Had a great experience here when visiting from out of town. Brandon at the front desk was super cool and even loaned me his harness since the rentals are basically uncomfortable seat belts. The routes are great, the crowd is great, and the gym is well maintained. They have lead ropes they'll loan you, which was unexpected and awesome. Have been here a few times over the last 6 months. The staff is always friendly. If its your first time in, you will want to either fill out the waiver beforehand you can find it online or allow for time when you go in. They have top rope, lead climbing and bouldering. There are no auto-belays. They do offer an array of classes to learn more about climbing and also some fitness classes as well. The set up was great and we have enjoyed ourselves everytime that we have come in. Lots of great options for climbs. read more

Beware of setting if you're short. For reference, I'm 5'1. I lead up to 12b inside and 11 outside. CONS: Setting is so hard for short people to the point where I would drive to any other location in if I had time when I was a member. I switched to a cheaper gym with better setting. Would be nice if they added a couple more foot chips so that I don't have to dyno everything. Especially for 5.9-5.11 climbs. Most moves felt huge for me. I used to take a lot of scary lead whips dynoing above the clip because I couldn't reach from the intended clipping spots. Volumes and big holds are low to the ground on boulders, so good luck to your knee caps if you need to jump! I fully stopped bouldering here because of how badly bruised my knees would get. Never had this issue at any other movement location or climbing gym in general. PROS: This is a good place to train if you live in boulder and need better power endurance. Weight lifting area is great and so is the variety of board climbing and hang boards! There's also good cracks to prep for encountering those outside. The setting for 5.12- and higher feels a lot more thoughtful with better movement compared to lower grades. You will have a great time at this gym if you can climb 5.12 or you're 5'8 and taller. read more

Great environment and clean. Top roping area is top notch but the bouldering area at this gym is pretty cramped and the grading just feels off. Went here from out of town to get some climbing in and i normally do v3s v4s with some struggle back home and thats how i was feeling with 1s and 2s here. I appreciate a challenge but the leap in difficulty just makes the climbing less fun read more

Saturday March 2nd 2013, my Singaporean friends invited me for a climbing session at this Climbing Gym. At the first look aka once I enter this Climbing Gym. I like. It has been ages since I climbed. First, you check in at the front counter, key in your particulars if you are a FIRST TIMER at this Climbing Gym and sign the waiver forms electronically. You pay $10 for the first entry. Subsequent entrance fee is $17 for NON-Members. This entrance fee if you climb, they provide you with climbing shoes and climbing harness. But if you intend to top rope and needed the carabiner and belaying device aka ATC an additional $1 is needed. I took the refresher belaying course, since I need to belay my friends that morning. If you have kids, you are welcome to pay $5 for the in-house, child care center services that they provide for the parents, just like what my Singaporean friends did. The routes that they put at Movement, was from beginner level to advance, being GRADE 5.6 being the easiest that day. They change the routes regularly etc etc by means on the route and the month indicated at the respective routes. From top rope to lead, they have plenty routes for you to choose. Movement also have the Bouldering walls that is located on the main level, same level with the the Front Desk counter and the Child Care premises.. There is also a Gym section where you can do weights, treadmills and indoor bikes aka spinning classes. Movement also have changing rooms which include shower facilities. All in all, I am impressed with the walls, other classes that they provide such as Pilates or Yoga if you intend to be a Member. But since I live in Denver, and ONLY go to Boulder in the BLUE moons, I opt out. Still I might consider the Membership. Had a great morning with my friends climbing. Definitely many returns when needed. Ohhh, did not notice until we left the Gym that Movement is located next to that Indian establishment/restaurant that I like. Double Like... 3.5 stars at best. 3 stars for Customer Service depends on which person you get that day. 2.5 stars for the cramped parking outside. 3 stars for OVERALL Membership Fees. @49/2013 read more

Hip, modern climbing gym with a decent selection of top rope, sport routes, and a bouldering zone. Not a huge gym but plenty to keep you busy and test your skills. Staff is super friendly. Membership gives you access to all the other Movement and Earth Treks gym which is a huge plus. When we first joined we took a toprope intro class with Eli, he was great. read more

The hospitality that is given as you walk into the doors are very genuine and sincere. Followed along with the team's Customer Service. They offer a few snacks, chalk, and rental climbing gear at a reasonable cost. There is a wide range of classes to take as a member and non-member at Movement that is inviting and empowering. I'm not much of a high ropes climber, but the bouldering part of the gym is pretty nice and communicating with other boulderers is a great way to build community within the gym. I've been to other climbing gyms across the U.S. and nothing beats Movement. read more

