It was my wife's birthday weekend and our first visit to Nevada City, as soon as we walked into the store I sensed the quality of everything in the store , from leather shoes to hats and belts....... i was sure we would find something nice to take home and definitely hoped to find something for my wife's birthday! I ended up buying a really nice leather cowboy hat and I bought my wife some nice leather boots. The staff was very friendly and helpful , and we both felt like the quality of the everything in the store made the prices seem fair and reasonable , so we were more than happy with our purchases. Fur Traders is Nevada City's iconic luxury trading post. It is a one of a kind shop! Right when I walked in, I was awed by the decor vibe and merchandise. The shop is beautifully designed and still shows its gorgeous brick wall bones. The merchandise is displayed in a funky modern way but still having a relaxed welcoming vibe. The sell women and men's clothes, shoes, leather good, hats, bags and purses, sunglasses. socks, and jewelry are one of a kind standout statement pieces. Feminine boho chic and menswear modern western. Initially I was thinking the prices might be sky high; but after looking at the price tags, they really are not especially in comparison to department store and other chain retailers The woman working there when I visited was nothing but welcoming and engaging. First off, am saddened that I see one star reviews. I do see that many of those one stars were several years ago. We have been visiting Nevada City over the last year and it's such a great hidden jewel. Walking down the historic section of town, you immediately feel the charm. Many shops and Fur Traders is on the strip. We happened to walk in and look at the leathers. A cute shop with many items. We were greeted right away. The jackets had many selections and styles. We weren't shopping for leathers that day, but came out with some really nice jackets. Later we returned to Nevada City to take a few photos to share. You really want to visit to get a feel of the items--especially the smell of leathers and suede. There's so much that the community has to offer so make it a day. Tip: The National Exchange & Lola's are our favorite place to hangout for food and drinks. read more

The older woman (crappy Carol) who was assisting my mother in law, wife and myself was horrible. We were trying different shoes for potential Christmas gifts and when we asked for sizing purposes she questioned why we were asking for her help and made it seem as if that if we weren't purchase something it wasn't worth her time. The fact that it's the giving season and the snarky comments she gave me and my family is astonishing. Get out of the service industry if that's going to impact your day that much. Overall we were there to spend money on quality gifts for our family because the store itself is great, but whatever her name is was awful. Wow! Upscale foot ware, all styles! Gorgeous store. I have always wanted rain boots. Last December Fur Traders had a gorgeous pair I just had to have. Horrible experience with this seller. The boots were actually ordered on Amazon, and arrived late. Nevertheless they arrived. My wife tried them on, and they seemed to fit fine. (she has two other similar style boots from the same manufacturer in the same size). She was happy with the new boots, she loves the brand, style and the fit out of the box was perfect. The next day she wore them to a wedding, and the boots stretched out so big that she can no longer wear them. In our opinion that would be defective. We contacted the seller and talked about what happened. We initiated a return on Amazon and since the seller is actually local, we were directed by the store manager to just bring them in for a refund. My wife took the boots in as requested, an employee looked them over good and called the manager who was busy in the back of the store somewhere. The employee accepted the boots, apologized for the problem. A couple days later we get a really nasty condescending email from the manager, which made us feel shamed for returning boots that had worn one time. The email was concerning to us, so we inquired with Amazon customer service. Based on the email from the seller, we weren't sure if we would be issued a refund, although they accepted our return and had the boots in their possession. Amazon elevated this through their A to Z Guarantee. A couple days later we received a partial refund, (minus about 25% for a restocking fee). Then a couple more days later we received the balance of the refund. Even though the return/refund was finally successful, we felt I needed to respond to the manager's unprofessional email to us. I just explained again how it all happened, and how their email made us feel. This morning we received yet another horrible email from the seller. I am honestly shocked at how we (the customer) were treated via email from this seller. It's a first for us. They are a small business with a storefront right here in our little town, and we do our best to support local businesses. We have made several purchases in this store, and always take visiting friends and family in there. We will no longer recommend them or make any future purchases from their storefront or online. I hate to post bad feedback, but in this case I feel like I had to. This was a horrible customer experience. read more

August 14, 2022 This is review number, Maestro or Maestra a few notes on the piano if you please, Forty Five, of this place. It is walkable from the National Exchange Hotel. While we were hiking then walking town Nevada City, I look in. I say to the person, "Look, they have green socks." There were actually many colors of same brand of sock. I know the other person the favorite color is green, so I mention that. We go inside. There are also hiking shoes. There are stuffed animal exhibits, I touch the one that looks like Musk Ox. The person buys one pair of the green socks. Was supposed be nineteen dollars before tax. It rung up at thirteen dollar seventy cents with tax. That Musk Ox exhibit. The lady, Elizabeth, short yellow hair. She asked how I knew it is Musk Ox. Something of most people not know what it is. Me, "I been writing to equivalent of Salvation Army in North Pole, Alaska. They always send post cards of Alaska animals." The person says to her that I do lots volunteering at Salvation Army. It was Elizabeth that helped us that night. They don't even deserve 1 Star. The sales associates here are not only desperate for a sale, but they made me feel so uncomfortable browsing around as they were watching my every move. Some of the merchandise is tasteful but their judgmental and out of line/ racist behavior is tasteless, outdated and needs to be put to rest. I'll shop elsewhere for my leather goods and I recommend you do the same. You'll find better prices for same products online, especially with their shoe collections. Avoid them on Amazon too, you will regret it if you need to exchange or return. read more

