What upsets me the most is their constant text message reminders every 3 months. I've called about 4 times to have my number removed and each time the representative assures me it will be taken care of but nothing changes. I am curious who else they sold my information to. Avoid if you value your privacy and personal identity. Update: The doctor called back and was very pleasant and apologetic. He said he will follow up with the issue on the next business day. I bought a coupon for this place and I plan on returning it! And if it's too late to return, I'll just eat the cost. My experience thus far has NOT been worth it. I have tried calling for weeks trying to get in for an appointment. Either they are on vacation or they don't care about getting new clients. After numerous calls and messages, I still haven't received a call back. In addition, when I did get hold of someone in their office, I was put on hold for over 10 minutes! I bought into what seemed like an amazing student discount! I purchased some frames and glasses for a very low $95. I even added the anti-glare and transition lenses and the total came out to less than $175. However, once I picked up my frames, I noticed that the right temple seemed loose around the hinge. When I saw the company rep at campus, which is were I made my original purchase, the rep was in accordance that they were loose. I went in to the store and had the staff look at the frames, and all they did was tightened the screw and said "that's how they are". About 3 weeks later, the temple became separated from the hinge and the screw was still in place. When I was able to get back into the store, they wanted to charge me half of what I paid to replace the temple; which was something that I had previously brought to their attention and they claim were in perfect working condition. I shouldn't have to pay anything to have the frames repaired when it was clearly defective from the moment I received my frames. Guess I get what I pay for cheap quality cheap service. read more

MPO cares was and is very thorough in what they do. The staff was friendly and answered my questions to best they could. I've been a customer since Dr. Ian for 3 years and still continue to be a customer here at MPO with Dr. Lam. I've purchased 3 pairs of glasses and my husband has purchased 2 from the years there. One of my husband's glasses' frame was loose/detached by my 2 year old's doing. I called MPO and brought it to them and they were able to fix it for me at no extra charge. Another thing what I liked about MPO is that my vision insurance changed and they sat down with me explaining to me what were the benefits etc compared to my old vision insurance. read more

I visited MPO Eye care for an eye exam on Friday and ended up needing glasses on a daily bases. I was told they would place the order that day and would have them for pick up mid week. I had to call, on Thursday, to check on the status. Christina told me they would be there the next day, Friday, at noon. It is now "the next day", 3:50pm, and no phone call. I call, Robert picks up and says, "They just got approved and ready for pick-up!". So where was my phone call??? I wanted to confront my "mid-week" then "Friday noon" promise, but found it pointless... I should have dealt with Lens Crafters, they have an in-office lab. I would have never had to wait, at home, for 8 days, with my eyes closed all day because I need glasses to see. *** Oh, and they charge $25 for the eye dilation preventative exam which is no longer a necessary process with state of the art equipment, and should be included in the exam. read more

This place is great! I decided to schedule an appointment and found this office on Yelp. I had no problems scheduling an appointment, the receptionist was very friendly and helpful. I went in to get my eyes checked because I did LASIK several years ago. But I noticed my vision had changed. Dr.Lam explained to me that I would need glasses. He took time to explain to me the reasons and things that I need to be aware of. I asked a lot of questions bc I really wants to make sure my eyes are going to be healthy. I drive all the way from Silverlake to Alhambra to come here. It's a 30 minute drive WITHOUT traffic but totally worth the trip. The staff is so nice and Dr Lam always wants to make sure you understand EVERYTHING. He's so thorough and always wants the best for you and your eyes. This office has a great staff that speaks English and Chinese. I feel like i can communicate easily to make appointments and consultations. During my last several visits. Dr. Lam assisted me with my dry eyes issue and allergies. He's provided me with the smart plugs and they work great. In addition, he's very good at explaining the procedures and cuases for my current eye problems. I highly recommend that you try a check up with him. read more

