The trash in the bathroom cabinet
    Edgar C.

It was four of us, and two dogs driving into town. We got in late, sometime after midnight, so needless to say we were exhausted from a long trip. The room was listed for $61/night... I got charged $8/person for two additional people AND $8/dog. Which after 16hrs of driving I thought fine just give me my room key and let us get some sleep. The room was dirty there was trash in the bathroom, the carpet was filthy, and the towels were raggedy. Not worth the $90+ we spent to stay one night in this nasty motel. Bunch of crooks!

I'm giving these folks five stars because they're experts at milking cows. And they really know…read morewho the cows are. I wanted to make a reservation with them and all of the online sites had the rate at about $93/night. When I called though they told me the rate was $97/night. So I figured I wait until it was closer to the time I was going to travel. As I waited the rate kept going up and up and up, to the point where it was about $110/night. And then I figured, the hell with them I'll find another place. Yreka is about 35 to 40 miles from Ashland, Oregon and I found a hotel, at least equally as good for the same night in Ashland for at least $20 less (more if you include the lack of taxes) and only $3 more than the price they first quoted. And Ashland is a nicer town with more amenities than Yreka. In addition, gasoline is cheaper in Ashland (or nearby) if you need to fill up (I did). I was traveling well over 300 miles that day and the extra 40 to 45 minutes from Ashland versus Yreka wasn't much of a big deal. But particularly because when I called them they were insistent on charging me more than the online rate I stayed in an equally nice place and in a nicer town. So these folks can continue to milk the ignorant cows without really knowing who their competition is. I might have dropped off some sand so they can pound on it, but I was passing through and really didn't want to stop. Mooo.

My wife, step-son, and I stayed here last Friday and it was a complete and utter disappointment from the moment we arrived. We were placed in a separate building from the main hotel -- a building that was actively under construction, and not organized, professional construction. It looked like the owner hired a bunch of kids to do the work. Tools scattered around, drop cloths in the hallways, construction equipment and garbage strewn throughout the building, and a dumpster partially blocking the entrance that we had to walk around just to get to our room. Nobody warned us about any of this at booking or check-in. The neglect extended to the grounds. The small grassy play area had overflowing garbage cans and litter all over the ground, and a homeless person was lying in it. Not exactly the family-friendly environment you expect from a Best Western. The room itself clearly hadn't been properly cleaned. A candy bar wrapper under the bed. Food crumbs on the couch. Black dirt or mold pressed into the shower grout. Insects in the bedroom. Even the toilet paper roll was nearly spent -- housekeeping apparently couldn't be bothered to replace it. For roughly $250 a night, this is inexcusable. We paid full price for a dirty room in a neglected property that was, in effect, a construction site. I felt genuinely ripped off. If management insists on renting rooms mid-renovation, they should discount them heavily and disclose the conditions upfront -- and at minimum, the rooms should be clean. Save your money and stay elsewhere until the construction is done and management starts caring again.

From my very first stay as a brand new rewards member, and 99.99% of the time thereafter, I have been greeted with a "Thank you for being a _________ level rewards member." I always take the time to remark to staff how amazed I am at the consistency of that small gesture. I'm now at the top tier (after four years of patronage) and it is still consistent. I thanked the person for the appreciation and was gifted a little Valentine's Day goodie bag. It had candy in it, sour candy which I am particularly fond of. This location is fairly new or recently renovated - oddly enough the toilet seat was one item showing wear. But carpet, decor, tile, all looked newer. In the dining area, they have the Costa Coffee automatic brewing machines. Those are fairly new addition in some of the properties and it really ups the coffee quality. Yreka also employed one of my favorite condiments, half and half in an insulated pitcher. I don't expect this at small town properties. It is pretty common in Washington and Oregon, where the populace takes their coffee more seriously. So, that was an especially pleasant discovery in the morning. The room was an upgrade to a suite (thank you!) and spacious. Though not a suite in the traditional sense. I didn't really care. It just had a love seat or small couch and coffee table in the room. I had time for breakfast, unfortunately bacon was not offered. So, I selected scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy. It was okay. The biscuits were moist, the gravy lukewarm (not a huge fan of sausage gravy) and the fake eggs (I'm sure made from some packaged eggs.) were edible. But the coffee was good, even better with the fresh half and half. All HIEs have a great spread for their complimentary breakfast. Usually something for everyone. Pancake machine, warm cinnamon rolls, cereals, some form of eggs, and a breakfast meat or two, fruit, yogurt, juices etc. If you are ever in Yreka, consider the Holiday Inn Express. We had booked a room about a month in advance while planning our road trip from Seattle back to Sacramento. Unfortunately, our plans changed during the trip, and we needed to get home much earlier than expected. According to the reservation policy, we were well past the free cancellation deadline, and I completely understood that. We contacted the property only a couple of hours before we would have arrived, fully expecting to be charged for the first night's stay. After all, those were the terms I had agreed to when making the reservation. Instead, the staff listened to our situation and canceled the reservation without any penalty. They absolutely didn't have to do that, and I truly appreciated the understanding and kindness they showed to someone who had never even stayed at their property before. Small gestures like this say a lot about how a business treats people. If this is the level of care they show to someone who couldn't even make it to the hotel, I can only imagine how well they take care of their actual guests. Thank you for your understanding and for treating us with such kindness. If we're in the area again, this will definitely be one of the first places we consider staying.

