BRC deserves more than the 3.5 average it has right now. I can't comment on hearsay about managers or "uninspired" climbs (I am not a route-setter nor do I claim to be one) but BRC is pretty solid. The gym area is really nice, far surpassing The Spot Boulder (the other climbing gym BRC is usually being compared too). And unlike Movement Boulder, BRC has auto-belays so you don't need a partner to rope climb. BRC also has a small lounge area where you could theoretically work from (free WIFI) and free coffee and tea for members every morning until 11am. The biggest downside to BRC I'd say is that it's really a rope-climbing gym. The bouldering area has a lot to be desired if comparing it to The Spot (which in BRC's defense is a bouldering-specific gym). And though there are auto-belays, there's only about 1/2 dozen (I think?) so unless you have a partner to climb with most the climbing is inaccessible to you. On a side note, I do find the crowd at BRC about 20'ish years older than that at The Spot too. I received a free week at BRC after taking one of their belay classes and thoroughly enjoyed my time. read more

There are three main climbing gyms in Boulder and this is undoubtedly the worst of them. First and foremost, they offer the worst product at almost the exact same price. While Movement and The Spot have several gyms within driving distance of each other, the BRC charges nearly the same price for their single location. That means that members here are paying for less product than they would receive at other gyms. Second, the management is bad. The general manger exudes a kind of psycho energy as he stares at climbers through the front desk window. Multiple BRC youth team members have said that the managers make them feel uncomfortable. This has been going on for years and as far as I know they have done nothing to address it. Finally, the climbs at this gym are uninspired. There are a couple talented route setters on their staff, but the majority are inexperienced kids with an inflated sense of importance. It's truly amazing that a company that only needs to set a few routes per week is somehow putting out worse climbs than their competitors with 3x-5x the amount of setting. read more

Super exciting rock climbing facility geared towards all levels of climbers from toddlers and novice to experts. We took our 3 yr old daughter and helped her take her first ever climb all the way from West Palm Beach to Boulder, CO! The staff was extremely helpful and taught us how to properly suit her up. The gear and facility was clean and impressive! Chanel had a blast in the children's climbing center and even more fun sliding down the hidden 2 story circular slide afterwards! If you crave the smell of feet and fungus., this is your place... Though it's fun for climbing, it is so dirty! Seriously, the smell of cheese and feet is so overpowering that it distracts me the whole time I'm climbing. The place is so dirty that its almost insulting... I mean, you think that just because we're outdoorsy folks that enjoy climbing we're okay with filth? Yuk. It is really a shame because the place is fun, the music is good, and the staff is friendly. We were in Boulder for a family trip and thought we'd get some climbing in - two adults and child - all seasoned climbers with our own gear. The man at the front taking our money was friendly and offered assistance but that's where the helpfulness ended. The other staff couldn't be bothered to help when we had questions. The clientele wasn't what we are used to back east, either. (Our home gym community simply rocks.) I experienced an elitist attitude here that made climbing less than enjoyable. I spent most of my time bouldering which was great because your reward for reaching the top was getting to ride the awesome slide back down! I am really surprised about the few negative reviews that I have read here about this place. There must be some sort of hidden agenda there. After 3 weeks of intense research and visiting/touring 5 other local gyms, I decided to join this one. Their price is fair, no hidden fees (initiation, cancellation, membership freeze), their facility if really nice, from kids to beginners, to pros they have something for everyone. Trueblue auto-belays all over so you can go alone and have a great time when your patterned are not available. If you have kids, this is the one go, the kids area has latter like walls (very easy) and rock like walls, inclines walls, where kids can spend quite a bit of time learning and developing. Yoga classes, nice weight room, down to earth members and friendly staff. If you are searching for an indoor gym, I would encourage you to drop by and see it for yourself. This place use to be one of a kind, a true gem amongst climbing gyms. Yet time has not been kind to this place, and it is in need of a massive revamp. It is still a very exciting gym to climb at, but it has recently been put into the shadows due to the opening of several other climbing gyms. The people who i have meet are either huge fans of this place, or cant stand it. I happen to fall somewhere in between. The bouldering and sport climbing section of this gym can be very entertaining, but i find it difficult to spend a lot of time in this place. read more

