Within the first week, we were greeted by name when we walked in. We sampled a variety of classes with different instructors, in both the regular studio and the hot studio. We focused on the beginner level and hot stretch classes. The offerings are diverse and impressive. Every instructor is excellent. Modifications are always provided for those that need them. We got our money's worth out of the one-month trial, attending 3-5 times per week. After our trial period, we decided to purchase the 8 sessions per month membership, due to our busy summer schedule. The memberships are month-to-month (no contract) and can be changed or cancelled at any time, so this flexibility is welcomed. I can definitely see us moving to an unlimited membership during the winter months when our calendar slows down. Since making a concerted effort to add yoga to our fitness regimen, we have noticed significant improvement in flexibility and mobility for our recreational activities that include softball and golf. I was aiming to be 10 minutes early (which would have definitely been more ideal) but I'm a disaster in the morning (maybe disaster is a bit harsh but, let's just say--I'm not a morning person). They have mats for you to borrow or you can bring your own. They also have blocks, straps, and blankets. If you go to a class you'll need all of the above. Fortunately, I met a friend there who gave me the lay of the land. I went to their Tosa Yoga Flow class, which is a great class for beginners. I'm 100% a beginner and felt quite comfortable. They also have a gentle yoga flow as well as a mellow flow + restorative, which are both also good for beginners. If you're more advanced, their strong flow class may just be for you! After getting situated with my mat and props, the class began. Our instructor was clear, kind, and inclusive. She provided judgement free alternatives to moves so that you could do what feels comfortable. After the class, they informed me that they have a deal where newbies get one month of unlimited classes for $49! Even better? My $21 that I paid for the drop in could be applied toward the newbie rate. I signed up and am looking forward to trying a variety of classes this month! My sister got a deal on living social and so did one of her friends and since neither of them do yoga and I actually do I decided I needed to give it a try. The classes are small, about 8 people at max I believe - which is great. I haven't been to a full class yet but the instructors are able to walk around to spot and assist if needed and keep an eye on everyone while demonstrating/talking through steps. I've been to the mandatory intro class and two beginners classes so far. I think it's awesome and the instructors are really great if you're a total wuss like me and too scared to do something without a spot they will come over. If it wasn't for this I wouldn't have already shown improvement between classes. Highly, highly recommend checking this place out. The two instructors I've had so far have both been very nice, friendly, and helpful - different personalities and styles but both good so far! Looking forward to my next class!

My weekday morning class was small, about four others, but the flow ended up being just right after a stretch without any organized yoga classes for me. I have been attending classes here for almost one month and I have been LOVING it! I can tolerate this heat. It helps my middle aged bod bend a little more than it would be willing to sans heat! My studio of choice is their Whitefish Bay location. The studio can accommodate 45 people (according to the app) and the spots are marked by tape. I love taking the 7:30 AM class. I usually get there a little early to claim my spot, socialize a little with the instructor, and then settle into yoga mode. Favorite teachers so far are Jen R, Kat J, and Judy Y. They are all very friendly and supportive, but of course, have their different styles. Jen R keeps the good vibes coming. Kat J has some killer strength moves. Judy Y adds some zen to the class with some inspirational messages. Flows seem to move fast if you are inexperienced or new to the studio, but don't worry - you can catch on! There is a small room to hang your belongings and water is available. If you are new to infrared yoga, you definitely need a towel for your mat. I have been bringing a regular one, but am investing in a yoga towel soon. I also bring a yoga block and my water bottle. They do not supply mats, towels, or blocks; they are available for purchase. Parking is easy in the morning. I am so happy my partner gifted me my membership. It has become an essential part of my self-care routine. I highly recommend!!!

The weekend classes fill up quickly so I would recommend registering sooner rather than later. The instructor for class was great. She remembered my name even though it was our first time meeting and made me feel super welcome by checking in with me after class to see how I liked it. The environment felt safe and inclusive, and the music was my favorite part. You don't realize how much of a difference music makes in making the class that much better. They do have mats and props you can use, and I would definitely recommend this place. They do yoga and recently added Pilates.

