Mountains Edge Fitness is hands down the best gym I've worked out at. This gym is awesome because it builds community as well as fitness. Grace and Tim at the front desk are personable, friendly, helpful and quick to know you by name. There are games to play around the gym, such as trivia, jenga, scrabble, checkers, and puzzles. There's even a book exchange! Those touches are so unique and fun, it really adds another dimension to the atmosphere. There is a wide array of work out equipment, from cardio to weight machines to free weights. Actually, there are many machines there that I haven't seen at any other gym I've been to. I love adding new lifts to my routine when I try out one of the machines. There are crash pads for Olympic lifts, such as power cleans. All of the trainers there are so friendly. I can tell just by watching them work with their clients that they are knowledgable, kind, and incredibly helpful. There is a wall with the pictures and credentials of all the trainers and it is quite impressive at the extensive qualifications they posses. I am impressed at how they emphasize stability and balance exercises as a foundation before starting anything heavier. It's a very refreshing change from the typical trainer who has you sitting there doing dumbbell curls until your arms want to fall off. One of the trainers, Shannon, even brings her little corgi, Colin, with her and they both light up the atmosphere of the entire place. For the most part, the patrons of the gym are friendly and funny. My boyfriend and I have only been working out there for a few months and we've already gotten to know quite a few people. It is such a great community, and the friendliness is contagious! Usually when we go in to work out in the afternoons, there are maybe 5 people there. The place is NEVER packed, and I've never had to wait to use a machine/bench/rack/etc. Oh yeah, and it is by far the cheapest place to workout in Boulder. I will be moving away soon and I am so sad to be leaving Mountains Edge. I will miss everything about it and doubt I will find an environment quite like it again. read more

Mountain's Edge Fitness offers more than I initially expected, especially when compared to other gyms in the Boulder area that charge nearly twice as much. I have been a member here for two months and have greatly enjoyed the experience. Atmosphere: The staff, owner, and gym regulars are all very friendly. The busiest I have ever seen it is 8 people working out at one time, and even then I've never had to wait to use anything. The gym is built inside of an old bar/club, so it's more quaint than space age. Within the gym is a book exchange, trivia, and board games scattered about. I like to move a Jenga piece after each workout when I'm shaky. There's also a food donation bin near the entrance, which gives a sense of community involvement. Even if you are a student and have access to the CU gym, Mountain's Edge is a great alternative if you dislike crowds and want a more relaxed environment. Equipment: This gym offers something for a variety of fitness types. There are a number of treadmills, bikes, row machines, stairs, etc. that most gyms carry. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of both free weights and machine weights offered as well. The dumbbell rack alone runs up to 130 lbs in 5 lb increments. Plenty of benches, squat racks, Olympic bars and the like are provided. There is an open room with floor space for stretching, core exercises, etc. There is also a huge room on the second floor, which is usually empty, for yoga and other floor work. There are several personal trainers who work here as well. I've seen them help out with everything from stability/mobility all the way up to power lifting. TLDR: Affordable rate, friendly staff, lots of free weights and machines, lots of cardio equipment. read more

MEF is such a great gym; it really has something for everyone, from seniors walking on the treadmill in jeans to 20 year old bodybuilder guys. The staff are excellent; they are always friendly and ready to help if you need something, but otherwise they leave you to your workout. And there is really no "scene;" it's just a very down to earth, awesome place to get some good exercise. It's very clean and well-maintained, and the trainers all seem like extremely nice people with zero attitude, which is a welcome difference from a lot of fitness facilities in Boulder. As for the new location, it feels larger and less crowded than the old location, plus the fact that cardio and weights are in two separate rooms is nice; definitely more room for stretching and yoga ball exercises. There are also a lot of nice little touches: a trivia question to answer when you come in, basket of ponytail holders in the changing room in case you forgot yours, etc. Definitely highly recommended if you're looking for something different than the cookie-cutter corporate gyms! read more

We've been long time members of Mountains Edge and I love their new location in the Broker Inn! Great retro vibe for those of us who remember the restaurant which has been transformed into a spacious weight room with treadmills, bikes, steps. Just outside the door is the hotel pool and hot tub we can use too. There's even a lending library shelved right by the weight room. Upstairs are day care, cycling and fitness rooms. Gorgeous fitness room for classes--my favorite thing. Instructors are so good, make working out fun and for all ages. They explain how to do moves so you can work the correct muscle groups without injury. From aerobics to Pilate's to NIA to ski season training, there are so many cool classes. Lastly the staff and trainers are super; there's always something fun going on like Trivia Night or a BBQ or a fund raiser for a worthy cause. It's not just a quick workout and we leave; it's part of our life and such a hidden gem. Check it out!! read more

