I'm not a typical JCPenney customer, and I'm not a typical black Friday shopper. But, a family member wanted to stop in so here we go. Lol I was amazed with how clean and well organized this location was! The one where we live went out of business a number of years ago, but when it was in business it was always dark, dingy, and kind of a mess. This location seems to be really well maintained. The staff was friendly and helpful, the lines were kept to a minimum and the shelves were all well stocked and organized which is amazing for the day after Thanksgiving. Today i had to teturn some speakers to JC Penneys today. They are located on Freeman lane in Grass Valley. They open at 11am (check their hours because they vary). I got there right at 11am and was greeted by a friendly lady in the returns department. The return was easy and the credit went back to the card. I did not have alot of time so i perused the store and saw some clothes that had been deeply discounted ( near the shoe area). They had a nice display of clothes and shoes. The perfume and makeup section looked really nice as well. They had great discounts on luggage and backpacks. To the left of the store there is a separate JC Pennys building that carries mens clothes and childrens apparel. In that building they also carry some appliances. Not happy that for over a month I ordered a ring for Xmas for my wife and every time I ask for ring it says delay delay and no one helped and they lost ring in transit and they never tell me nothing and they cancelled my order with out notice of it. Don't buy jewelry here read more

Ok I've been looking for women's jeans hi and lo. I just wanted nice fitting bootcut jeans and I found 2 pairs of exactly what I was looking for at JC Penney. Grass Valley CA has their very own JCPENNEY. How cool is that?!? Very. I tend to on occasion drop in when I'm in town to check out the current inventory. I like shopping here. The shop is located in a strip mall. But JCPENNEY has two separate shop fronts.... one for menswear, home items, and children's clothing and the for womenswear, accessories, and fine jewelry including the pick up online orders section. There are not a lot of sales associates in either shop. So getting immediate attention on the sales floor can be difficult. This JCPENNEY is a much smaller than the Roseville Galleria and Sacramento Arden Fair Mall stores. But its great overall to have a JCPENNEY in Grass Valley vs not. read more

Penneys ask us how they are doing...this has been going on for years.....We tell them the clothing in the Grass Valley Ca. store is horrible....friends and family has also stated this, read these reviews same thing, I wonder WHY they ask us how they are doing, we tell them and just keep buying the same cheaply made expensive clothes...We go to Sac or shop on line, you should try AMAZON....I would LOVE to see J.C. It really stinks that this is the largest/most affordable option we have in grass valley besides Kmart. On my most recent visit, there was one cashier in the entire store working the register alone while customers stacked up. She handled it really well, poor girl, as people tapped their feet impatiently. She kept her cool. But management obviously needs a lot of work on their staffing. In addition, the store is often filthy and unkempt. I hope they get their act together because it would be a shame for Grass Valley to lose their best option. read more

I like our JCPENNYS. I think for what this town has to offer at the moment for clothes, this is the more affordable place outside of the thrift stores. In a town full of fancy boutiques/shops; there aren't many places to go for affordable clothes. So when it's Black Friday or they switch out inventory for the year and put brands like ANA on clearance, it's pretty good. It's not cheap, don't go in there expecting that clothes will be 10-15 average...it's still pricy but compared to other shops around this Is the cheapest. Especially with Kmart now gone. But I do like the Sephora. It's nice to have a place to get fancier brands, and sometimes they have really good clearance sales on makeup brushes. The mens section also has pillows, towels, bath mats, and a selection of home goods - which is something we don't have in grass valley! It's amazing how hard it is to buy basic home goods without driving all the way to auburn. But anyway, we will see what happens to JCPENNYS when the new target takes KMARTs place in 2023-2024. I know target will beat their prices, and will hit the ball out of the park with home goods, electronics, clothes, ECT. But for now it's a solid little store and I'm glad we have somewhere like this to shop. read more

Many problems with the sale advertisements! On a display of Nike shirts only 2 shirts on the top shelve are on clearance. The signage says Nike shirts on clearance for 40% off plus an additional 50% off of an additional shirt of you buy more then one. According to the sales associates only the top two shirts are included on that sale. The others are full price. Complaint sent into corporate. Very misleading causing frustration and longer wait times for customers behind in line. read more

Disappointing experience. Women's section, Saturday June 15 about 11 am. There were 2 cashiers, one taking a long time with a customer. Seven customers waiting in line. Manager is restocking some type of bottles. I asked her to open another cashier, and manger in a dismissive tone, says I'll be right with you. She continues to stock items. She did call for assistants and two clerks came to fill all the cash register positions, but the manager was rude and dismissive. JC Penny, I want you to survive, and I know you are barely hanging on, but your manager has a crappy attitude. Why is stocking bottles more important than getting more cashiers to ring up items? Why, when asked are you dismissive towards your customers? Manager then disappeared, and when I asked the cashier to get her she would not come to the counter, stating she was with a customer. Funny, because the cashier said she was in the back. Grass Valley has limited shopping options. When treated like this, I am moving my shopping to Amazon, or waiting to drive to Auburn or Sacramento. read more