My experience at Riverwest Yogashala was very negative. Everyone, no matter what your yoga background (unless you've studied Iyengar before) is required to take the 12 week intro class. I found myself mixed in with people with absolutely no experience, which I felt held back the progress of the group. Every single thing had to be explained in minute detail. Splitting the class to absolute beginner and people with experience in other yoga styles would have been much better. I also found the instructor and her assistant to be very self-absorbed. Before classes started I made a point of telling the instructor that I have some deformities of the foot. For a studio that says it prides itself on it's staffs knowledge of the body, I was horrified when the instructor looped a yoga strap around my big toe and MANUALLY tried to rotate it into "proper" alignment. It incident was both inappropriate and embarrassing, to say the least! The studio space itself is spacious, however in my opinion, very dirty. There always seemed to be a dust bunny hopping around the room or a hairball of someone else's hair drifting across the floor. Because it is on a main through fare and not air conditioned, in the summer the street noise from the open windows or the noise makes it impossible to hear the teacher. Students are also often required to gather around the instructor to watch her demonstrate the post, people were constantly standing on and walking across other people's mats which I found to be unsanitary to say the least. Sorry to say, I would not recommend this place.

Holding things like Community Gift rotating every other sunday. Its free or donation based for hour and a half Iyengar yoga class. This is a nonprofit yoga center. They also have Restorative yoga classes on rotating friday. I really like this class i place lots of physical demands on my body and i really enjoy restoring my mind and body back to a peaceful state. Its important and i think everyone needs to take an hour and a half out twice a month to put everything back in alignment. also this class is $5 again all about making the practice of yoga an affordable and awesome experience. You will find this studio is welcoming of everyone and all abilities. They will work with you to make sure its right and wont let you fall behind. I cant say enough about this place really. Its the least pretentious yoga studio i have yet to go to (we all know what i mean) plus with the cozy apartment like feel it is like all the things i love about river west in 1 room. Peaceful, happy, cohesive, art, etc. There is absolutely no excuse for yogi not to check this place out. :)

I especially appreciate the competitive pricing compared to other local hot yoga studios and with class packs are even more affordable. Hot yoga classes are geared for all levels of yogis but changing up the instructors/ classes offers a more well balanced yoga practice as each instructor provides a slightly different flow/ experience. There are also more gentle / not heated flows available throughout the week. Signup is easy on their website to reserve your spot in class but more popular classes could fill up! I've found the room is full more often than not. The large space accommodates approximately 40 people and is cleaned between classes. Water and (emergency) pony tail holders are always available, as well as other supplies for purchase (mats, towels, water bottles). Empower also holds different fun contests and events to mix things up and keep it fun in other ways too. The summer contest gives someone a chance to win a trip to their Costa Rican retreat and stickers are given out for class milestones. Outdoor classes by the lake are also offered for the whole family! I've been coming here for about 3 years and hope to keep practicing my yoga here for many more years!

Lots of parking available either on the street or around back in the parking lot, you can access Empower Yoga from both the front and the back entrances, just look for and follow the signs that say Empower. Walking into the studio i was kindly greeted by the class instructor for the slot i booked, i took my first class today with Maisie J and she was so inviting!! Class begun promptly at 9:30am and was led powerfully through a mix of floor and standing work. To give you some insight on me; I have experience with yoga already and am familiar with the vocabulary/ movements. But I'm definitely still learning and currently out of practice. I found the instructors verbal guidance to be very easy to follow, and the curriculum to be challenging enough to make me sweat, but not so hard that i was completely lost. For me, it was the perfect balance of "know how" and learning. This studio offers a variety of classes to attend and hosts multiple instructors, with drop-in classes, subscriptions, workshops, and more. I found the inside of the studio to be really welcoming and homey. The wood flooring IS padded, making everything flow very comfortably throughout class. Quick note for first timers: Bring your own equipment! I feel that it is fairly common at most commercial places that they provide you with your yoga equipment. This studio does offer equipment rental for an extra charge, however it is encouraged that you bring your own mat/towel. -This is what i prefer to do anyway, so bringing my own equipment is no issue for me. But i felt it was important to note for anyone who wasn't aware. I cannot wait to learn more about Empower Yoga, I will definitely be back for more.