This gym is an amazing value. Mountains edge offers as many classes as the big corporate gyms without the corporate BS or the price tag! The weight room offers everything I need and the cardio equipment works well. Sure the new location is unusual, but it works. If you want to experience real, quality people and get a great workout this place is for you. Look beyond the obvious and you will find a treasure that is disappearing from this country. People here care! Members become friends who care. The staff took the time to get to know me from the first day I visited. The only reason I did not give this place a full 5 stars is because they do not have a full steam/sauna/hot tub set up. But quite honestly, I have belonged to two other clubs in Boulder who do offer these and I have been far less impressed. Even if you're a skeptic it's worth the financial risk. I have been at MEF for 3+ years. I tried several other gyms before signing on and have not looked back since. I love the small, intimate feeling of this gym where everybody really does know your name. I attend fitness classes almost every day. The instruction is outstanding. The theme of every class is, "Make this work for your body today." I appreciate all of the instructors who give many options of challenge, so no matter what class I take, I know I can customize it for my needs. Cannot recommend this gym enough. My husband and I are visiting Boulder from Michigan and wanted a "drop-in" gym while we are here. We usually work out at a larger chain gym so we wanted the same weight machines and found everything we needed. Tim and Jason could not have been more welcoming. The gym is unique in that it is located in a former bar room of a hotel. Friendly atmosphere and not too crowded. They have experienced trainers and I would have booked a training session if we stayed longer. I love this gym! After being exhausted by the overly corporate gyms like Colorado Athletic Center and 24 HR, this is finally the gym I've been looking for. Though they have plenty of machines, I really love their squat racks and abundant free weights all in great condition. The staff are always kind and welcoming. A few months ago, I brought my dad and sister to workout here and they fell in love with it. They never seriously worked out before and this is the perfect non threatening gym for them. I've been with MEF for seven years, and although I don't care for the new location (not terribly convenient for me to get to), I couldn't imagine leaving this gym. Stacey and Shannon, two of the instructors, are incredibly friendly, funny, inspiring, and knowledgeable, and they put together fantastic workouts. The daycare co-op is staffed with friendly, caring adults and sweet kids. It's a community-oriented place which I love, but even on days when I don't feel like chatting it up, it's easy to get in and out of the place - that is to say that the social aspect is great, and not overwhelming. read more

My husband and I were passing through on vacation and found Mountains Edge online. So happy we did. We have been to many, many gyms, and this, honestly, is our favorite that we have found. Not only did it have a great variety of good quality equipment, it had a wonderful atmosphere. Such a unique setting for a gym, and wonderful people. Mountain's Edge is the epitome of easy going and down to earth (something hard to find in ultra fitness minded Boulder). I admit, there was a huge bewildered smile on my face when I realized the gym is mostly located in a once-hip hotel bar, but after seeing all of the machines, free weights and other equipment, I was hooked. I feel comfortable in the space, never have to wait for a machine and everyone is so friendly. This gym is incredible. The equipment is always well cared for and in working order and you won't find a more friendly staff anywhere. The space is also very unique and says loud and clear that this isn't your average corporate gym. The wood paneling, stained glass, and library all come together to create a truly unique experience that really adds to the charm of this place. I love this place! It's such a random lil gem. This gym has no bells and whistles and is the least pretentious place I've ever been in Boulder but has everything you need! All the weight machines, and weights that you really need and the cardio equipment is new. The staff is lovely and welcoming. They remember your name. I've taken kickboxing with Ignacio and it rocks. This is a humble gym that does not boast nor brag. If you are looking for a country club, this place is not for you. If you are looking for a place where you can work out and feel welcome, without waiting for machines, without feeling intimidated by anyone, and for an unbeatable price, look no further. Great gym! I was staying in Boulder for just the summer and needed a membership for only about a month and a half. The management worked out a deal with me so I wasn't stuck over paying for time I didn't need. Super friendly staff and great equipment. They have tons of free weights and power lifting racks and two smith machines. It's never packed either, I never once had to wait for a machine. Definitely coming back here next time I'm in Boulder. read more

Last Month I visited Mountain's Edge Fitness and joined. After using their facility for a month, I think its a great match for me. Very casual, lots of equipment and their classroom space for group training is spacious and appears to be newly renovated. Their two bar areas are very unique and kinda give it a warm cozy feeling. I tried to stop but came back. I was a long term member but took a 2 year hiatus to explore some other Boulder work out spots but missed the camaraderie and awesome instructors that teach at MEF.
