Korean barbecue not only for the vibe, it has a great music, but the service is absolutely the best service anywhere. I have been to thirsty cow, gen, rib co, gangham station, RH, and a few others. And while places like Rib Co, and thirsty Cow may have higher quality meat options, because rib co has a tomahawk and cherry smoked LA Galbi, and thirsty cow has a dry aged menu and Wagyu menu, I still prefer this place. the quality of the meat is the same. They're just missing those high priced items, but they more than make up for it with their service. I feel welcome when I go there. Everyone remembers me and my wife and my children. This spot has been living in my bookmarks for the longest time !! Unfortunately the location is off the beaten trail for us (from Irvine) & the wait times are always hours long !! Well on our anniversary it called for a special dinner & we chose this spot ! It landed on a weekday so I was thinking there wouldn't be a wait. I also checked Yelp before getting to the restaurant which was deceiving since it said there was a 0 min wait time hmm... When we got there we were lucky to get the *last* parking spot ! & there already were groups waiting. We ended up waiting 32 minutes which really isn't too bad. Right away I was very impressed with the ambiance ! I've been to many kbbq spots la & oc - & this one tops them all ! It has the music, the lighting, & the TV's !! (if you can't leave home because your game is on... have no fear watch it here !) Our server was awesome & so patient ! Most kbbq places have a maximum of ordering only 3 meats at a time rule - not Mr. BBQ. For the first round we got all the fixings (onions, garlic, extra rice paper, bean paste, etc) + lots of meat. One thing I did not like was the soda was in can form - when I go to a restaurant I prefer a fountain soda - yes they do taste different. I am very boring when it comes to kbbq & usually only stick to brisket & beef belly. Both were so delicious !!! The beef belly was my favorite, so perfectly THINLY sliced & marbled to perfection. YUM!!!!! I also want to note that during our visit we brought in an infant metal cup - 4 oz size. It was used by my 9 month old. I was very forgetful & I left the cup on the table. I didn't remember the cup until we were just about home. I called the restaurant the next day to check lost & found. I even gave the name of our server, & the cup wasn't there. I even mentioned to check the kitchen since metal cups were used for water but the person on the phone explained they don't bring other items back to the kitchen that doesn't belong to the restaurant. This is by far the best AYCE KBBQ I've been to. The meat quality is very good!!! Sides are all solid. The service here is also top notch. They're team works well together delivering the best customer service experience I've experienced at a AYCE KBBQ. Restaurant is rather loud with music playing, sports playing, drinks, etc. Parking can be tough though but there are options nearby. Great food, but my last visit was disappointing I've been to Mr. Barbecue several times (this was probably my 3rd or 4th visit), and up until now, I've always loved it here. The food is usually delicious, the service is friendly, and it's been one of my go-to spots for Korean barbecue. Unfortunately, after my most recent visit, me and two friends I was dining with ended up getting food poisoning. This was really disappointing because I've always had good experiences in the past. TLDR: One of the better KBBQ spots in OC. The lines can get crazy long but it's worth it if you get in line early enough. The prices are reasonable and the choices are plentiful. It's definitely a place I wouldn't mind returning to. 1. Beef Brisket: Solid, flavorful, and we didn't get a batch that started out frozen. It's not the best brisket that I've had but it's up there. 2. Marinated Ribeye: Not too sweet yet very flavorful. This is a very good palate cleanser for me. 3. Beef Belly: Use this to oil up the pan. What I love about this is that the portions are not too fatty. I still prefer the brisket over this, but I'm sure a good percentage of people will prefer this. 4. Top sirloin: Best of the bunch. Cook this medium medium rare for the best results. The meat is super tender but still offers a steaky bite and taste. 5. Finger short rib: It's salty if you don't remove the seasoning before grilling. Outside of that, it's tender and offers a different taste if you're sick and tired of the other meats. Tofu soup: It's light and loaded with tofu. The spiciness level is low and the sourness is very manageable Steamed egg: Stock standard. I would mix it quick since the bottom gets burnt if you leave it untouched when served. Notable sides: Rice paper- good Spinach- fresh Japchae (glass noodle) - solid Potato salad - kinda sweet but it's a palate cleanser Service: It's very good. Our table was rarely out of food and water was never an issue. Staff checks up on us a lot. Ambiance: It's a KBBQ place with young people in mind. I absolutely love Mr BBQ and if I could go here everyday I would. I used to go to another KBBQ location, but Mr BBQ will be my forever go-to. The staff is usually really nice and tentative to your needs. I love the set up of the restaurant because you don't feel squished on top of other people while eating. Anything that's ordered comes out pretty quick every time. One thing I would suggest is asking for their "secret sauce" it's a game changer. The prices here seem comparable to any other spot, but the service puts them on top compared to other spots. I recently had dinner at Mr. BBQ in Fullerton, and yes, it is pretty popular. There was a wait, like 45 minutes, but that seems normal for any busy Korean BBQ spot I have been to. It's lively inside; it's on the loud side, so that fits with the all-you-can-eat Korean BBQ vibe. The quality of meats was definitely good. Galbi marinated and pork belly were very nice, specifically. Sides were standard but tasted well; banchan was very good to complement the grilled meat. Service is efficient: attentive servers, got what you need, including grill changes where/when needed. 