We had a great time rafting. The guides were very nice and fun. We did book this about 2 months in advance and bought the full day experience combination of rafting and ziplining. I am not sure who it is appropriate to write this review under as they are not the same company but work together for the deals. While the rafting was great (4 hours on the water), it is definitely for beginners. There is only one area of level 2-3 rapids, which were fun, and the rest of the time is just gliding down the river, which was relaxing. I am not complaining about this because I was a beginner and didn't know what to expect. I think it's great for beginners. Anyway, rafting was great. What wasn't great, is when we showed up for our "appointment" at the ziplining place at 1pm and they didn't have us in the system!! We were leaving town the next day and were going to be screwed out of our ziplining experience if it weren't for our luck that they had an opening for us later in the day at 4pm. We then had to go find something to do while we waited around for the later zipline trip that same day. Once we finally got to zipline, it was fun. The guides were great. I just think that the 2 companies need to make sure their systems are talking to each other. It could have been worse if we missed out on the ziplining and I would have thrown a big fit. read more

My wife and I took our 10-year-old daughter on the 2-hour economy rafting trip with Mountain Waters Rafting and had the best time! We really appreciated the attention of our guide and the consideration he paid to our daughter. If you have ever been on a rafting trip, you know that it always starts with a safety presentation, explaining what you may run into on the water, and what to do if you suddenly find yourself in the river. We adopted our daughter from China only a few months ago, and she is still learning English. I looked at my wife during the safety presentation and said "She didn't understand any of that." When we approach the guide, however, he had a great solution. Rather then placing our daughter at the edge of the raft like everyone else, he made an exception to the usual rule and allowed her to sit between my wife and me. This allowed us to focus on paddling instead of worrying about our little girl, and let her hold on to both of our arms when things got rough. She loved it--especially when Mommy and Daddy caught more of the splash than she did because she was protected on both sides. We don't live in the Durango area, so I don't know when we'll be back--but when we go, Mountain Waters Rafting will be our first choice to get out on the river... read more

Had a great 1/2 day rafting experience with MWR. Our youngest were too small for the Class 3 rapids, so MWR took care to get the little kids out of the raft and walk them just past that section of the river before they could get back in. Claire was our guide and we had the best experience for our first time white water rafting! We did the 8:30 in the morning time and the weather was beautiful and the water was calm. Came to Durango for my uncles funeral and it's been a very emotional time for me and my family BUT our rafting guide mike ( spicymike ) made the whole experience Amazingly fantastic!!!! I did not plan on doing anything like this why we were here but me and my brother had a amazing time! We did the 4 hour tour highly highly recommend it!! Mike was funny and very informative! And when we stoped for our snacks he even gave me his sweater bc I was cold and soaking wet! The whole experience was more then we could ask for!!! Would do it again tomorrow if I could, A adventure I will never forget! Thanks for making a sad trip into something fun! I called in the morning to see if there was a spot and they were able to fit my family of 4 in! From the moment we arrived the staff was friendly and helpful. Our trip leader (and also our raft guide) Michael was terrific! He made an effort to learn all of our names and told us a couple of stories on the way. What an amazing experience! Mountain Water Rafting I called to get information and right away they exceeded my expectations. They were clear and professional but also really fun and friendly. On the day of, Terrick and Aaron were our guides. Aaron explained safety and how to actually raft which I really appreciated since most of our group hadn't been before ( and I was so nervous). Can't say enough good things about Mountain Waters Rafting. My 14-year-old son Isaiah and I went on two rafting trips in the past week: a short one on the lower Animas River with guide Marcus for a warm-up (my son's first time), then one through Rockwood Canyon a few days later with guide Matt and significant help from guide Jefe for the most beautiful and exhilarating whitewater experience of our lives so far (and I've rafted a lot). Where to begin? What was clear to me throughout was that the guides and office staff love and respect the river, one another, and their work, so that their joy was as contagious as it was spontaneous. The two days of rafting left my son with reverence for the river's power and a thirst for more, to say nothing of the role models the staff were for him and the bonding we experienced as father and son. We haven't stopped talking about the adventure since. We've been given the memory of a lifetime. A few specifics for those interested. When the river level went up enough in one day to compromise our safety on a scheduled inflatable kayak trip, Abby kindly called us from the office to let us know. That's when we opted for the gentle, 1.5-hour raft float down the lower Animas the same morning, ending with a zippy ride through the class 3 whitewater park in Durango, just a five-minute drive from the company office and prep area. In organizing the Rockwood trip over the next few days, the office staff and guides were in touch with me by phone, e-mail, and text. They were always warm and informative. Detailed preparations for the intricate Rockwood trip were flawless and complete, including train and company bus transportation, gear, lunch, etc. Five stars for communication and logistics, I say. The Rockwood trip is expensive...but worth every penny. The railroad ride alone is spectacular. For logistical reasons, our trip was not going to be easy to pull off. After Abby graciously recommended a couple other companies in Durango that raft that stretch of the river, Marcus, Matt, and others worked behind the scenes to make the trip happen with Mountain Waters. We ended up on a Rockwood trip that included some guide training and well-deserved, company-sponsored fun for staff, a sign of a company that cares for its employees. Sharing that day with so many guides and other staff, and watching them share it with each other, gave us a window into the fabulous people working for Mountain Waters at the same time we were seeing and feeling some of the most beautiful country on the earth. Meanwhile, the balance of professionalism, concern for everyone's safety, and a healthy addiction to fun was perfect. Wow. Oh yeah, Marcus and Matt hold degrees in forestry from Fort Lewis College in Durango, which enhanced their guiding and our experience of the river and region. What more can you ask for? I could go on, but you get the picture. Do whatever you can with Mountain Waters. I'd put the Rockwood Canyon trip at the top of your list for next summer, or what's left of this one. read more

Our family of 4 (kids are 10 and 14) did a two hour excursion (the poorly named "economy" trip) with MWR earlier today. It was really great. The guides are fun and know their stuff. The equipment seems to be in good shape and the operation is professional and organized, while still being Colorado casual. (A plus IMHO). We chose the shorter excursion for a variety of reasons and it was just right. Easily could've done more, but it also did not feel too short. Our guide was Aidan.