I'm sorry, but you people who climb at the BRC are some of the most egomaniacal, self-centered climbers I have ever met. And most of you don't even climb that hard!!! But you think you do! Why don't you take a trip a few blocks down to the Spot to see what real climbing is all about??? Oh and this goes to the owner: you can go f*** yourself. My first climbing experience (either indoor or out) was at BRC today. I really loved it! My husband had been many times before, so he was pumped and got me excited to go. It's not cheap, but it was definitely a good workout, and a hell of a lot of fun. Plus, I think it's cheaper if you can be a member or buy a punch card (though we're not local at the moment, so we can't). They provide you the equipment & shoes, and you don't have to have any experience at all (except to belay, which they require you to pass a test on before they'll let you). My husband belayed me a bit, and we also both used the auto belay system that they have now (which is very cool!) The guys who work there are very friendly & helpful, and the gym is really neat. Lots of supportive people and climbers of all ages and abilities. I really can't wait to visit BRC again someday! Hopefully I'll be able to climb harder courses next time! PS: I'm kind of a germaphobe & have a good sense of smell, and I didn't think of this place as stinky or gross. I mean, in a sense it definitely is (if you think about it), but honestly... A shower afterward and use some hand gel (then some lotion, because the walls seriously rip up your hands if you're a girly girl like me and have zero calluses... Love the route setting and the varied terrain. We drive an hour so my kids can climb at BRC. Unlike some NEWER gyms they don't charge me to belay my kids and the staff are all helpful, courteous and seem to care weather you have a good time. The routesetting is top notch. Having visiting maybe 12-15, climbing gyms in my life w membership status (ie frequent visits) at 6 of them, BRC is a solid gym. For Boulder options, definitely has more pluses (variety, type of routes, frequent enough re-settings, bouldering/TR/Lead/Autobelay, friendly/skilled staff w not-too-much "climber attitude", consistent schedule, size, grungy "indoor gym for outdoor climbers feel, etc), discounts/promos/partnerships, charitable causes, etc). While I'd prob give it a 4+, it DEFINITELY deserves higher than 3, so gonna help correct its current average. read more

My favorite indoor climbing in Boulder. Auto-belays allow beginners to climb without a partner. Not all climbing gyms have auto-belays. Huge place. Routes regularly updated. Lots on bouldering options. Staff is friendly and helpful. BRC can get really crowded, but they're happy to tell you when it's not as crowded. We go Saturday mornings. That's a good time. And weekdays after 8:30 or so at night aren't too crowded either. read more

I've been climbing for two months at other gyms and I decided to check this gym out. When I walked in, it was clean and there were many routes. In an hour, I got to hit three 5.7s, a 5.9, two 5.10-s, and a 5.10. The auto-belays weren't that crowded (that was nice). My only concern was that there were people clipping in to both the auto belays and the regular belays (?). Not sure if that was advised, but no one told them not to. This gym is great. Unbelievable low level of professionalism. I had my son enrolled in a camp there with five months advance notice, and then they cancelled the camp with 2 days notice apologizing for the inconvenience. They didn't offer to comp additional days throughout the school year -- they were just "sorry" and whatever... I truly wish businesses like these would be successful -- love the concept. There is always room for improvement, but overall, this is a good club and I didn't find the people, including management and staff, to be anything other than helpful and outgoing. There are no longer any auto belays because they've all been recalled world-wide. But there is a buddy sign-up sheet and if there is no one else, one of the staff can sometimes break away and belay you for a while. Sometimes they have to charge for that, some times they don't. The place does not smell like feet, or anything unpleasant. The music is really great. It gets pretty crowded in the evenings. They set the routes at least twice a week. There are plenty of beginner routes and instruction classes. The newer section has 35' walls. Lots of bouldering walls too. It is not snazzy and new anymore and it is showing some wear and tear, but so what? It's a great place to get a workout. read more

I really enjoyed coming to this oplace, until I got conjunctivitis. I am sure this is where I contracted because I am great about washing my hands regularly, and this is the only place I had been within the 24 hour incubation period of contracting it where i could have possibly been in contact with the virus and had it contact my own eyes. Staff was not concerned when I asked them about improvements to the cleanliness and germ cleaning, and that is why I only gave the place 3 stars. I suggested requiring climbers clean their hands before each climb, and seemed to get brushed off. This is my favorite gym in the Denver/Boulder area. Interesting, thoughtful routes because they are not limited by hold color. Consistent setting that isn't just about making holds farther/smaller to up the grade. Pleasing aesthetics that look like rock (but easy for setting). Doesn't give off a circus vibe. However, it is old school (no treadmills etc), but clean (they replace the floor pad every now and then though) and some people may not like it doesn't seem trendy or fancy with tons of workout equipment, see thru glass, observation seating. The walls are shorter than some of the "new" gyms but this means I can cut my 60m rope in 2 pieces to lead with, and not have to cut a 40m piece and have a useless 20m peace. They do provide lead ropes though. Can lead most walls, toprope many of them. A few areas and rooms and different organic angles/overhangs. Autobelays. No pointless "initiation fee" whose only point is to ream you of money. Well-priced compared to the other gyms in the area. Wish others would stop opening so many "LA fitness" trendy style gyms around the area. read more

Excellent service and affordable. I'm just getting into climbing; the staff are always willing to help you out as well as the other members. I use the auto-belays and there are plenty to use for the novice climbers. Their bouldering paths also range from easy to difficult which is always a good time. It brings you a lot of pleasure working your way up to the harder routes. read more

Ive been climbing here for years and have always thought the staff was very friendly but every time I walk in and Alyssa is holding down the front I'm hardly greeted, never get straight eye contact, and she hardly says anything at all. then I would ask to buy a drink she would flatly say the price then without even looking up just say I should walk around the desk and grab it myself seeming that she was too lazy to get up and get the drink I just purchased. All in all I always hope that I can be actually greeted by a friendly face. not some standoffish employee. read more

A terrific place to climb, whether you are an expert or just starting out. The staff is very friendly and highly experienced, (unlike the staff at the new upstart gym in town). I learned to climb here 15 years ago, and my kids love learning the "ropes" now. It's the best rock club in the state! CLEAN, state-of the art and well-designed. read more
