transpired, the police even told the manager they should have comped the check. I have enjoyed the flavors here at Mr. Cactus For a time...... my family and friends frequent the establishment. Recently was disappointed with an order I needed to place for pick up. Mother's homecoming after hospital visit. Placed a large dinner order with their special guacamole and several dinner items.... and a large order of chips only received a small order of salsa.... 4 oz. they said that is all we need for a take out order. if we want more salsa the we need to dine in or pay for more than 4 oz. ... did not think I needed to reason the cost of salsa...much of it is wasted in house .... another 4 oz on a large order "to go" is unreasonable? Well come to find out it is. Gently spoke with the owner .. he stood his ground on the salsa. he listened and said it was a priveledge to dine in for salsa.... it's part of the experience. I said I don't understand but if that is his policy .... I guess that is his perogative..... but then the employee with him that took my order moments later started to laugh at snickered at my request. customer service was not kindly given. We frequent with friends and family and have always tipped well and enjoyed our time there but from now on, because of that experience and disrespect ..... it is the little things that make a difference. The one that took my order and chose sarcasm with other employees. I'm not thin skinned, but professionalism and customer service. I would give them a negative... Very negative review. This place is awesome! We just moved to Easley and have been looking for some great local restaurants so we decided to try this place out. We went on game day so it was pretty busy and we were told there was a 25 minute wait. No problem. We were seated within 10 minutes! The service throughout our meal was great and fast but we didn't feel rushed. We were super impressed with how fast everything came to the table. The food was AMAZING! First, my medium mango margarita was huge and they do not skimp on the alcohol. The Burrito Mr. Cactus was so flavorful with chicken, shrimp, and chorizo inside. The beans and rice were great too. My husband enjoyed the California Burrito as well and said it was kinda like a kitchen sink burrito because it has everything in it. Steak, chicken, beans, peppers, onions, rice, guac, sour cream, etc. We were so impressed with Mr. Cactus and can't wait to come back!