I wished i read these yelp reviews before i purchased the groupon voucher of $39.00 for a credit of $125 towards PRESCRIPTION glasses. i was just too excited to see such a great deal and needing new glasses with no insurance i jumped on this right away. what a lesson learned! upon arriving 20 minutes early, i filled out some paper work and looked around at the frames to save time at the end of the exam. i really had my eye on the tiffanys&co frames but they didnt have anything decent. alot of the frames were super flimsy, so finally i choose a frame that i was okay with. by the time i arrived, they were finishing up on a lady and i over heard her having issues with the price, the voucher and her insurance but i figured its probably just her. ITS NOT! being the only patient in the office after that lady left, i still waited 30 minutes after my scheduled appt to be seen, the assistant said the doctor was behind schedule. with who??!! whatever, im already here. so while i was sitting in the exam room i decided to check-in on yelp, and much to my surprise i noticed and started reading these reviews which put my mood in a serious funk. i felt like i was being scammed. finally the doctor came in and he was great, very thorough with the exam and explain how my vision is and what i needed. i also asked him if i were going to get a copy of my prescription at the end of the visit and he said yes and then i finally asked how much was everything going to cost me and he directed me outside to the front desk assistant to discuss it. i made sure to ask her again if i can get a copy of my prescription so i can at least come out of there with something in my hands. she then broke down the prices for me; $165 for the cheap frames + $200 for the prescription lenses - $125 voucher. in the end i would still have to pay $240 for some glasses i didnt like to begin with. i knew i was going to pay something out of pocket but didnt know its was going to be hundreds of dollars. so i told her, while i was waiting for the dr. i saw how this voucher worked on yelp and i dont want to be paying such amount for some cheap glasses i was going to settle with and that i just wanted my prescription and leave. she tried to talk me into looking at "more economical" glasses and lenses so the final price would not be so much. NO! i was not going to pay a single cent for something i was going to settle for, id rather pay that much and more to get something i really wanted and without feeling like i was tricked. one star for the excellent service, this assistant was very friendly until i told her i didnt want to purchase anything, i felt her mood with me just went down the drain. oh well! thank you fellow yelpers for the heads up, i wouldnt know how i would have reacted if i found out on the spot with them, i would have probably been speechless, confused and purchased it anyways and regret it afterwards. i walked out with an updated prescription i can take to somewhere else for only $39, it would have cost me $75 at lenscrafters for an exam. im also going to have my sister, who is an optometrist student confirm my prescription just incase since MPO is so sketchy and also get my PD measured since one of the yelpers say that they withhold this information. its not really required to have the PD in the prescription, as long as the place u take it to will be nice enough to measure the distance of your eyes. in the end i can somewhat say I WIN! thanks again yelpers! read more

I got a deal from Groupon. Deal on the groupon looks attractive and tempting, but once you enter the store, even the normal, non branded, mediocre looking frames are super duper expensive. The staff tries to convince you with the frames (they are well trained for it). Even with a groupon you land up paying a very high amount. I got ripped off. Do not recommend this store to any one (unless you have extra money to spend on things its not worth it). Instead of paying such a high amount here, might as well I go to beverly hills and buy a branded frame. All of the frames are made in China, also which I have is China made. I payed around $180-$200 per frame in store, it is $64.95 online with free shipping. I would not go here again. read more

I can only give this place 1 star, because after paying over 500 dollars for eyeglasses, the frames broke after 1 year! I asked if they could order a replacement frame at my cost, and was told it was discontinued, and could not help me! They then found my frame online and told me that I could order it my self, if I wanted they would put it in for me! The guy that helped me, Robert, was rude and no help whatsoever!! I decided not to change my rating. 1) the waiting time should have been 20', we waited so long and got impatient and had to ask the other receptionist to call the doctor (We were the only customers in the shop). 2) the female receptionist who serviced us first speaks Chinese but was replaced by you who doesn't speak the language for the follow-up tests after we decided not to purchase. And your reply is kinda funny because on your door it says "We speak Chinese". 3) as I said, I had to go back and confront you about the missing pupil distance. 4) I did not want to mention this in my previous review, but since you brought it up-- the pupil distance you gave us is about 10% (4mm) longer than the distance my mom always had. A person with 60 years wearing glasses would remember some of her own measurements. Since you read it to me and I never saw it. Either your machine has a huge margin of error, or you made one up. I'd rather believe it is the former, but it is not reflecting great on the quality of your equipment. An error this big can cause huge discomfort. 5) And there is an additional set of numbers missing about the bifocal lenses. read more

The staff is extremely friendly and was able to squeeze in a last minute appointment since I was in the area. Dr. Scott was approachable and he was able to figure out I have astigmatism. I bought a living social voucher for my boyfriend because he needed to update his glasses as a gift. We got an apt and i went with him for the ride. The office is very clean and modern, not the typical eye doc places that I'm used to. The staff greeted us and were very friendly and we were seen right away. Just to note: it's best to get an appointment, this doctor gets busy. After my boyfriend's eye exam the nice lady there helped him pick out his glasses. ( we got $125 to spend from the living social deal) it was so fun to see my boyfriend try on different glasses and styles! Kudos to the girl helping us, my bf can be really picky! They had a lot of different styles to choose from. He got the thin lenses and some type of coating to help with the glare. A few days later we got a call letting us know his glasses were ready.
