If any bartender is 4 deep and you're tapping the bar with your credit card or your empty glass (worse)... you're probably not going to get attention anywhere... it's called bar etiquette... don't yell at them... trust me they see you. Remember going to the store as a kid and you continually asked your mom for candy and eventually got smacked or verbally chastised??? It's kinda the same when you grow up. Our local founder Michael McGee has been hosting it for 19 years Many of the people that attend were participants in the late great San Luis Obispo Mardi Gras festival, so there's a lot of camaraderie. There were also a lot of new faces students and locals who have taken up frequenting McCarthy's. The food was hot and earthy, a great Jambalaya served in bowls. The crawfish was the star of the show, with the rosy red beasties arriving hot from the pot, steamed and juicy. Corn, potatoes, and bread came with the crawfish. It was fun to watch the attendees learn to eat the little crustaceans, everyone expressing their delight in the seafood. This was truly a wonderful celebration with a great heart and soul. Menu description: Homemade New England-style clam chowder served piping hot in our crusty sourdough round (contains bacon). Sourdough bowl was far from "crusty", bread was lightly toasted (did not have any brown toasted color at all. Bacon was nonexistent as were traditional potato chunks. The chowder was pretty grainy. The fries were, not my favorite, kinda hard and even worse once they cooled down. Other than the French fry quality, I would order this dish again and try to substitute the fries for a coleslaw.
