Ask the Community - Boulder Movement Collective

What's the parking sitch like these days?

Same. Not so many spots next to the studio. Probably best to park on Wilderness Place and walk.

CorePower Yoga - Boulder on the Hill

CorePower Yoga - Boulder on the Hill

As someone who has been practicing yoga for many years, I would not call this yoga. There was no…read moreactual flow or connection to poses. This was just a workout class with loud music and heat.

I recently redeemed a month membership at CorePower Yoga and have been having a blast exploring the…read moredifferent locations. Earlier this eek I decided to give the CorePower on The Hill a try as the Yoga Sculpt class was at a time that worked well with my schedule (I have already returned to take another great class). I was pleased that upon arrival to the hill I was able to secure parking nearby. I ascended the stairs to the front desk of the studio and was immediately greeted by two friendly employees (had I not been running late I would have taken the opportunity to peruse the cute activewear I spied). Check-in was quick and the instructor of my class introduced herself (Rebecca) and welcomed me to Corepower. I had no problem finding a spot (turns out nice weather had nearly halved this usually jam packed class. The class itself consisted mostly of coeds (which I suspected considering the location). Hands down this was the most fun class I have ever taken at a CorePower studio. In fact I have taken this particular class several times since moving to Boulder and was so blown away by the instructor that I stayed by afterwords to have a chat with her. For one she was very friendly and approachable, second I could tell she loved the class (she was very encouraging, passionate, and bubbly during this tough class), third I suspected and was correct that she had training in Integrative Physiology as her class really stood out and the exercises she chose had a great natural progression to them. The studio was quite a bit larger than I anticipated (this location has just one studio) and has gorgeous skylights (which I didn't notice until the end of class during the "end relaxation" pose). The reason I have only given this business 4 stars is because: It is really difficult to hear the teachers in the studio space (not sure if they sometimes use microphones), they also don't appear to have enough 3 lb. dumbbells to cover the amount of people they can accommodate for their sculpt class (I had to settle for 5 pounders which were a bit too heavy as I could only find 1 3lb. weight), and the bathroom/locker room is extremely small. Overall I am extremely pleased with this location (so much so that it's 5:30 AM and I'm planning to actually leave the house and take a class BEFORE WORK - don't think this has happened for years).

I really love the instructors I have worked with at Pilates of Boulder. They have been excellent at…read moreguiding me through the exercises, making sure I have the correct form and keep the pace of the class just right so no one is bored and we're all challenged just enough. I'm not the typical boulder sporty/healthy/fitness nut. Going to the gym is boring and tedious for me; going for a run is out of the question due to joint problems. I do Pilates on the reformer because I find it fun and mentally stimulating. Plus you can get one heck of a workout without even noticing 'til you try to climb the stairs at home. At Pilates of Boulder they would switch it up and spend time on the Cadillac, Barrel, Spine Corrector, and Chair. This introduced me to the variety of equipment and helped keep me interested. The reason I had to take away 2 stars: They don't have enough classes at 5:30pm. Almost every Pilates joint in town caters to people without jobs. This problem is endemic. I know lots of people, who would love to take classes after work but there just isn't much of an opportunity. And no, offering a class later in the evening doesn't count, it cuts up the evening into too many small pieces. I want to go from work, to the gym and then home. The other problem is that the big west-facing windows that provide such a beautiful view, also turn the line of reformers into a broiler in the summer. You can break a sweat just lying on a reformer. Please, I beg you, invest in some sun shades. I don't want to do Birkram Yoga, I want to do Pilates, preferably in a nice cool environment.

I've had great experiences here, and I'm looking forward to seeing them in the new location after…read moretheir reopening.