This has been my "home gym" for years but increasingly I'm driving to other gyms (and paying for day passes) because of the route setting. The setting at Movement Boulder is very hit or miss and the style tends to be awkward and burly/bouldery without much flow. I've called it the climbing equivalent of weightlifting - it may make you strong but it's not very fun. Also I don't think the setters put much thought into clipping. Often the clips are the crux of the routes which IMO is a sign of bad setting. Finally, most gyms set a variety of feet to accommodate climbers of different heights. I don't see this being done at Movement and most of the routes are quite specific to the setter's height. A big part of the problem is that all the holds are ancient and greasy - new holds would make a HUGE difference. Hopefully this feedback is helpful and constructive. read more

Such a great rock climbing gym! The staff here is SUPER friendly and helpful. They are very passionate about climbing and took the time to chat with our whole group (since we were new to the area) about what to do in Boulder as well. This is a large and relatively nice climbing gym and I've been a member for several years. Recently the place has been slipping and I hope that the owners start paying attention. The staff are becoming noticeably complacent and it's staying dirtier for longer. I also use the gym for cardio and lifting, but unfortunately in the last couple of years their cardio machines (treadmills, ellipticals, and bikes) have been frequently broken and you're just met with 'what am I supposed to do' responses from the staff. Recently, they've just been getting rid of the machines and other workout equipment, although the initial response they've given me was that they were just "out for repair". The place used to be a one stop shop, but now I'm thinking about dropping my membership for a real gym and just using a punch card for climbing. They also managed to skimp on the parking so that on the busy days, you have to park elsewhere and walk to the gym. read more

The negative reviews on customer service are 100% spot on. If you are an experienced climber who is an overhung junkie, you will probably have a decent experience with Movement and the terrain. The setters seem struggle with setting between a 5.7 and a 5.11, making those who are still learning left with limited options. In addition, the amount of routes that aren't overhung is minimal and set in the same 6-8 week time span as all of the overhung routes, leaving a lack of variety for such a limited area. For those who want to work on footwork or climb vertical/ slab routes, go to BRC down the road or EVO in Louisville. read more

We're visiting from out of town and we had a fantastic visit to do some rope climbing. The front staff member, Christine, was very helpful and patient with our large group with children. The gym was spacious and had some great climbs. We also loved the auditorium seating for anyone not climbing. The only recommendation that we have is to offer training on the grigri for anyone new to that type of belay device. Otherwise, everything was excellent!!! read more

Movement Climbing & Fitness is the best overall climbing gym in Boulder. I say this with honestly as I have friends working/owning all climbing gyms in Boulder. It can be easily argued that all gyms in town (Spot, BRC, Movement) provide the best climbing routes. Movement takes the cake due to their "& Fitness" part of their company title, showing that beyond a world-class climbing facility, they also offer a barrage of other amenities: FULL workout gym and weightroom, competitive pricing, enthusiastic & welcoming staff, cleanliness, free showers w/ towels, good environmental practices...and Movement has a FULL schedule of classes offering several styles of yoga, pilates, acro yoga, cardio-fit, ski-fit, cycling, and other training programs. If you're a great climber, you'll appreciate each gym in Boulder. But, if you want a place with climbing AND other great offerings, you MUST check out Movement. read more

I have very mixed feelings about Movement. On the one hand, they have a great facility that offers much more than just climbing, including an excellent workout room and good classes. On the other, the prices are pretty steep, the place gets crazy busy (especially during winter), and there's not much parking. The route setting is fine, but it's not particularly creative or varied. The bouldering routes are actually pretty sub par: the routes are very difficult even at V1 or V2, predictable, and lack flow. I've never been a fan of gyms that use the V rating, preferring a gym-specific rating that's consistent at that gym even if it doesn't mean much anywhere else. The staff is friendly, but in the same way they're friendly at your bank. Overall, this is a very "new Boulder" gym, both in terms of the facility itself and in the atmosphere of the place. It might be great for some, but I found it pretentious, expensive and crowded. It is a fitness center first and foremost and a climbing gym second. read more

I am yet to try ropes, but if you are into rope climbing, this is by far the best place to climb in Boulder. The bouldering area is pretty good too, they rotate problems frequently, and it offers a lot of variety. It has a full gym, spin area, pilates, yoga, all that good stuff. If I get into rope climbing, I'll definitely renew my membership. Until then, I'm good bouldering at The Spot. read more