4 stars because service was quite good here, but the food.I mean, it's the same caliber as the other higher-tier KBBQ spots that're around Orange County. The only downside was parking was a little bit hard to find, especially during peak hours. Shout out to our exceptional waitress Claire. She was very welcoming, checked in on us frequently, and took initiative to bring us things that we wanted before we even asked for it. Someone from the table beside me dropped their chopsticks, and she swooped in within seconds to bring them new utensils. I was very impressed! She did her job with genuine happiness, which made the meal so much better. This Korean barbecue place is so good! We got the more expensive menu which was $46.99 and it was worth it. I really like the beef tongue and the kalbi. They give you a lot of bonchon and every Korean barbecue sauce you can imagine. 1. Ambiance and Environment Mr BBQ is a mid-size korean bbq place that's brightly-lit and a very upbeat, club-like, vibrant ambiance. They play upbeat songs (pop, sometimes pop EDM) to energize the place and fill in silences. The speakers play songs very audibly, and you will have to talk with a moderate loudness to the rest of your party so that they can hear you over the music. The exterior is nicely maintained, and the interior is nice and clean. When you enter, there's a waiting area for parties waiting to be called with the restrooms just a couple steps away. The seating areas are nicely spaced away from one another so it doesn't feel packed at all. 2. Food and Drinks The food was great quality here! The meats are seasoned but not overpowered by the seasonings. Like with most KBBQ places, it's all you can eat. However, they typically have smaller servings for the raw meats so you'd probably have to double up if you have a party of 4 or more that are craving the same item (e.g., bulgogi). They have soda cans that you can purchase as drinks in addition to water. For alcoholic beverages, they offer flavored drinks in small and larger servings. Not included in the pictures of this review is a peach drink my party and I tried - which we absolutely loved and would definitely recommend. 3. Service The staff members here were nice and kind, from the hosts to the servers and the bussers. They're all friendly and relaxed even during rush hour. Out of all of them, however, I would say that a server named Gelo would be the stand-out. He was very patient with all of our questions, conversational, funny, extremely hospitable, and very diligent. He also circled back to our table at a good cadence, so we didn't feel rushed or interrupted in our conversations at all - which we absolutely appreciated. His service absolutely made my party and I's day, and it would be fair to say that he's the reason that this review has 5 stars. 4. Pricing Pricing here can be considered more expensive than usual with at least $27/person during the weekday lunch, then at least $37/person at any other time. If you also like to drink soda, it's not included in the price of the meal and you'd have to pay $2 per soda can you'd like to drink. Furthermore, the alcoholic drinks offered are also somewhat expensive for the amount served to you. As such, I'd recommend for you to get it only for celebratory occasions as a treat-yourself type of drink. 5. Restroom The restrooms are cleaned and nicely stocked. For the men's restrooms, there are only two urinals plus one toilet stall, so you may have to be a bit patient during rush hour when guests - both seated and waiting for their tables - are using the restrooms. 6. Parking Mr BBQ has its own parking lot that it doesn't share with any other establishment in the area. Despite this, however, the parking lot will get crowded during rush hour and you will absolutely have a hard time finding parking. THE AYCE KBBQ place everyone knows about given the long wait times! This is by no means a hidden gem, so if you haven't been you need to get here asap. The meat is delicious and so is their ban chan. Their service is pretty quick and the restaurant is spacious and excellent for large groups, but be prepared for long wait times. You can join their yelp waitlist which is handy. By 11:30am, the place got really busy and it got warmer toward 12noon. We ate strawberry ice cream in a cup which tastes really good. No corn cheese or kimchi fried rice. Venue: parking is available, but can be very limited because this place is so popular. Recommend parking somewhere across the street near the 99 Cent store and make sure your car does not get towed away. The inside of the restaurant is colorful, but I didn't get a club scene vibe as another reviewer described. It's family friendly and you can hold a conversation in here without noise issues. Solid AYCE KBBQ spot in the OC. This place is extremely popular so getting on the waitlist is a must. Note that this restaurant requires you to be within 5 miles of the restaurant in order to put yourself on the Yelp waitlist so plan accordingly. We came here on a Friday around 5ish and we waited about 30 minutes after getting on the waitlist. I like that they have a few tables and chairs in the waiting area so we had a place to sit while we waited. After we got a table, a server came by with 17 banchan for our table - 18 if I'm counting the salad. We were ordering 3 per round from the $36.99 PAYCE menu. I like that the servings were small so we were able to try different things each round. My favorites were the USDA Prime Grade Finger Short Ribs, Baby Squid, Marinated Pork Ribs, and Marinated USDA Choice Grade Ribeye. The only dishes I wouldn't get again are the Housemade Steamed Eggs and the Fresh Shrimp. Overall, the food was delicious and the service was superb. The servers were diligent about changing the grill, getting our orders, and removing empty plates from our table. They even offered us ice cream at the end of our meal. My only wish is that the music wasn't blasting so loud in the background as it was hard to have conversations.
