Very informative. It's worth the drive, they have five different mining tours they close at 5. After the tour you can go hunt for your gems they give you a hammer and a bucket and let you go to collect some of your rare minerals at $2 a pound. Bobby was our guide. read more

I've been to a lot of mines. They're fun. This one is by far the best! Unfortunately, I feel that it will ruin me for every other mine. Bring your kids! You can go in and touch things. Probably one of the best experiences for a Rockhound/ rock lover like myself. The mine is awesome with many mine tours you can purchase. Scotty with a Y was amazing and very knowledgeable! He along with the other staff were very helpful. There are multiple museums and the owner will answer any questions. They also have jewelry and raw stone for purchase as well. We got to dig in the tailings and find our own amethyst, rose quartz, and turquoise. Best of all, it's DOG FRIENDLY! Great place, awesome people. Took a friend in a wheelchair who hadn't been out in over a year due to covid. It was great and wheelchair friendly. Truth be told, we surprised our friend with that wheelchair and we didn't really know how to push it and we still did alright. Man I have worked in the mining industry for over 30 years and when I took this tour I was kind of skeptical when I got done with the tour I was a believer Scotty with a T and Scotty with a Y this guy is phenomenal he gave us the tour of a lifetime and I would tell you that he has pretty good story to tell and as a geologist hey a lot of it was pretty believable. Space is the last frontier but the last chance mine should be visited by all people on earth thank you for a wonderful time and the gift shop was so much fun, if you like unique and exquisite pieces you should check it out. Truly a wonderful and beautiful place for rock hounding! Been out there the last few years but never had a chance to review this diamond in the roughs of CO! Our family loves going there and the workers are so kind and the guides so very fun! Loved the chipmunks and birds around the mine too. A special moment there was when I admired a lovely pendant in the gift shop all day that was quite out of our price range but it was gorgeous. I noticed the pendant disappeared and thought for sure someone had bought it. My husband had bought another lovely silver piece for me and the owner had secretly given the pendant as a gift to my brother in law and was told they loved to do this kind of thing every now and then for "special people." I cried tears of joy when I opened the box. It was significant to me in a way the owners will never know and a reminder that "kindness comes back around" from time to time in this life. I wear it allot and smile every time I wear my "kindness turquoise" pendant. We will return for sure to this wonderful getaway! read more

People talk bad about the little talk at the beginning but it's pretty nice historic speech plus it counts as a safety meeting discussion where u can go and where u can't but i loved every minute of it so did most of my group which was family first time walking in an ancient volcano once in a lifetime thing and way better than the mine in creede make sure and get a souvenir though it is ran off of donations some people say they pressure u into donations but that wasn't my experience at all worth going read more

We have visited the Last Chance Mine a few years ago, and we were impressed with all the improvements! We took the 45 minute tour lead by Scotty, and he made the tour so much fun and educational. He even played his flute to show how good the acoustics were in the mine tunnels. We also enjoyed seeing the museum, jewelry shop, rocks from all over the world, and we got to find mine through all the rocks tilings. We found amethyst and got to keep all we want for only $2 a pound. If you are around the Creede area, it's a must see. It's fun for all ages. read more

A genuine Colorado experience. The staff was friendly and full of information (more on them in a few), but driving all the way up the loop felt like we happened to stumble upon a secret. The integrity of the mine's fascinating history was well preserved and the atmosphere was exciting and not touristy - one could easily imagine his or her self in their own Western fantasy just by looking around. Staff we interacted with was Brandy, the owner's daughter, Ken, his son in law, so I assume the business is staying within the family which is great, because they are doing an excellent job - loads of energy and genuine enthusiasm as the greeted and interacted with each visitor. We did the mine tour with Ken and it was worth every penny of the $15/ea. He was hilarious and knew what he was doing and stepping into the Mine was stepping into a remarkable piece of American history. Note: wear closed toe shoes if you want to "rockhound"! A little girl found a chunk of silver while we were there! And eat your meal in Creede and bring snacks for kiddos. I didn't see food for purchase. read more

The Last Chance Mine is NOT in the town of Creede on Main Street. It is high on a mountain side. (It might end up on Main Street if it fell down the cliff ;-) The address is 504 Forest Service Road 801 Creede, CO 81130. Getting there is another story, but it is well worth the trip for rock enthusiasts. Where else can you learn about mining and actually work mine tailings for amethyst, turquoise, silver ore, and other rocks, gems, and minerals? Whatever you find is 2 bucks a pound. (If you find gold, don't tell Jack or Karen. Tell me instead, & I'll meet you there!) BTW, the approach may look like you need 4-wheel drive, but my wife and I drove it in a Prius ... ver-r-ry careful-l-ly. read more

We have been to Creede several times and always visit The Last Chance mine. In the past it has been welcoming and a fun place to visit. It's not on Main St, it's a bit of a drive to get to it, but it's a beautiful drive with great scenery. This time we visited, the staff (or volunteers) were rude and pushy. They insisted that you listen to the spiel about the mine, which is fine- but we've heard it several times. They also push the donation issue. Every year we've come, they say that this will be the year that the mine will be open to visitors, it's not. There aren't pictures or anything to show the actual progress of the mine. In the past, we've been invited to hang out on their patio that overlooks a gorgeous valley, but not this time. No one spoke to us after the initial speech about donating. We've typically allowed our son to purchase rocks or something small to provide a donation. A group that showed up after us had wondered off from the speech (it's not long- maybe 5 minutes) and a guy approached them and told them they needed to stay for entire talk. The lady responded that she was local and visited often, therefore she had heard the speech and she just wanted to look around. He told her that she wasn't local enough and she needed to hear it again. We couldn't believe how awful it was. read more

Great place to visit! The drive to the mine,via Bachelor's Loop, goes past a number of historical mines and magnificent scenery.. The Last Chance Mine brings you back to the days of old. Jack has such pride in the work he has taken to restore the mine and preserve it for historical value. People are able to search through the mine tailings to find wonderful mineral specimens at a reasonable price. We just had the nicest afternoon at Last Chance. It was our first visit and we can't wait to go back. We had a great time rockhounding (they issue you safety glasses, a hammer, and a bucket and then afterward identify everything you found, like a geology class!) and then went on the tour which is really, really informative and funny. The tour is very level and safe, (might be accessible) I'm not a huge fan of mine tours but this one was perfect. My kids loved every minute and came home with some nice amethysts!