I come to this gym religiously. The pros: clean, spacious, great routes/bouldering (most of the time), eco-friendly (at least thats the impression I get), fitness classes, yoga, climbing classes, mostly great people. The cons: this place has the potential to turn into a full blown mess. Lack of parking, lack of ropes, people climbing over each other. I've found the bouldering to be largely inconsistent in their grading. Overall, I love this place. I feel that this gym offers tremendous opportunity to get better at climbing and overall improve one's health depending on how bad you want it. Come early to find parking if you're trying to get to an evening class! Or ride a bike. read more

I love movement! There are a lot of fun climbs at all different skill levels. They change the routes every week or two, which helps insure that one never gets bored! Movement also offers many of the amenities of a traditional gym: Locker room with showers, full weight room, treadmills/ellipticals/bikes, as well as Yoga, cycling, and circuit classes. I actually broke my ankle here a month ago while bouldering, but I don't hold that against them. In fact, I just re-upped my membership so that I can come here during my rehab... for now I can do weights and the hand bike, and in a couple weeks I'll be able to cycle. Can't WAIT til i can start climbing again!! The only thing that I am tempted to go to another gym for is swimming. Other than that, Movement's got it all. They play great music, too! read more

Blown away by the facility the moment I walked in. This climbing gym is expansive, and members here really get an incredible package. You have a large bouldering area, huge rope/lead space, lounge with wi-fi, yoga room, spinning room, gym room with tons of equipment, elliptical (with TVs in them!), training board area, and more. If I lived in Boulder, I would absolutely have a membership to Movement. I really enjoyed the bouldering here. Great route setting, excellent diversity, and generally fun climbs. My boyfriend also really enjoyed the lead area. My only complaint is that this place gets PACKED. Like, severely overcrowded. I watched a row on the lead wall where every single anchor was in use, including a little kid sandwiched between two dudes climbing up the wall. One guy was literally using foot holds that were directly in the way of the kid's chest. That, my friends, is just not okay. I also felt a bit overwhelmed in the bouldering area during rush hour - it was way intimidating to hop on the wall. Don't come during the peak hours, and you'll be a-okay. This is a great facility with tons of options for getting your sweat on. No wonder all these Boulder climbers crush so hard - they've got a prime facility for training! read more

I got here and everything looked cool but most of all I just could not stop staring at their massive lead wall. Huge, 45 degree wall just launching itself out into the air of the gym -- the angle gives the routes some length so you'll want to bring some endurance if possible (I definitely didn't have enough!!) along with whatever other fancy tricks you have up your sleeve. Lead test is pretty painless here and the routes we tried were cool. Bouldered also and they have a cool training area upstairs. Not sure about peak hours but midday on a Friday it's not particularly crowded whatsoever read more

My feelings on this Movement are very similar to the one in Denver. It smells a little weird inside and the bouldering area is small. It felt crowded. However, bouldering problems were clearly marked and well-maintained. Parking is limited compared to the number of people who try to climb here. Lots of people made up their own parking spots which is unsafe and risky for cars. read more

WORST customer service ever! I tried to cancel my membership (two days after their arbitrary charge every 5th of the month) because of moving and they charged me for the whole month!! When I complained they said they don't do refunds - HUGE LIE as they do for medical reasons, which they only admitted when I called them out. Do not climb here, very unfriendly gym, with routes that stay on for 1.5/2 months. read more

One of the best climbing gyms that I've had the chance to climb at in a long time! Fun bouldering section, with vert walls, inclined walls, and a cave! It gets as slabby or juggy as you want it, depending on which part you go to. The rope section is humongous! 3/4th of it is TR friendly and 4/5th of it is lead friendly! They have a gorgeous gray wall that can be steep and sustained and so much fun to project routes on. Upstairs they have a cycling room, a yoga studio, a gym with circuit training machines and free weights, a campus and system board area, and a pull up bar and hangboard area. They offer pilates classes, yoga classes, spin classes, fitness classes, and personal training! And on top of all this goodness? Everyone who works there is stoked to be there and so nice whenever you need anything at all! I'm going to be a big fan for a long time and congratulations on the new Denver location! read more