I've read good reviews of this place and decided to give Super 8 a chance. You get what you paid for and trust me this place is not good enough for a penny. I booked at Super 8 in Yreka for one night, but when I arrived to check in. The older blonde lady at the front desk told me that i had booked for two nights which was not true. So I asked to speak to the manager. She brought me a guy that was dressed in musty gym clothes and said, "this is the manager. Well he's not the manager but he's like the manager right now.". This man had the meanest attitude I've ever encountered. He kept repeating the "policy" of the hotel. He would cut me off mid-sentence which is a huge pet peeve of mine. I told him that I listened to you now it's time for you to listen to me. I explained that I had not booked 2 nights, I presented my Expedia app and it showed that I had booked for one. I was charged $256. He aggressively told me that he would not give me a refund because of the ridiculous policy. I grew exhausted of talking to him so I left. He followed me outside and kept running his mouth about how he's right and I'm wrong. I do not recommend this hotel especially if you're traveling with kids.

The lights were UNPLUGGED in the room when we entered. The A/C was set to 60ºF so I had to heat the room up. The smell of cleaning fluid in the room was repulsive. There was no luggage rack to put one's suitcase on. The closet mirror is cracked. The people hanging out in front of the place seemed like they were sex workers? mentally ill? A.M. addendum to my initial post: I stayed in Room 220 which is close to the large waste container which is emptied by a truck in the early a.m. Also, the bathroom did NOT have an exhaust fan. Also, the toilet didn't flush in the morning. And lastly, although I have financially and legally supported the homeless, it *seems* that this location does house homeless folks, and sadly, many homeless are depressed so that when having the free breakfast we paying customers partake of, it involves experiencing their "dark cloud" hanging over their heads as they come in to partake also.

Prepared by: Bret Ames…read more Location of Incident: Motel 6, Yreka, California To Whom It May Concern: I am writing this formal statement to document the severe damage caused to my family's personal belongings by a sewage/septic water flood that occurred while we were staying at the Motel 6 in Yreka, California. We were residing there as temporary housing with my family, including a young child and an infant. A significant volume of septic/sewage water flooded the area of our room/unit due to what appears to be a failure or negligence in the motel's plumbing or septic system. The contaminated water soaked and destroyed a substantial portion of our family's belongings. Items lost or rendered unusable include clothing, baby items, personal effects, and other essential household goods. The total estimated value of the destroyed property exceeds $3,000. Because of the biohazard nature of the sewage water, many of these items (also sentimental and irreplaceable items)had to be discarded for health and safety reasons and could not be salvaged or cleaned. Following the incident, Motel 6 staff and management failed to take reasonable steps to assist us. They refused to properly document the damage, declined to provide meaningful accommodation or temporary relief, and have taken no substantive action to help us obtain compensation for the losses that resulted directly from their negligence in maintaining the property's plumbing and or septic systems. In addition, the hotel manager harassed me and accused me of threatening them. After management had set up a solution to address the situation, they abruptly withdrew that solution and asked us to leave the property for reasons unrelated to our presence or conduct. We also contacted Motel 6 corporate (G6). Once the corporate representative switched lines and spoke with the local manager, the manager stated that we had already been taken care of-which was not true. Based on that false information, the corporate worker then refused to provide any further assistance. Furthermore, Motel 6 staff demonstrated prejudice against us because of our participation in the family stabilization program. Staff members referred to us as "welfare people," which contributed to their dismissive and unhelpful treatment of our family throughout this incident. This incident and the subsequent handling of it have placed additional hardship on my family at a time when we were already in temporary housing. The loss of essential items for our child and infant has created both financial strain and practical difficulties. I am requesting that Motel 6 and its parent company formally acknowledge the incident, provide a complete written report of the cause and their response (including the temporary solution that was offered and then withdrawn, the false statement made to corporate, and the discriminatory remarks), and fairly compensate us for the documented property damage and related losses. I am prepared to provide an itemized list of destroyed belongings, photographs (where available), and any other supporting information. I reserve all rights to pursue further remedies, including filing claims with the appropriate consumer protection agencies, insurance carriers, local authorities, and, if necessary, civil legal action for negligence, failure to maintain safe premises, and discriminatory treatment. Respectfully submitted, Bret Ames Yreka, California (530) 598-3071 bretallenlevonanthonyames@gmail.com