It's so cramped in here you aren't even sure what you are looking at! I don't love the idea of buying fur in general unless it's vintage fur. But I was thinking about getting a hat or gloves for an upcoming trip. However coming in here was so stressful. Not only was everyone pretty rude and not helpful, the store was pure chaos! The jackets were stacked rows deep with no order. The boots were strewn about the floor and the gloves were just in one giant pile on the counter. I left within a few minutes and left empty handed. We live out of the area but attend the Dickens fairs every xmas. We purchased a leather fur hat for a xmas present for my son. It was way too large so kept the receipt and tried to exchange it for a size smaller last week and no way would this small very nice store offer even an exchange ! 30 days is their policy. I was disappointed and we will not go back into that store again ! Small businesses should be friendly and not so tight in the policies they have! This place has some really nice unique clothes and shoes, and the attraction to support local business is there. Went in on Victorian Christmas about 10 days before Christmas and my husband saw shoes that he fell in love with. After he walked out, I told the woman there that I would be calling the next day to order them. Her name was "Wendy" I think she was the owner or manager. The next day I placed my order, and she told me that she would be going to the post office that day to drop them in the mail and they would be there in plenty of time for Christmas. So Christmas came and went and the shoes never showed up. That was my big present for my husband and I felt terrible. I play several calls to fur traders asking for her without success. Finally my mother-in-law called and asked where the shoes were and they told her that they just got the size in and we would be sending them that day. So basically, Wendy lied to me, she had the shoes in her hand that I was going to order, the next day, and when I called the next day, she told me they were in her hand and going to the post office. These people are so rude and really odd. I've attempted going into this store twice. The first time with a girlfriend, the sales lady was extremely aggressive, she literally grabbed my friend by the wrist and led/drug her to the back of the store to show us their other products. It was overly aggressive and intrusive, she would not stop talking at us and wouldn't even give an inch or personal space to shop peacefully. if I need help I will let you know, please don't touch me. The second time I attempted to come in to get a Christmas gift for my mom, went to make a call to activate my new debit card the saleswoman walks up and lets me know that all calls made in the store are recorded. Which is extremely strange and concerning. I won't be going back for a third time. If you're looking for rude, pushy, intrusive and just strange treatment I would recommend this shop. If I could leave a "0" review I would. This seller is selling on Amazon and all I can say is DO NOT BUY FROM THIS SELLER! They scam you, and have 0 customer service. Long story short: I purchased UGG slippers via Amazon from this seller and they turned out to be defective. Not usually a big deal with a major brand, but with this seller it has been a nightmare. Slippers on day 12 had glue exposed on the inside of the slipper causing the glue to stick to the bare foot. I returned the slippers as "defective". FUR TRADERS HAS HELD THE RETURNED SLIPPERS AND 109.00 (Purchase Price) WITHOUT ANY REFUND OR CONSIDERATION OF CUSTOMER SERVICE. This Company is the Worst of the Worst. Do NOT spend tour hard earned money here. If you have a problem they will not stand buy the product. If you choose to roll the dice, you WILL lose with Fur Traders. My daughter wanted to buy something from this store with her own money, and found the scrap pieces of fur and leather near the door (assuming put there for potential low-risk theft). She found a small rabbit piece and was so excited to buy it herself. The woman running the cash register - who I think must be an owner or manager? - was so horrible to her. She tossed the bag and threw her change on the counter. All without eye contact, a kind word or smile. Meanwhile, my teenage son, who was browsing while this was happening, was physically blocked by another employee from entering the back area of the sales floor. bought a 400$ sheepskin jacket back in may and the stitching randomly came undone under the arm area of the jacket. the associates at the business werent very receptive when we called and didnt even want to offer any recommendations to where i could go to fix the stitching... i guess i'll just go back to purchasing brand names again since the quality of the sheepskin coats here (at the least) have a lot to be desired. read more

Victorian Christmas my family and I always go here. We have bought some sheep skins from them before. My mom found a hat that would look great on my boyfriend so I had him try it on. Loved it so I took out my phone and started doing a search to see if it's cheaper on Amazon. The sales associate stops looks at me and my boyfriend and says so your talking pictures huuuuhhh? I said I'm scanning it to see if I can find the hat online. She says we'll that's not fair. She keep standing there looking as us being hella disturbing, she wouldn't leave until my boyfriend takes the hat, hands it to her and says we don't want it. She takes it and try to sleekly hide it from us and didn't return the item to its original place. Bought a pair of "Ugg Compatible" Minntonka boots for this winter over Amazon.com. When they arrived, they were lightweight, thin, and substandard workmanship. Sent them back and left feedback about the quality of the item on Amazon's website. Fur Traders sends me this whiny email about how they were made differently, all their other customers liked them, etc., and could I take down that poor feedback I had left. I was showing an old friend around town while he was visiting, and we popped in to Fur Traders because he was looking for a jacket. He found a jacket he liked and inquired about the price. The lady at the register very rudely replied "it's marked." He said that he couldn't find a price tag and she said smugly sneered at him and walked away. It was very rude and unacceptable in my opinion. He probably would have bought thte jacket but because of her attitude she lost a sale and a customer. This is the exact opposite of the kind of friendliness that makes me proud of our little town. I like the shoes I bought there but as everyone says, the customer service stinks. They promise to repair the slippers that are made by them if the seams give out, and supposedly they are repairing mine but it has been five weeks since I took them in and when I called today they still weren't fixed. In any case I will never shop there again because they are also apparently racist in addition to being rude (they put a sign saying "white lives 2" in their window after a racial incident here). I visited the warehouse and Melinda was so wonderful and helpful. The warehouse has a lot of great deals, but you do have to look and try. Great selection of various sizes and styles. I ordered an item online. The very next day I received a phone call from them stating the product I ordered was defective from the manufacturer. They didn't have any more in that size, so unfortunately the order had to be canceled. What great customer service to receive a personal phone call from an internet order. What I noticed in particular about the store is the quality of the product. So while it's not cheap, it's not supposed to be cheap. It's supposed to be luxurious. And it is!