Great staff, easy going and friendly. There's a great variety here - all with great height, solid beginner routes, and accurately rated climbs for next steps up. There's a great variety of inclined and flat routes so if upper arm strength isn't you're thing you won't get bored quickly. I'm a 5.7 type and I had a great time - 4 climbs today, all of which were fun. It's not too crowded - we came at night! read more

When I first joined Movement Climbing + Fitness, I loved it. Its easy to be dazzled by the size and cleanliness of this gym. However, the negatives started to surface pretty quickly. More than anything, this gym gets extremely crowded. The density of climbers frequently reaches critical mass--to the point where you are perpetually being hovered over by other groups trying to snag your line. The parking situation is completely inadequate. Also, there is a fundamental lack of climbing courtesy that is commonplace at Movement. Other groups will start on lines that intersect with yours before you've gained any distance. Several times, I've had climbers creep on me and interfere with my redpoint. Additionally, the administrative side of this gym is entirely anal retentive. Movement is one of the most pretentious gyms I've ever been a member of. From now on I'm taking my business elsewhere. read more

Best of the climbing gyms that I've tried in Boulder. They have safe-feeling floors in the bouldering area (unlike some of their local competition). The fitness area is clean and the machines are all modern and they have a spinning room, all great bonuses. It gets massively crowded on weeknights in here to the point where it's downright unpleasant to try to climb. When the gym gets this way, it also smells rank, like being inside someone's sweaty socks. Their parking lot is way too small for their membership and the overflow parking options often fill up as well. I'm letting my membership expire and not renewing because in general I like to climb in the evening and I'm finding myself just not going because of the crowds. They should open a second location since clearly there is enough demand for high quality climbing and fitness in Boulder to support it. The desk staff is usually helpful when you ask them for something but in general it seems like they are way more interested in chilling with their friends than doing their jobs. read more

I was hesitant to go to Movement as it embodies much of what I despise in the climbing community, but having moved to Boulder in December I figured I would give it a chance. It's the newest addition to the Boulder gym scene and it's clear it was a major financial investment to make this happen. The lead walls are tall and steep, most of the routes at least slightly overhanging. While not as big as The Spot, the bouldering area is reasonably big and the ratings seem fairly comparable to stuff you'd find outside at the Tablelands in Bishop. There's a campus board area, yoga/pilates studio, spinning room, and weight room upstairs. I've take core and pilates classes so far and both were useful. The gym is especially crowded in the evenings starting ~6p, but that's nothing out of the ordinary for most gyms. I haven't had any negative experiences with the staff; instructors and desk staff have all been quite helpful. The membership fee system, however, seemed a bit weird to me. It was $75 for month-to-month and $63 for autopay, but autopay required a $75 setup fee plus there's an $8/mo payment to freeze your membership. If you spread out the startup fee that means it would take 6.25 months to reap the benefits of autopay, not accounting for the freeze fee. I suppose with month-to-month they could always raise the monthly price. The whole point of living here is having outdoor climbing minutes from your door so I for one can't see using the gym during most of the year. read more

I'm a climber, but I'm also a runner, and I frequently want to use the treadmills at Movement. Not as much in the summer, but definitely in the winter. Maybe going at peak time in the winter is creating the perfect storm, but EVERY time I've gone to Movement over the past few months and wanted to use a treadmill, at least one has been broken. Last night, two were broken. The time before that, one broke while I was on it, so I moved to the one next to it, which was miraculously not being used, only to find out that the reason that it wasn't being used was because it too was broken. Frequently, all other working treadmills are taken. Can you guys please do something about this? If you're having that much of an issue keeping the treadmills running, maybe don't offer them. One of the reasons that I wanted to join Movement is because it seemed like a great all-around gym, and isn't it actually called Movement Climbing + Fitness? If you're touting "state-of-the-art equipment" (pulled directly from your website), and increasing rates, the least you could do is guarantee that the equipment works. I just want to be totally clear that I don't have an unrealistic expectation that things should never break, just that you're doing your due diligence to make sure that your paying members are actually getting what they're paying for. Not the best if it's bouldering you're after. I can't speak about roped climbing, as I was there alone from out of town. I was also disappointed to see that there were no auto-belays. The bouldering area is small, given the overall size of the facility. Few problems at each grade. No cave worth mentioning. I got there early and found a spot in the tiny parking lot, but the place soon filled with kids, which limited bouldering options even more. I see why they added "..and fitness" after "climbing" in their name. It's got a bit of everything, sure, but not enough for the committed boulderer. read more