Another store outrageously over priced very rude employees who work there very unfriendly staff there. They would not help you out. I will never step foot back in that joke store. Thought they were going out of business too. Over priced clothes and over priced makeup too gross I would not even pay the prices there. This particular location has four fitting rooms, but routinely closes two of them. I ended up changing in the restroom because I was so tired of waiting for a room. I asked a staff member why they don't open the other dressing rooms, and she informed me that they have closed the rooms to minimize theft. This location really needs to staff up and improve their customer service, or at the very least open all dressing rooms they have available. The store also needs to order more size small, as almost all the sizes they have left are large or extra large. read more

This store is always incredibly hot inside whether it's summer or winter. When department stores are ridiculously hot that makes me and most people get in and get out quickly which means less buying. read more

I never thought that JC Penney's was particularly special until I went shopping for some new jeans, shirts, and shorts in mid-August. After cavorting through their candy-store-esque selection of clothes, I stood in line to check out. The cashier was extremely polite and friendly, thanking me for my patience even after waiting a mere minute or so. He affirmed many of my choices, commenting, "I've been waiting for someone to buy one of these shirts! I love these." When he noticed a mild rip in the waist of some jeans, he invited me to select a different pair. Most significantly, he asked very respectfully, "Do you want me to keep you updated on your total today?" Turns out, a few of the jeans were pricier than I thought, and he was considerate enough to gently, non-embarassingly alert me to the imminent danger of spending $300 on pants. He gave me the option to remove some items from my order if I wanted (which I did!) and shared an insider secret about an affordable alternative: thrift stores. To cap it all off he asked if I wanted to apply a $25 coupon, making it sound like this was an integral part of shopping at JCP. I was in such grateful disbelief that, after some probing, I found out he was "technically not supposed to do this" but knew I was making a large purchase and wanted to be awesome, I guess. So that was it: I committed myself to writing a positive review. Hopefully that young cashier will come across this message someday and recognize himself as the person I'm talking about. Here in Jan, some good sales/clearance items. But this store in Grass Valley, is separated into two stores in this shopping center. Ladies and home items in one store, and Mens and childrens in the other store. Who thought of this? The employees are nice and helpful. Marissa in the shoe dept was great. She offered alternatives, and sold me on more shoes because she told me about a coupon they had available. Two of the three pair of shoes I wanted weren't in stock in my size, so she offered to order them (catalog) with free shipping to my home (which I did). I was looking for a deal, and even without the coupon I got some great prices on shoes. I had just come from Payless Shoes, and was able to get better quality shoes for less money at JC Penney's!!! So i changed my 1 star to a 2 star only because at the last minute i finally got some decent customer service , but before that we had horrible customer service. We went to check out and were next in line, then the lady decided to change registers when it was our turn and we were forced to go to the other register where we were put in the back of a line of about ten customers. It was absolutely unexceptable. Even other customers were looking at the sales associate like she was crazy. So my mom asked me to go to the jewelry counter and ask if we could check out there. I asked the woman who wasn't even talking to another customer and she snapped at me very RUDELY and said she was with a customer. I said ok and asked if i could get in line behind her customer she yelled at me and said yes when I'm done with my customer. And i mean seriously yelled then rolled her eyes at me. . So i went back over and waited with my friend while my Mom was still in line. The original sales associate finally turned around and asked if we had a problem (she must have heard us complaining when we originally got screwed over) i said yes and told her what she had done and so she told me to go get my mom and she would ring her up next. Then she was apologetic. So i thank her for the last stroke of decent customer service but i was still pretty jaded from the whole experience. JCpenneys should ensure to hire friendly people from now on. read more

I LOVE this JCPenney store! The associates are always very nice and helpful and I always find such great sales and deals. I'm not sure why it's not rated even better than it is because it's a great store. I do, however, wish the home section was larger than it is... but otherwise, I can't complain. I love going and browsing, even if I don't buy anything. I always find affordable and high quality items here - I was able to get a Van Heusen sweater for my husband for 80% off, it ended up being $9... I mean, really, you CANNOT beat that! I actually like the fact that it's split up into the two little separate stores - it's way less confusing than going to a giant mall and trying to figure out which floor has what department if you ask me. read more

This store including management team, have very rude employees. I don't shop here, the sale associates and register people are unhelpful, lazy, and rude. Customer service is not what they embrace here, they go out of there way to avoid working. I avoid this store if at all possible, I'll go to Roseville for the sales. I encourage you to spend your money elsewhere. read more
