Being on the boat for less than an hour I caught my first fish. Tom knew exactly where to go to catch specific species and knew how to do it AND teach it quickly. He was so obviously experienced it was a joy to be one of his clients and learn from him! He also rowed a boat up and downstream the river like an Olympian, lol. He knew so much about all the fish, birds, bugs, too. He was super nice and gave me the guidance I needed to catch what I wanted and was endlessly patient, kind, and encouraging even with all the mistakes I made. As a woman who has been on other charters where the guides treated me inferior to men, I had the opposite experience here. Tom went above and beyond to make sure I had an exceptional time. We will be booking again.

It should be noted I rarely leave reviews about a business unless I've experienced exceptional…read moreservice or extremely horrible service. With that being said, I can't rave enough about the Reel Anglers Fly Shop and the owner Tom. I first met Tom a few months ago. I called his shop and was looking for a guide for the Lower Yuba River. I had been there several times and couldn't figure out how to fish it. I looked online and saw several other guides, but I chose Tom because of past reviews, his knowledge/experience with the River and the conversation I had with him over the phone. We met on the River. Tom was on time (ready to go) and eager. I brought a friend with me who had zero fly fishing experience. Tom spend about 15 minutes with him and showed him the basics. His teaching method was perfect. He didn't overload my friend with a ton of information, but gave him enough to grasp the concept and build on it. We fished the full day. Tom provided an excellent guide service 2nd to none. He told us where to cast (provided additional instruction to my friend about casting), told us to mend the line when needed, put new flies on when needed, dressed the flies, and he rowed his butt off. My buddy and I had plenty of opportunities to hook up but we missed them. No fault to Tom. Needless to say we did not get skunked! We had an awesome time on the water and like I said the service that was provided was top notch! The review doesn't end there. Due to my experience with Tom, I thought I would visit his fly shop in Grass Valley - it's about 20-30 minutes away from where I normally fish. His shop was well organized and had all of the gear you would need for fly fishing. I've mentioned this before, but Tom's knowledge really shines. I asked him what flies he recommended. He picked out a few - that day I got several to the net on the flies he picked out. Lately, I haven't had the chance to go to the fly shop so I made (2) phone orders with him. Here's why I'm writing this review - there was a mix up on getting my order shipped by Tom's local shipping business. My package was sent to Tom's fly shop instead of my home. I called Tom on Thursday of this week and told him I didn't receive my package and that I was heading to the River on Friday. Tom told me he would meet me there, give me flies that I would need, and at no charge. I couldn't believe it - because of that I will be a customer for life! I'm looking forward to the next drift trip with Tom! Thanks again!!

Rather than directly and clearly answer my question about my options for repair, she said "you got 8 years out of the tent, that's pretty good" And when I said "is that how long you expect your tents to last?" she said "I was putting words in her mouth". What else does that mean coming from a company representative? Why not just say something straightforward like, "no, we really do want our tents to last a lifetime, I'm sorry it's malfunctioning." Henry, the owner, didn't give my questions any real thought or reply. Really annoying to get no clear answers when trying to diagnose the problem. In contrast I had to make another call about completely different company about malfunctioning equipment and got clear answers, a kind tone of voice, and helpful suggestions and options. Like night and day. Tarp tent really needs to clean up their customer service. I won't be buying from them again.

I had recently a very negative experience with Tarptent. I purchased a tent recently from…read moreTarptent and paid for expedited shipping and wrote in the note that I needed it ASAP. I also added the extra poles for free standing. This is near the winter, I live in a northern state, and I can only seam seal it myself indoors. So I paid for 3-day shipping which was 30 dollars. In fairness, Tarptent did give an upgrade to two days, however I still paid 30 dollars keep in mind for a fast delivery. I ordered a seam sealer and was ready to seam seal it when it arrived so I could head out with friends. When it arrived, I was instantly disappointed as I set out the tent getting ready to apply the seam seal. Realizing they forgot to pack a freestanding pole... Now I am out the 30 dollars for the fast shipping, and this is not refunded to me even though they are the ones who made the fast shipping worthless because TarpTent forgot to pack a pole. I packed and shipped it back with a required signature as I didn't need any more issues. Another 40 dollars gone. Did I ever get an apology for their mistake? No, only when I fished it out by asking if they seen why I was returning it? The response was a blow-off apology of "We are sorry for your experience." The end. Not one apology for their mistake, or if there is anything they could do. It would of been nice to at least refund the shipping to me since this was THEIR screw up. So I am out now 70 dollars total in shipping, and a waste of time dealing with this company. I would if you are interested in their products, search around for a different company. If this seems like customer service that you would like, and to be out 70 dollars, no apology, no message saying sorry for their mess up, no apology for my time wasted, no apology for 70 dollars gone, no apology for not packing the most critical thing for a tent... 1 of the two poles REQUIRED for freestanding, then sure, go with this company. I certainly would never spend a dime here, nor will I ever advertise for them as a good company. To waste more time to leave a negative review is even more frustrating, but how this company's customer service handled this was 0 out of 10. I ended up buying another tent from a different store, and have been happy. Thank you for the time to read this, I hope you have a great day, and please consider this experience of mine if you are thinking about buying from Tarptent.

Or maybe that's a good thing They have so many lures to choose from I could get lost looking at them, but love that for me for fishing. I love that they have a variety of fishing poles and they also have cookware there. If you did not know that if you need to go camping this is a great place to go value wise. I would say great prices great material clothes wise. I have sweatshirts that I've had for over 3+ years and they've never got ruined in the washer and dryer and I got these ones on sale for like five to $10. I've been waiting for that sale again. I think I miss it. However, I must say hands-down they have the best quality clothes. They have a lot of options of stuff. If you know somebody that's having a baby.
